A yeh rishtey hain pyaar ke guc because the make leads are fucking insaneâŠ.
The first thing in his mind when Abir wakes up is a prayer, please. (Wasnât that messed up)
Please what? Please make sure this day goes well, please stop mom from doing anything, (why did he have to be so scared of his own mom?) please make kunal be cordial (heâs never really asked god much for nanko, cause he would do it all⊠now he was asking him to just make nanko talk to him) please keep mishti happy (wasnât that his job) please keep baba safe (funny, wasnât that his job too) please donât let anything trouble my family (that too was supposed to his job) he didnât know which one of these he was asking for.
But he was asking. So he repeated it.
One simple word.
Please.
Please please PleaseâŠ
PLEASE
He had screamed himself hoarse both in mind and body.
Please donât do this
Please donât let this happen.
How could you do this to meâŠ
Donât you dare⊠Donât you bloody dareâŠ
Youâre supposed to be my partnerâŠ
Youâre supposed to protectâŠ
What did I ever do to deserve thisâŠ
Why?
Abir had been dangerously silent to the point that he was scaring naanu (that poor man, how much more was he supposed to see.) He hadnât moved at all, lips pressed tightly shut, a hand nearly attached to the pristine glass doors, saying nothing, doing nothing⊠just standing there, looking and lookingâŠ
Please
Just
Please
The first one Abir walks up to (thankfully) is his Naanu. He was wary, (and didnât that just break his heart) because of what had happened, what was happening and what was going to happen. (God if only he could ease worries of the man who had been his parent more than the ones who gave birth to him were.)
âWhatâs sup broâ Naanu initiated.
âAap bathaiye, whatâs up broâ Abir indulged.
They both needed this. This sense of normalcy.
âWoh aaj navratri ka theesra din hai na bas wahiâ Naanu continued.
âMain bhi ussi ke thayyari main hoon, aurâŠ.â He paused, âaaj mishti ki family bhi aayegiâ
Nanu nodded sombre. Not because he didnât enjoy Maheshwaris presence or company, but because these says something or the other always seemed to happen with both the families. Especially when they got together.
âAbirâ Naanuâs voicr trembled both out of sheer fear and unshed tears, âAbir yeh sabâŠâ
He trailed off as he hung his head low. (He just wanted to keep him happyâŠ)
Abir wordlessly took him in a hug, (heâd spoken enough for eonsâŠ)
âAbir agar wohâŠâ Naanu once again failed to put words to his thought, terrified it might come true if said out loud , âagar use kuch..â
âKuch nahin hoga use, kuch nahin hogaâ Abir announced vehement.
He was sure that he would survive this and how could that be possible ifâŠ
IfâŠ
No he was unmoved, nothing would happen. He wouldnât let it.
âBhaiâ Ketuâs little whine made him turn away from his mirror, âDekho na yeh atul koâŠâ
His mind was a mile a minute. But in that movement, he gave his unbridled attention to her and Atul who was being dragged in to his room. (He did the same with nanko too, every time, even now, perhaps more than with these two, more than anyone, it was instinct, where did he go so wrong that now nanko rarely even talked to him without clenching his jaw and holding in a million things)
âKya kiya isneâ he asks a small smile playing on his lips, letting him get comforted by the triviality of his little siblings fighting.
âMera straightener churaliya isneâ Ketu complained, ânayi thi mene use bhi nahin kiya tha aur-â
âHaan tho maine use kar liya naâ Atul shrugged.
âPar woh mera thaâ ketu grunted, giving Atul a shove in true fashion of an angry sibling.
Atul too in the same fashion was unperturbed, âjo tera tha woh mera hi tho haiâŠâ
(Heâs heard and seen this more times than he can count, each time kunal was there. Kunal was with him.)
His face fall and they both saw. For a split second their faces too fell. Abir wondered if it was because he was sad or cause they were sad too. Nanko was their brother too. (Yeah but he was only his Nanko)
âBhai waise aapko patha hai yeh aajkal kar kya raha hai?â Ketu seamlessly brought the conversation back.
âHmmâ he nodded eagerly.
âAaj kal main usse kuch bhi pooch thi hoon naâ Ketu said puffing out her cheeks, âtho yeh kaam ka bahana de ke chala jaatha hai..â
Just like his Nanko did, does. (Strange how ketu saw through it in less than a month and abir could do nothing for a whole year.)
This time he didnât let it show.
âAaj koi bahana nahin chalegaâ he said matching their smiles, âaaj hum bas enjoy karenge.â
Ketu was crying, god she was a mess. She cried like she couldnât stop until there werenât any tears left he had always hated when she cried. It hurt like someone was peeling his skin off. But his legs didnât move. Atul had stopped a while ago. Someone had to take care of their sister. So, heâd swallowed his tears and threw his arms around his sister and buried her head in his crook. His eyes were moist. His jaw looked like it hurt. But he held on.
Heâd grown up. (Him too?)
He fell into the chair beside them, trying to soak up any warmth, even ine that hurt like death itself, to soothe his bereaved soul.
A moment passed. Ketki turned and looked at him. Then at Atul who too was staring at him. Then she threw herself into his arms.
AndâŠ.
As he held her for the life of him, neither caring about all the soaking tears and dried blood, Atul finally moved walked over to him and buried his head in his crook.
âAbir sun naâ Maami called. He lifted his head from his breakfast curious to see what she wanted, âBoliye na maamiâŠâ
âWoh Mishti aur uske family aayegi na aajâ Nidhi said as if reading out an instructions list, Abir nodded with a smile. He couldnât wait to see her.
âTho rasam ke kuch aur samaan chahiye thaâŠâ she continued, âI know ki tum busy ho mein Kunal ko bhej deti parâŠâ
His face fell. (But kunal hated mishti.)
âArey maariwaaliâ Mamu flew in as saving grace like always, âkunal ghar pe hain kahan⊠woh tho office main hain⊠dopahar ko aayega.â
Nidhi Maami bit her lip with her familiar guilt. Sometimes what she said hurt, but he knew she was open, they both were, they never lied or meant to hurt other people. He believed so.
They never harboured anything, they were simple people and which is why no one could ever hold any out of place comment against them. (Nanko was the victim most times, yet he always let it go⊠then why)
âAtul ko bhi tho office jaana hain na mamuâ he answered, (he had to answer, he had to be normal, he had to be happy) he turned towards mami, âaap mujhe list de dijiyeâŠâ
They shared a look and she nodded.
His mamu and mami were free people, they never took things too seriously, never harboured anything.
They were simple people and he could always count on them to fizzle out a situation.
Yet today they had collapsed. So much so that they couldnât even go to their kids.
And he couldnât blame them, cause they tried, the few who were left standing when everyone fell. Who stood by him and caught him, made sure he didnât disappear into a vortex.
But now after what happened at the house and what happened here. They deserved this reprieve.
They deserved to sit down and let those tears fall.
What they sawâŠ
What they heardâŠ.
Just a child to themâŠ
To all the elders⊠just a childâŠ
So much more to him.
Jasmeet chachi and Varsha aunty are talking about something when he bumps into them later when itâs evening and everyoneâs gearing up for the night.
âHaye haye chitta bada chikna lagweâ Jasmeet teases, âitni jaldi mein jaa kaha raha hainâŠâ
He ignores her question, âaap bhi kam sexy nahin lag rahi ho katrina chachi..â
This earns him a shove and shake of head from Varshafollowing which theyâre both laughing at a flustered Jasmeet.
Who harrumphs, âready tho hongi na ji⊠humara kuhu ka iss ghar me pehle navratri hainâŠâ
Abir smiles because yes and the entire rajvansh house is excited for it. Lately amidst all that has been going on itâs really Kuhu and Kunal whoâre making the effort to keep the house happy. And heâs happy really, Kunal isnât cold to her anymore (thereâs so many things that happened that are running in his mind but he just canât hold on to them when things are better now, no really) theyâre a unit (so were him and nanko) and heâs happy, really⊠this house needs them (he just wishes he wasnât outside looking in)
âVaise bathaiye naâ he coaxes, âmishti kahan haiâ
Their faces fall just the smallest bit but Varsha still complies, âwoh maa ke saa-â
However she is cut off by Shaurya coming over to them, âarey varsha kahaan ho tum kabse dhund rahan hoon meinâ he then looks at Abir, âsorry abir darasal mujhe kuch kaam haiâŠâ
Abir nodded with a small smile.
Abir swallowed tears with a shake of his head.
Shaurya uncle was drained, life doesnât give you enough instances to see your parents break down and get used to it.
No matter how many times you saw it, you never get used to it. No matter how complicated how estranged anything except for downright evil, children never really let go of their parents.
They donât know how. Theyâre not taught how.
Varsha aunty wasnât in a much better position. Neither was Jasmeet Chachi.
The person lying inside wasâŠ
Was important to them tooâŠ
So important!
That they were still trying to stand and lend a shoulder even through all this told bounds about how brave they were and how good they were.
But Abir didnât care for any of this, his world was ending what use were these virtues to him?
He saw them and some twisted part of brain that handled his functions analysed and fed to him what was happening around him.
Bur he didnât care.
He did not.
âBadi ma aapki parchayi apne bade papa ke saath jud gayi hainâ Abir bantered, they were having a silly back and forth, him, her, bade papa and badi ma.
His gaze flew to Kunal who was sitting with nanu and Atul holding a small water bottle and talking about something to mamu whoâd just come over. He could see that he was complaining about something followed by that stupid laugh that was oh so rare these days(wasnât it always.)
He wasnât missing him that much, not really, he just wished he could hear his laugh (true, undaunted and free) up close just once, just one more time.
âHaan badi afsos ki baath haiâ badi ma faux lamented, âpar agar tum mile tho baath pakki haiâŠâ
Mishti gasped, âbadi ma aap mujhe chod kar abir ke paas jaa rahi hain?â
âKyun naa jaaunâ Badi ma replied, âheera hai ye heeraâŠâ
Anything that could have been a retort or reply was stopped as they got up to take some prashad.
As he and Mishti finished it laughing, Badi ma looked at him with so much love in his eyes that he felt overwhelmed, then she said with a thick voice , âaise hi humesha khush raho!â
Abir fell against the harsh hospital floors and cold walls. His body was wracked with sobs.
His spine bent at and odd angle, legs tucked into torso, head tucked into knees, and hands holding it all down. Lest he go feralâŠ.
Code blue
That was what he sawâŠ
He stared death in the face and he only wished he could ask it to take him.
Life tethered to his, irreversibly,
Beat that mattered more than his own, always,
Breath that was as good as his own, forever.
That was what he nearly lost
And Abir Rajvansh now knew what it felt like to have his beating heart ripped out of his chest and displayed for the world to see as he was flayed alive from inside.
Every stab, every cut, every pierce, every poke, every damn touch of the blade⊠his heart would react. Perhaps this was how it would feel. He was sure, for there was no other way to describe it.
He didnât register the absolute wreck his surroundings were, didnât register pieces chipping away from his family around him, didnât register the collapse, didnât register bade papa walking up to him, holding him by his shoulders and straightening him up, he didnât know what he did with his hands, maybe heâd feel guilty later when he didnât feel so gutted. Gutted wasnât even the right word. He had no word for this torture.
He didnât know what bade papa saw in his eyes or what he didnât see. But he sat there with him, keeping him grounded. Like a father holding his child in his arms, (just when he thought heâd taken that burden off his shoulders,) he doesnât know what he does in his embrace just that he doesnât feel like ripping himself apart limb by limb anymore.
His shoulder soaks wet and he realises heâs been crying too.
He looks past the shield in front of him and his eyes land on the woman whoâs always seen him as his son. She looks devastated. Heâs never seen her like that.
She looks at him and he still sees warmth. (You told me to be happy, Iâm sorry)
âAbirâ Maasi calls to him and he turns towards her excited and happy.
She is hesitant about something and his smile widens cause he knows that will comfort her.
âBen ba bula rahi haiâ she mutters. His smile drops. (He doesnât mean to, really, she was his mother.) Now she gives him a small earnest smile, knowing that will assure him.
He nods and follows her. He crosses paths with Kunal who makes it a point to not look at him. (It doesnât hurt except it really does.)
His mother is by the chowki standing with a gharchola. âHaan aao abirâ she calls when she spots him.
He goes to her wordlessly, âYeh ambe maa ka haiâ she presents it to him, âtumhari hone wali patni ke liyeâŠâ
She trails off and she is looking at him with hope and fear. And he canât bear it. He takes it with a nod swallowing back tears, âthank you ma.â
And a part of him wishes he could go back to times when they both said too much instead of too less.
His mom smiles and itâs this desperate, breaking out of surface thing that it cuts him deep. (She was his mother, not his enemy.)
Itâs only when heâs left and walked back and sat down with all his wallow and despair that he realises sheâd given the gharchola to kunal for kuhu too. It doesnât matter really. (Except hin and nanko were supposed to do all this together, they were supposed to be together.)
Abir Rajvansh had always seen his mother as a strong woman, an absolute mountain he couldnât move. That hurt sometimes, because he was her son.
Today however, he missed nothing more than his motherâs strong steady presence. Her and masi. Nanu had called them sisters. And heâd seen why in their suffering. They were bound by a pain unique to them. Hurting in a way no one here understood. (Except for maybe him, maybe they didnât understand how much he hurt.)
More than ravaged, more than devastated, theyâd been⊠Undone.
His mother rid herself of all her pride and maasi of all her control, their cries were heart wrenching, even when they were muffled by each otherâs or familyâs shoulders. They loved and they suffered. (Because of him.)
âMera bachaâ his mom whispered and it hurt more than a shout or wail, âMujhe kuch karna chahiye thaâŠâ
Abir turned to her. âMaine kuch nahin kiyaâ she continued, âhumari wajah se, meri wajah seâŠâ
Masi had said something he couldnât hear, his mother however replied, âmaine bola tha parul, woh is ghar ke liye khatra ban kar aayega aur main use rok nahin payiâŠâ
Abir couldnât take it. âMehul kapadia ne jo bhi kia uska zimmedar sirf Mehul kapadia hai!â (Maybe abir too was responsible but he couldnât bear to hear it, not now, not from his own mother.)
Maa looked up at him with red ravaged eyes. She didnât say anything just looked down.
Silent solitude, it used to bring him peace, but it hurt him enough to bite into his own lips now.
âAbirâ Masi whispered but before she could say anything the alarm blared andâŠ
Everything around Abir blurred for him except for that blinking light.
âNankoâ he whispered
More scared than heâd ever been in his entire life.
He felt more comforted with baba than heâd cared to admit. He sought him out and it calmed his entire being. Sometimes something unknown heckled him but he didnât put a finger on it. (He was so alone these days, he was surrounded by people yet he felt so lonely, it was ridiculous.)
âBeta ye meenu ne diya?â He asked looking at the gharchola. Abir nodded eagerly. He smiled. (Something was off but abir couldnât afford to lose another person.)
âAchi baath haiâ he said, âmeenu mishti ko apna rahi haiâŠâ
Abir smiled then. Not a bright, wide toothy smile but a small shy smile that was do earnest and content in itâs being that people would want ti sculpted on his being. Then Baba spoke,
âDukh ki baath hai ki yeh sab darr ki wajah se haiâ abirâs smile fell, âaur kunalâŠâ
God please donât go there. How could his own father not see how bereft he was whenever they talked about Kunal (this wasnât how it was supposed to be, when he dreamed of this, Nanko was always there)
Abir smiled sadly at him giving the impression that heâd heard what baba had said over his own wild breathing. He felt bad about it, but he couldnât do anything about it.
Sometimes heâd wonder why baba never took the time or initiative with Kunal. (Didnât that mean baba didnât love Nanko and how could someone who didnât love his nanko be his father?) Then heâd realise, if being away from Nanko for a mere month had hurt him enough to make breathing hurt. Then what would it have to done to the person who didnât know Kunal existed and now was hated by him.
On particularly dark days heâd wonder if that was his destiny too. No please no, anything but that.
âAapke chote bete ko goli lagi hai, woh operation theatre mein hai, aapki biwi ki halath kharabh hai, aapka sasural bikhar gaya hai apne ghar ke bete ko khone ke darr main aur aapka bade beta⊠woh khud ek laash ban kar ghoom raha hain⊠aur aap baba, kahan the aap? Kya kar rahe the?â
He knew the answer of course, he didnât ask questions he didnât know answers to. Not here, not now. Heâd heard the confession, seen the gun, heard the calls, seen the logs but he needed to know.
Maybe a part of him couldnât believe yet that his father was his criminal.
He brought him to their house. (I am doing this for you he told Kunal, god⊠what did he do?)
He brought him to his family, to his mother, to his brother. (He was supposed to protect him.)
His father, the thought burned his insides to ash. This was no father of his, this was the man who nearly killed his brother. Mehul tussled with the police, his handsâŠ
âBeta sunoâ he lied, ânanko-â
âDonât you dareâ Abir whispered dangerously, âUss naam par yah Nanko par aapka koi haq nahin hai, na kabhi tha, na kabhi rahegaâŠâ
âAbirâ Mehul persisted.
âMehul Kapadiaâ Abir said in a tone that would turn stone into dust, âI will pull your eyes out if you even turn to look at my little brother.â
After that he fell back, everyone around him, except for a select few, kids like him and his mom and the one who was her sister, everyone else was angry enough to show Mehul his place and finish the job yet not cross any line.
Abir honestly didnât care⊠the anger was just an excuse for the guilt. He was supposed to protect Nanko, from everything, yet heâd been the one who made him walk the sword.
His hands shivered as hot tears rolled down his cheeks. His guilt was just a cover after all, to the daunting fear taking over him.
If somethingâŠ
If something happened to KunalâŠ
What was he going to do?
What was he supposed to do?
Maybe it was selfish of him to think of what would happen to him when his brother was in there, fighting for his life, hurt and all alone not knowing about all the people who were waiting out here for him, to know that he is okay so that they can finally breathe, but abir didnât know if heâd ever be able to breathe completely ever again.
Not with this pitch black fear of losing Nanko.
Of⊠of living a life without him.
That scared Abir more than death, more than life, more than anything this whole world could throw at him.
Something inside his was repeating like a stuck recorder or a scratched disc, âI canât do this!â
âI canât do this!â
âI canât do this!â
But for the love of god, Abir didnât know what he was supposed to do? What was he even supposed to do when he was here and Nanko was in there and he could do nothing⊠what was he supposed to do?
âEk chola kya de diya tum toh maa ki fan hi ban gayi mishtiâ Abir teased.
âAbirâ Mishti harrumphed still smiling holding it carefully, âtum jaanthe ho na yeh chola mere liye kithna important haiâŠâ
âJhaantha hoonâ Abir said, âaur chaahtha hoon ki asie moments tumhari life mein aur bhi bohot kuch aayeâŠâ
His eyes of course went to where he saw Kunal sitting just moments before, before he left on a call. Mishtiâs eyes followed him and well he couldnât hide, so he turned away. (God nanko, just give me a thread, Iâll hold on to it till the end of my days. Iâll do anything.)
âYeh main kab pehnoon?â Mishti asked twirling it getting him out of his melancholy.
âKab matlab kya?â He asked rising in dramatic octaves, âkabhi bhi peheno, tum par acha hi lagegaâŠâ
She smiled and he returned it. ThenâŠ
âAbir bro aapne kunal ko dekha kya?â Kuhu asked him typing something into phone.
âHaa hoga yahin kahinâ Abir answered, nonchalant. (He wasnât his brotherâs keeper, so why did it hurt now to not know what Kunal was up to?)
âAapka nanko na #question mark haiâ Kuhu said exasperated.
He smiled despite himself, (he always smiled when people spoke of his nanko, he was always so proud, so awed), âkyun ab kya kiya usne?â
âYeh chola diyaâ Abir raised a brow and she immediately added, âBohoth pyaar se diya, par phir phone lekar chala gaya aur ab tak atha patha nahin hai..â
Abir chuckled sadly, âwoh aajkal kya kartha hain, kyun kartha hain or kab kartha hain sirf meri ma aur bhagwan jaaneâŠâ (he used to know this stuff, he was the only one who knew)
Kuhu looked at him in sympathy and abir just looked down, he couldnât not miss his brother even to be happy for his family.
She gave him a shoulder squeeze, âI understand #tough life bro..â
They took his little brother inside and his hand was bereft of his hold. Abir flinched at the lack of contact like someone burned him to bone.
Mishti cocooned him in her being, âAbirâ she cooed, trying to guard him from all the pain she knew was at his doorstep, all that guilt, all that anger and all that fear.
Abirâs eyes however were fixed on the closed doors, the way nanko looked, stained in blood, clenched in pain and so still.
He would never be able to get that out of his head. Maybe not for a couple more lifetimes.
How was he supposed to live like this?
How was he supposed to live with this?
He held on to mishtiâs presence, everyone around him was in shambles and he thought maybe if he held on tight enough⊠it would be enoughâŠ
But he couldnât do this⊠the guilt was eating at him and the anger, it burned him cold.
He couldnât hold on⊠he couldnât understand what was going on inside him⊠and he doubted anyone did⊠no one knew not really⊠what this silence was, this freeze across his chest, this fire in every breath⊠no one understood cause he himself didnât.
He looked around trying to escape his own had. His eyes fell on Kuhu, Kuhu? She was with her mom, who was an emotional mess. But Kuhu⊠she was too still, too pale, too shaken. And thatâs how he knew it was herâŠ
She hadnât loved Kunal all her life with all her being like he had.
But she had loved Kunal when Abir was losing him.
Maybe it was enough, maybe it wasnât⊠the truth was he could do with even a fraction of it.
He looked at Mishti once and turned towards kuhu. Mishti wordlessly led him to her and made him sit, not trusting him with his being. That didnât hurt him, he didnât trust it either. Varsha aunty too moved hoping they would console her daughter.
Kuhu looked at him and Abir looked at her.
Kunal looked at her when his soft warm lips stained with blood.
Kunal looked at him when his tired pained eyes slowly shut close.
Their hands found each other, wrapping into one.
âAbir bro yehâŠâ Kuhu was murmuring, trying to clear her own head from this thick heavy fog that threatened to drown her. Abir didnât trust himself to speak, (funny heâd always had a way with wordsâŠ) âyeh sab kya haiâ kuhu continued dazed, âhum kya karenge?â
âHum kunal ko bachalengeâ Mishti announced determined, âkuch bhi hojaye, hum kunal ko bachalengeâŠâ
Kuhu looked at her with eyes shining with tears.
Abirâs gaze locked to the clamped glass doors.
Save himâŠ
Protect himâŠ
Isnât that what he just failed at?
âKunalâ Abir called, Kunal turned to him, being as guarded as he always was these days but with also that little bit of trepidation, drive a knife through my heart why donât you!
âNankoâ Abir canât help himself, he knows the nickname will relax kunal a little bit and so thatâs what he does, calls his nanko nanko to get a glimpse of the sweet child who used to hang onto his coat tails for the life of him.
âKya har raha hain tuâ Abir goes on as if everything was normal, âkuhu kabse tumhe doond rahi haiâ
âWoh bas ek call thaâ Kunal answers, then adds, âoffice se tha bhaiâ as if he was wondering if abir was doubting. Abir pauses and Kunal clamps his lips shut, like always, always when he was scared or tensed or overwhelmed.
âAchaâ Abir struggled for words, (he wondered what he did to deserve this,) âsab log hain yahan tho thosi der kam ko switch off kar dheâŠâ
Kunal nodded. They he turned around. Abir swallowed a lump. Following that they had been around each other the entire evening, always at each otherâs steps, just at an arms length, he was used to having Kunal stuck at his hip, to throw his arm around him, to pull his leg or stand in-front of him.
He wasnât used to this. It hurt like hell and he didnât know what to do.
The first thing Abir registers when he sees it, is the faint rustle, the bullet was silent. Yet Nanko jerked like a puppet whose strings had been pulled out.
He was still flinching from the projected impact when red bloomed across Kunalâs chest.
There was a guttural scream that echoed around him as Kunalâs face clamped in pain. He didnât know what the sound was⊠he didnât care.
The police and security around him were yelling at people to get down, to fall to ground, cover your head. Abir registered none of this.
Kunal even in the pain had unconsciously sought out Abir. Took a step towards him pressing his hand against gushing blood. And his feet gave out.
All in a split second. Abir rushed to him on pure instinct, fell to his knees holding him up.
It wasnât enough.
âNanko?! Kunal⊠look⊠nankoâŠâ
There were people around him moving aroundz There were people around him, his people, screaming, frazzled and scared.
Abir couldnât take his eyes off from the little brother whoâd still not grown up to his height and yet he couldnât hold him up, steady.
âItâs going to be okay⊠Youâre going to be okayâŠâ
Kunal was buckling into himself as Abir struggled to hold him up and stop that damned wound from bleeding out.
âNankoâŠ. Dekh⊠look at me⊠itâs going to be okayâŠâ
He was pressing his palm on top of nankoâs loose hand into the wound. To do something, anythingâŠ. All the while his eyes were fixed to his little brotherâs face as blood filled his mouth and his eyes roamed around aimlesslyâŠ
âHey⊠hey⊠Nanko⊠main hoon yahan⊠mujhe dekh⊠itâs going to be okayâŠmain sab theek kar dungaâŠ.â
Abirâs breath hitched as Kunalâs head lolledâŠ.
âMain bol raha hoon naâŠ. Youâre going to be okay⊠Iâve got you⊠Bhaiâs got youâŠâ
Kunalâs eyes fell to him and abir smiledâŠ
âSee thatâs my boy⊠it just looks bad⊠kuch nahin hoga tujhe⊠youâre going to-â
Then his eyes fell to shut close and Abir frozeâŠ
âNa..nko? NoâŠ. Nanko!? No please⊠dekh mujhe⊠Kunal?!!â
He held Kunal against him desperately, aa if trying to hide him. He kissed his hair as his mouth opened in horror and tears burned down his cheeksâŠ
âNANKO!â
He cried in anguish as the movement around him reached them.
âNoâŠ.â
Finally watched hill house and I need to talk about it with someone⊠none of my friends are into it now thoâŠ
So, the old fashioned way, need moots
The reason I donât have boy issues is because I have mommy and daddy issuesâŠ
Canât have too many issues
Another year of metaphorical ropes and knives

Blogs like incorrectmahbharataquotes keep showing me how uninformed and downright fucking stupid some people areâŠ
This is exactly why Tumblr is reddit 2.0
The delulu and holier than thou attitude is strong
I donât understand people who talk about Indian tribes and somehow separate it from HinduismâŠ
Like bitch how fucking stupid can you be????
So we start from Season 2 Episode 3
"Season what?" Stefan asks perplexed.
"The squirrels" Caroline replied with a duh, "don't they go bland eating only plants?"
Stefan only chuckled and did not chide her or judge her, she liked that about him.
"So, what's with the edgy Vampire look?" she prodded.
"Wha.. Caroline!" He exclaimed, "first I was too serious and now I am edgy... you make me sound like a Cullen."
"Well, who are you searching for, discreetly?" She asked, "Or trying to.."
Stefan clicked his tongue as if he was contemplating it. Then he looked at her with his serious vampire look, kind of.
"Well you know those two Indian kids in our class right?" he asks.
Pffttttt, "What do you take me for? Of course I would!" she harrumphed.
No one and she means no one underestimated her.
"Well Damon's convinced there's something suspicious about them?" he said folding his hands.
"And you're not... unconvinced?" She implores.
"I am not sure" he admits.
"So what are you gonna do now?" she asks curious and a tad bit wary.
"I" he stresses, she doesn't know if it's conscious or not, "was going to try and figure them out."
"Was?" she chirps.
"Well" he chuckles, "funnily enough, we can't seem to get a hold of them."
"If you are looking for them at wannabe frat parties, you're never going to find them" Caroline suggests.
"Well then where should I be looking for them?" Stefan asks.
It feels like he is actually going to value her answer and that feels good. She is going to get her life back one step at a time, just like this.
"The Masquerade party at the Lockwoods,' if not the community service for it" Caroline answers, "Every teen in the town is invited to it... no one misses it. Unlike this, that one's actually important."
He nods.
She smiles.
~
"So, how did meeting the resident alpha go?" Damon snarks, all he does is snark these days.
Because honesty gets him nowhere obviously.
"Neither one of us died" Stefan supplies from the couch.
"He attacked you" Damon declares. How does his brother always get into these situations?
"Well I attacked him first" Stefan uselessly quips.
"I am not gonna shake his hand Stefan" Damon usefully quips.
"Damon" there it is, the shade.
"He has made his move Stefan" Damon bites, "I am not gonna sit duck. What about the other two shady people?"
"I'd rather you fixate on Mason Lockwood than those two" Stefan, Stefan, Stefan! How his brother remembers his own name with all the naivety in there is beyond him!
"What'd you find out?" he asks, asking 'answers.'
"Well a lot... of nothing" Stefan, the bitch he is, sasses.
"Well then do better" Damon sasses back, "Katherine freaking Pierce is in town, now we've got a wolf on the porch, anyone suspicious must be dealt with. So, go put in your hours or you're gonna lose your job at sainthood."
~
"You do realise that this violates labour rights somewhere" Damon whines.
"Ironic hearing you talk about rights" Stefan laughs dryly.
"Har Har baby bro! Keep em coming" Damon snarks.
Then it's a nauseating patrol of formalities and normalcy. Nothing he likes.
He was flirting with Carol Lockwood when he heard him.
That little perp!
He can't just vamp! Cause people! Mayor! Mason! Council! Bullshit!
"Yeah tell aunty not to worry, I'll take Padhma home." He is talking to someone on his phone and because of the distance Damon can't hear the other side of conversation, ugh, "Yeah we extended your apologies to the Mayor... yeah cheppa adhi kooda... 'we are willing to contribute to the community and this public park in anyway we can' that's exactly what I said, she might meet for a tea party with you. Yes ma... I know the difference between Vervain and Vermillion. I got the right stuff... why? it is stuff... that's how everyone talks about it..."
(I told that too)
Damon froze when he heard Vervain.
He couldn't handle vervain the other day and now he was cultivating it, what kind of a vampire was this? Was he a witch? Or a wolf? Are wolves repulsive to Vervain too?
Before he could tune back in, the call was done and he was walking toward the girl. Damon, being the responsible big brother he was, decided to go antagonize Stefan about his hushed talks with Mason Lockwood.
He'll deal with them by the time this parade ends.
He decided.
Fate on the other hand, decided to be a bitch. He'd gotten drugged, shot, dragged into a dungeon along with his brother, who got pumped with wood within an inch of his life.
So, yeah, other things had left his mind, temporarily.
Mason came first.
~
"So you've finally decided to get off their backs"Â Stefan joked, kind of. He was feeling like a chain smoker, who laid off for years and finally took one puff. His entire system felt like some one was sanding his bleeding wounds.
"No" Ughhh, he didn't need this right now, "I don't understand your obsession with them Damon. She resisted your compulsion one day, in a town crawling with founder's council members... She could have hit the grill that day for all we know and drank vervain laced coffee."
"Uh uh uh" Damon said with a click of his tongue, "That's where I'm gonna stop you, our shady friends from another land have literally never hit the grill."
Wait, "never?" How can that be?
"Makes you wonder if they even want to fit in" Damon continues, "the day Mason Lockwood almost got us killed, I heard the boy talking on his phone to someone and he mentioned Vervain."
His eyebrows shoot up, "well that complicates things..." Damon gives him a cheshire cat grin and he knows his brother has already decided to kill them. But Stefan still has his doubts.
"But we still don't know if they're harmful" Stefan provides.
"It's mystic falls" Damon deadpans, "they know vervain so they know about vampires, they skipped the swim hole party so they know about werewolves."
Stefan sighs, "or their families were given vervain by council members. It wouldn't be impossible after the recent incidents.."
"The council is full of uptight idiots playing pretend, they can't even save their own much less distribute the vampire repellent among the resident highschoolers" Damon bites, "I would know."
Stefan frowns, "and you're a 100 % sure that their parents are not in the council? Like night shift or something... behind your backs you know?"
"Yes, Stefan" Damon hisses "I keep a list of people who can potentially come after us with a pitchfork."
Stefan licks his lips in thought, pondering over the possibilities. For a couple of supernatural beings, they spent too much time studying and sticking to themselves. If Elena was their target, they would've skiveed someone from his group and warmed up to them.
But they made no effort. They were familiar with them as much as any other kid in their classes were albeit, a bit strange. But then again, they weren't run of the mill American students, who knew what was their normal?
Damon, however isn't done, "Whenkat or whatever his name is, spit out vervain laced coffee, yet is hoarding it. Does it remind you of anyone?"
Katherine, of course everything was about Katherine, "He could be her lackey for all we know, or you know, the barker in the room, Team wolf."
"So, he's a wolf now?" Stefan drawled.
"Could be.. "Â Damon smirked, "we could nab him and ask him."
"No" Absolutely not, "Look they've been here since the school started, if they were vampires or werewolves or witches or ninja turtles... we would have known."
"Did everything I just said fly over your hero hair?" Damon hisses.
"Look, Caroline told me that they've volunteered to help for the masquerade party, Mason is also going to be there, if they're involved with each other, we'll know" He suggests and he knows Damon will relent.
"Fine" Damon whines as he does.
~
A vervain well? Really?
Damon wasn't sure if it was Mason's idea or Katherine's... he just knew it was done to bite their asses.
Power puff girls dragged in his brother (who looked brother less and roadkill more) over an hour ago and he still couldn't quite hide the occasional wince.
"You do realise that your healing will accelerate with a warm glass of O- right" Damon implored.
Stefan just smiled, goddd stop being a stubborn bastard for one damn second. "Suit yourself" Damon grimaced.
"So" Stefan began and he could already hear the oncoming snark, "Mason Lockwood got taken by us, you had enough time to torture him before ripping his heart out and then gloat to Katherine. We got the moonstone..."
"And?" He knew there was an and, he's only had a brother for 168 years.
"And" oh there you go gloating, "Neither of them batted an eye at this entire mess."
"And that absolves all the suspicion?" Damon snarked back.
Stefan sighed, yeah that's more like it, "Damon I was watching them the entire time" baby bro has got that whine in his voice now, "I don't think they even know who Mason is... was... Mason didn't acknowledge them either..."
"And does that conclude your research?" Damon grins, tight. He knows Stefan is trying to keep him from them.
"You want to know my thesis?" Stefan glares, "Fine, my finding is that they are completely innocent, because when they weren't working like the rest of us with the occasional small talk, they were gushing to each other about a new album."
Wait what? "You're telling me while you were being water boarded in a vervain well and while I was poking holes in our resident werewolf, they were talking about.... Songs?!"
"Yeah" Stefan trolls, "I wonder what part of their evil masterplan that is..."
"Don't sass me" Damon growls, "what songs were they talking about?"
Stefan looks at him like he's crazy before his jaw sets, but his eyes soften and why are they doing that? He doesn't need that look, "Apparently a new movie album dropped yesterday , it's from India... They were talking about it the entire time they were together.
This has got to be some kind of joke... there's no way that someone is that innocent or lucky in Mystic fucking falls.
"Orange" Stefan declares as he remembers, "that was the name."
"Who the hell names a movie after a fruit?" Who does that? Stefan chuckles and he continues, "and what kind of nerdy monsters are they to talk about a movie about a fruit while preparing for a ball??!"
Stefan shrugs and Damon groans.
~
"This is the second time I'm telling you dimwits" Damon announces, "if you want to leave, run, now."
No one moves...
Ugh!
These idiots, brave noble idiots. Damon licks his lips in exasperation.
Everyone is looking at him in mild irritation, except Stefan, he looks amused.
Really?!
"We should skim over the details mission once again" Caroline asks more like orders.
"Sure barbie" Damon smirks, if he needs to doll this into their dumb heads once again so they realise the stakes, then he'll gladly do it.
"Bonnie is going to spell the room, jeremy is going to give her the false lead and Caroline is going to lead her to the room, the actual trap" he nods at the scooby gang core trio, them nodding and smiling at each other.
Gah teenagers!
"Alaric will not let Elena out of his sight, thus keeping her from running into danger" get the clue you morons, "Stefan and I will already be in the room when blondie tricks Katherine in to walking in."
Everyone nods and Stefan just tightens his hold on his hands. Folding hands menacingly wasn't enough and now he had to look like he was popping his elbows, wow, ominous!
"And while we're doing this" Damon continues looking at the witch, little gilbert and baby vampire, "I want you three... to do another errand" he earns confused looks but drawls on, "keep an eye on the Indian students."
"What?" Caroline asks, incredulous, "what did they do?" She turns to Stefan, "I thought you said you were just being paranoid."
Oh did he? He looks at Stefan too, who just shakes his head, "Damon I told you that day to leave them alone."
"Yeah the day Jenna got stabbed and Katherine gloated that she has backups to backup her backups" Damon says sounding nonchalant, "Katherine is going to have some kind of back up."
Stefan relents, "Fine... keep a stray eye on them."
"He actually means don't let them out of your collective sight" Damon nods.
He gets confused yet dutiful nods and eye rolls at that and he is satisfied.
Soon enough, everyone has left and it's only him and Stefan.
He is loading the wrist bands with stakes, when, "Damon" he looks up and Stefan is looking at him.
"Don't worry" he says, sincere, "we will get her... and... no one will get hurt."
Damon doesn't share his optimism. Still he nods, just as sincere.
~
"Why do you think Damon is suspicious of Padmuh?" Bonnie asks.
"Who knows maybe she looked at him wrong"Â Caroline answers and Jeremy snorts whole Bonnie chuckles.
"What I am curious about" Caroline continues, "is why Stefan is suspicious of her..."
Jeremy looks between them and Bonnie nods.
Stefan is sweet, he wouldn't needlessly doubt someone.
"I don't think he does" Jeremy announced, "not completely."
Caroline looks at him and contemplates it, "he wanted to ask her something that day at swim hole too, her and Whenkat... obviously they didn't show up."
"Why did they even fall into their radar?" Bonnie ponders, "they're not shady or anything."
"How would we know?" Caroline muses, "they keep to themselves most of the times."
"I talked to Whenkat the other day in history class" Bonnie declares, "he didn't feel like a vampire."
"You can feel if he is a vampire?" Caroline asks surprised.
"Yeah I can feel the vibes" Bonnie answers nonchalant, "when I touch them it feels cold like death. But there are tells without any touches too you know."
Caroline is silent for a moment before she mutters an "Oh!"
"Well they're on Vervain apparently" she continues, "so they can't be compelled."
"But didn't the guy spill out Vervain?" Jeremy countered.
"If it's because she can't be compelled" Bonnie said, deep in thought, "witches can't be compelled either, can werewolves be compelled?"
"I don't know" Jeremy answered, Bonnie nodded then asked, "has anyone tried compelling Tyler or Mason?"
Caroline shook her head.
"Mason probably couldn't be compelled" Jeremy provided.
"How-" Bonnie began but was cut off by Caroline's, "Whenkat, 5'0 clock."
There he was in a black shirt and black pants. He was standing at the entrance, yet to take his mask. He was on his mobile.
He waved at someone and she came into view, she was wearing a crop top and a Long skirt.
She turns and waves at someone, he cuts the call and they start talking as they walk down the archway.
"Can you hear them?"
~
"No... you're not late" he says scoffing, "I only reached five minutes ago.."
She smiles nervously and then looks at the crowd in the opening.
"Everyone is wearing frocks and I'm wearing a lehenga" she mutters.
"Everyone is wearing a suit and I'm wearing a shirt" he adds.
She lets out a low whine before rolling her eyes and saying, "oh pulllease, you look handsome and smart."
He smiles, "you look like a heroine."
She scoffs, "stop lying."
"I don't lie" he countered.
She grits her teeth, "this was so last minute it probably doesn't even look fitted."
"Stop fretting" he hums, "you literally look angelic."
She shakes her head, then smiles.
"I'm just afraid" she confessed, "what if something goes wrong?"
He clicked his tongue and looked at her, "Well if something does go wrong... we will handle it."
~
Caroline gasped.
"Care, what is it?" Bonnie asked confused.
"He..." Caroline sputtered, "I heard him say if something goes wrong, they'll handle it."
"Handle what?" Bonnie asked suspicious.
"I don't know" Caroline cried, "I only heard that much." She was just a baby vamp, curse her for not being a century old douche.
"We should keep an eye on them" Jeremy declared.
They went to pick up masks and everyone's eyes were stuck to them, many only for a moment, others longer, discreetly, a few however stuck to them like glue. They were rigid, like they were scared or waiting for something, they were on an edge.
Whenkat looked around probably feeling the eyes trained on them, Padmuh however was staring at the masks, biting her bottom lip.
She looked at Whenkat and he looked at her, "I wish I got a stick."
"The hell is that supposed to mean?" Caroline asked no one, confused.
"What?" Bonnie asked, irritated.
"She said she wishes she got a stick" Caroline answered.
"A stick?" Jeremy wondered, bamboozled
"Yeah, a stick" Caroline deadpanned. Does she mean a wand or something?
They both pick up masks from the leftover litter. Padmuh looks at hers woefully, it is a great design, classy but grand but is blue and her dress is black with golden details, Whenkat says something after prodding her in the arm.
"Why does she want a stick?"Â Bonnie went from irritated to puzzled.
"Maybe she said stake" Jeremy provided, "Indians have an accent right?"
Padmuh sighs and they exchange masks. His mask is exactly like Stefan's except there's no red, it's black. It suited Stefan so well, he looked extra hot.
Whenkat takes the blue one and Padmuh takes the black one.
And Voila.
Everything falls into place. Whenkat's blue mask brings out his chocolate brown eyes, black waves of hair fall over it, making it go so well with his complete black outfit.
Padmuh's curls fold around her mask and it looks like it was always part of her dress.
Padmuh smiles, her lips raising only on side, it's cheeky and there's a hand gesture, three of her fingers fly out and curl around like she's beckoning something.
Whenkat chuckles, then he gives her a thumbs up.
"No" Caroline refuted, "have you heard them? They speak perfect English."
"I would have heard them if I heard of them before yesterday night" Jeremy snarks.
"Maybe it's a code word"Â Bonnie pulls a hail mary. Thank god for her! Caroline and Jeremy both turn to her, sharp, her blonde curls sway and fall.
"For what?" Caroline blurts. Bonnie shrugs, strained. Jeremy just looks. This is going to go no where, she knows it, at least those two are gorgeous and smiling.
~
"You see them?" Stefan asked Damon, his finger tapping lightly on his mobile.
His brother hummed, no, Damon doesn't hum, Damon growls and grumbles, which is exactly what he did just then, "You can't miss them if you wanted to."
Whenkat was the only one who wasn't in a suit and Padmuh was the only in who wasn't in a knee length frock, "almost like they're just trying to fit in and have fun."
"Well then we should fit in too" Damon grinned, which was a sign that he was scheming something, "why don't you help them fit in, offer a drink?"
Stefan smiled, clipped, "I am not in the mood to get turned down."
They should stay together, Katherine was probably, definitely, already here and they should stay together.
"They were an paranoid back track errand anyway" Stefan says, nonchalant. Get the clue Damon.
Damon doesn't even nod, but he knows, he gets it.
~
Venkat takes a sip of his 'orange' juice. It tastes like sugar produced in a chemistry lab. But his mother will come after him with her stainless steel ladle if he touched any of the alcohol.
Padhma prods his arm, he turns to look at her.
"I need to use the restroom" she says, "where do you think it is?"
He looks around, there are no boards for directions, they should have worked in that department instead of setting up tables and making professional small talk with Tyler's mom. He wonders for a moment if they have to go inside the house.
He looks back at Padhma, "Intlo unnayemo.."
(Maybe they're in the house)
She sighs, frustrated, "Tyler ni adugudham." He nods, then looks around and Tyler is nowhere to be found.
(We'll ask Tyler.)
He spots Matt, gestures to Padhma and jogs towards him. "Hey" he greets him.
"Hey man" Matt says back but is clearly distracted.
"Could you tell me where the restrooms are?"Â he asks with a smile.
"In the guest house" he points towards it. Venkat thanks him and they both scurry off in opposite directions.
"Guest house ponum aam" He tells Padhma and points at it, she follows his sight. From here he can see that some of the kids are getting drunk there.
(It seems we have to go to the guest house)
They're harmless, mostly, but he can still see the same apprehension in him cloud Padhma's eyes.
"Let's go together"Â he offers. She gives him a small smile and nods.
The guest house is huge and so are the restrooms. She looks at her, asking if he needs to go.
"I'll wait" he says, opening a water bottle he picked up on the way.
"Okay" she says, removing her mask and putting it on the narrow marble desk with her clutch purse.
He opens the water bottle and savours the sips as he waits for her.
She comes back shortly and washes her face, "my hair is killing me."
He chuckles as she takes out a narrow claw clip and puts her hair in a messy bun.
He finishes his water and throws the bottle in a dust bin.
She straps her mask on and pouts, "I wish I got one with a stick to hold it... it looked so fancy."
He snorts, "won't you get tired of holding it?"
She rolls her eyes and pats down her lehenga. Smoothing it.
He folds his shirt's cuffs humming 'nenu nuvvantu' absently.
They both look at each other.
She nods at him as he looks up at her and they both walk out. Him a step behind her.
They stop near the guest house's entrance and she picks up a water bottle, he holds her purse as she opens it and gulps it down.
"We only have 10 more minutes before your dad comes to pick us up" he announces.
"Maybe we should just wait at the entrance" she muses.
"Great" he agrees.
They are halfway there when he wonders, "should we return the masks?"
They both stop, "I hope not" she says with a chuckle, "that blue mask looks great on you."
"Emmov" he laughs, "you picked this atrocity."
(Ladyyy)
Thankfully, they do not have to return them.
~
Padhma's dad drives into their driveway and they both peal out of it.
"Completely black and black" Padhma's mom chides as she looks at them, "sattaiyaavadhu vella colour pottirukanum la.."
(Should have atleast worn a white shirt)
"Ada neenga vera aunty" he whines, "that's what everyone else was wearing."
(Please aunty...)
Padhma laughs at him as she climbs up her steps.
"Yeah, waiters kooda" she teases.
(Even the waiting staff)
He narrows his eyes and huffs, "okay aunty, I'll go Amma wait pannitu irupa.."
"Yeah" she nods, "inaikki your father is working overtime la.. seeikram po"
(Today.... Go soon)
He waves her and Uncle a bye and struts to his home.
"Amma" he sing songs as his mom opens their door.
(Mommy)
"Offo" she says as he comes in as if she didn't click a dozen pictures as he was leaving, "aa shirt theesesi ra... let's eat dinner."
(Change out of that shirt)
"So how was it?" She asks as he plops down in his pjs.
~
"It was okay... we didn't stay for long" Padhma answered nonchalantly, savouring being out of the lehenga.
"Well that's nice" her mother replied, "drishti eduknaum va.."
(Come, I'll ward of the evil eye on you)
Padhma chuckles, "enna yaarum paakala ma.."
(No one saw me)
"Nonsense" her mum retorts.
"I'm telling you no one saw me" padhma says still laughing.
"We're still doing this" her mother orders.
~
Damon scrunches his eyebrows in confusion as he sees them perform weird ritual, there's salt and she spits on it.
"What are they doing?" He ponders.
"I don't know" Stefan answers lazily.
Duh!!!! This is what spending all your brain cells on a slut does to you Stefan!
The household they were stalking, they only managed to hear one sentence, settled in their routine around the dinner table.
The perfect happy family, he could see them through the window now.
"What do you think she meant?" Damon ponders, "no one saw her..."
"I think you're reaching" Stefan drawls and he wonders why he hasn't snapped his neck yet.
"Don't blame me for having brain cells Stefan!" Damon bites.
"We saw them, they saw us when we saw them, if they were talking about us, then don't you think they would have reported that small detail?" Stefan bites back.
"Yeah so what the hell are they talking about?" Damon points out, because there has to be something they're missing, they just saw them do a ritual.
"Probably nothing about us" Stefan snarks.
"Oh yeah because this town is full of coincidences" he bites. Mason Lockwood, hello!
"Damon" Stefan sighs, here it comes, "you just threw Katherine into a tomb while she was begging you not to. If they were her lackeys, don't you think they would have done something about it?"
Sound logic from a harebrained head!
But Damon can see it on his brother. He is tired.
Pouty, grumpy, broody and whiny too but mostly tired.
So, he relents.
After all Katherine is in a tomb.
~
"So, who the hell kidnapped Elena?" Jeremy huffs, frustrated.
"I don't know Jeremy" she says with a deep sigh, she was so goddamn tired.
"Are you okay?" He asked and she nodded, "yeah, of course."
"We'll go to your house" she suggests, "see if we can do anything more."
"Uhm hey, Bonnie" she hears someone call her and she turns, her stance hardens, because Padmuh is standing in front of her.
She doesn't feel anything off with her but she just can't do this anymore, "What?"
"Mrs Jones asked me to hand this to you" she holds out two paper sheets and ohhh, they had a test three days ago, "Elena didn't come today either. I don't know why she gave them to me honestly, but here..."
Jeremy stiffens at Elena's name.
Their hands touch as she takes her papers and she feels something warm, earthy but it's not magic, there's no pulsing beat. She relaxes involuntarily, "thank you."
"No problem" Padmuh smiles.
~
"So... what do you think?" Damon prods at him.
Stefan thought he was perfectly content with silence, "about what?"
"Tweedle dee, tweedle dum" Damon purrs.
"I think you should stop obsessing over them" Stefan muses.
'Stop obsessing over Elena too' is something that's almost on his tongue but doesn't come out because Damon cares and he can't have a problem with that, even if he wants to.
~
Caroline pitied Tyler.
They were the same, damaged irrevocably, used as pawns in some grand scheme.
They were mortal enemies, a bite from him would kill her, period.
But she couldn't just leave him alone to deal with this. She had woken up alone in the hospital and without Stefan, she wouldn't have made. The full moon is coming. She wants to be there for Tyler.
"Caroline" Matt's voice broke her mind through the crisis spiral, "You wanted to ask me something."
Oh yeah, Matt! Someone had compelled Matt. There was a fat chance it was Katherine, but she wanted to know for sure and see if he knew anything he shouldn't. This was the first time he was back in school after that incident.
"Thanks for coming" She chirped, "I didn't think you..."
Matt grimace and she trails off. They look away from each other before she regains enough composure to ask, "How are you feeling? You had a nasty fall that day"
"I am fine" Matt answers, "Just a bit dazed."
She sighs, she hates doing this, "Who compelled you to pick a fight with Tyler?"
"I don't know" Matt answered, pupils dilated and actually dazed. Ugh!
"Did Katherine talk to you?" She tried again.
"Who is Katherine?" Of course!
"Did Padmuh talk to you?"
"No" well that was better!
"Did Whenkat talk to you?"Â
"Yes" Bingo!
"What did he ask?" Her nerves were on edge! How many villains did they have to deal with?
"He asked me directions for the rest room..."
Seriously?!
"Forget I asked you anything except for how your were doing" She compelled.
"I will forget you asked me anything except for how I was doing" He parroted.
~
"So do you have a degree in lurking or something?" Damon snarked.
Slater scared him, he knew things he shouldn't and things even Damon didn't.
"I have connections" Slater answered. He also took no offence.
Real philosophical!
But a guy who knew everything was exactly what he needed right now.
"So you know about me, my brother and katherine?" Damon laid the ground.
"Yeah" Slater admitted.
"Do you know if there are any other supernatural beings in mystical falls?" Damon pried.
"Well there is your friend Caroline and the bennet witches, you also just told me your town had werewolves... so yeah all three of the supernatural" Slater said with a shrug.
Bennet â
Baby Vampire â
But he'd missed the Lockwoods. So how accurate was he?
"Anyone else" Damon prods
"No, Why do you ask?" Slater answers, damn this guy is brimming with the need to know.
"Just trying to keep track" Damon replies with a grin, that is obviously fake.
His patrons however do not care and then there's glass everywhere.
~
There could be worse places to forcefully in Stefan supposes, but there were places with better room maintenance and there are definitely places with better company.
She is filing her nails with a... nail.
And it's grating on his nerves.
"I could relieve your stress too stefan" she purrs, "you just have to ask."
He sighs, ignoring her for the millionth time.
He lets his thoughts wander, Elena, Damon, Caroline, Tyler, Klaus, Rose... he stops at Padmuh and Whenkat.
Damon was convinced they were both Katherine's lackeys.
He could have asked her and confirmed it.
But in case they weren't involved with her... he doesn't want to doom two innocent souls.
~
"You're not dooming them Jonas just get it done" Elijah orders him.
That's what they always say, just a favour, just a question, just some morbid curiosity, that's what Greta had said.
Now she was with Klaus, his slave.
His freedom wasn't much better, as much as they were in a deal, he was always going to be Elijah's subordinate. Not equal.
Damn these vampires!
So, he nods and goes to do what he's asked.
Except the homes he's supposed to stake out are completely empty.
He gets a simple 'huh' from Elijah at that, followed with a "Did you find anything strange?"
"Well there was a pattern on their porch, drawn with some kind of flour" he recounts, "there was another pattern drawn on their door, it was very small, it was drawn out of Saffron. I remember it being a symbol in Hinduism."
Elijah hums, "and?"
"And..." he recollects, "there was pumpkin tied just shy of their door. It had the same symbol on it."
"Strange" Elijah muses.
~
"So, which innocent soul are you out to terrorise now?" Bonnie asks. Judgy is as judgy is.
"Just you" He chirped, on his best behavior.
She takes a huff and he can feel her annoyance through the phone, "what do you want?"
"I want you to do a spell" he purred.
"What kind of spell?" she asked, now irritated. Well don't blame me for being the only resident witch.
"I went to visit Stefan" he confessed, "On the way, I saw Jonas."
"A mystic falls resident in mystic falls" She drawled, "shocker!"
"He was at Whenkat's house" he smirks.
"Damon I told you guys, I felt nothing from them" Bonnie said, frustrated, "I don't know why you keep suspecting them.."
"Well let's do one final test..." Damon suggests, well okay orders, "Once and for all!
He counts up to 1000 bunnies when his phone rings, to his pleasure, it's bonnie, "I found a spell."
Great!
...
"So, this is like a litmus test?" Damon ponders.
"Yes" Bonnie bites.
"How does this even work?" He questions, because she never explained just dragged him out here in the middle of the day. He's holding lemons of all the things.
"They attract magic, Vampires, werewolves and obviously witches all have magic. The lemons will tell you if there is magic" Bonnie explains.
"So do we just throw these at them?" Damon deadpans, "Or make a lemonade and shove it down their throats."
"These are spelled Damon" she snaps, "They have to step on them."
"What?" he asks, incredulous.
"We have to place them discreetly in their path, so they step on it" she explains.
He grins, "I know the perfect place."
There's a park in mystic falls, they walked through it most days or studied, evenings, weird kids.
So, that is where they go.
It's a Wednesday, so obviously the traffic around it is less. Those two are on time, walking. Lame.
Bonnie finds a bench just on the edge of their vicinity and Damon perches on a tree where the park nearly ends.
"I am telling you this movie is going to be epic" The girl's voice reaches him.
Every other supernatural being in Mystic Falls in running with fangs bared or tail tucked and these two are talking about movies, Psychopaths!
"Of course it's going to be epic" the boy replies, "It's Shankar!"
Who?
They are in the zone, just about to step on those lemons, when...
Padmuh stops and pats Whenkat in his stomach, who looks at her in the confusion Damon is feeling right now.
She points at the lemons, cut in the middle, squeezed lightly and sprayed with brown witchy powder. Which shouldn't mean anything more than an aftermath of some party to normal people. But Whenkat says, "Oops.."
And they completely sidestep the entire lemon trap, chuckling and laughing.
Oh NO!!
They are talking something but Damon can't hear any of it, his brain freezes.
He vamps to Bonnie, who is as shocked as he is.
"How do they know about it?" She asks, more like screams, her eyes wide and her body racking, "It's an old spell Damon... it's very old... they shouldn't know about it."
Damon inhales, tight and deep, he still hasn't lost the habit of it, "They weren't even shocked by it."
What were these two?
~
"So Jonas is Elijah's witch, huh?" Damon quipped lazily sipping bourbon.
Stefan blinked, "Uh.. yeah.. he declared it quite dramatically." It was a tad bit unexpected, okay, it wasn't, he was just being optimistic.
Elena meets Elijah and next day, Mystic falls has Luka and his dad, it was too much of a coincidence.
"You know where I saw papa witch lurking the other day?" Damon asked with a smirk, the one that told Stefan to get himself ready for some mayhem.
"Where?" Stefan drawled, this was so not the time or day or even the year for this. He was still feeling so damn sore.
"Whenkat's house" Damon said with a click of his tongue.
"What?" Why would Jonas visit Whenkat's house? He was a witch, Elijah's witch, apparently. What would he want from a human?
"I can see the cogs turning in your head little brother." Damon snarks, "They've already turned and chimed in my head."
Oh wow, his brother is in a mood. A good one.
(âïž this emoji showed up here and I cackled)
"So the time is?" Stefan indulges...
"Midnight" Damon says more like plays, "they're Elijah's lackeys."
"Wut?" Whaaaat??? Has his brother finally gone insane?
"The facts support it Stefan" Damon retorts.
"Which are?" Stefan asks, too tired of this shit already.
Damon gulps, puts his glass aside and straightens his shirt.
"Should I get you a whiteboard and a marker?" Stefan quips.
"Don't push it point dexter" Damon bites.
He pours himself another glass of bourbon and Stefan's beginning to crave a glass too, of vervain!
"So" A voice that sounds like Fred from sponge bob goes 'Oh brotherrrr, this guy sucks' and Stefan agrees, kinda, his brother however barrels his theory, "firstly, they're strange, don't do the regular teenage stuff, do rituals, take vervain, spit vervain, hoard Vervain, are aware of ancient witchy spells, knew when to skip something so they don't get any dirt on them, knew when shit would go down and well are too happy for a teen in mystic falls."
Stefan sighed, and was about to tell his brother how stupid this entire thing was, but he cut him off-
"Look they're clearly supernatural, Katherine avoided them, Anna didn't know them, tomb vampires didn't mess with them and now Elijah's witch is in kahoots with them" Damon cocker his brow, "they have been here so long, they're playing the long con."
Stefan sighed, again, "I don't think they're Elijah's lackeys, but we should keep an eye on them."
Damon smiled, that I get what I want no matter what smile, "Assemble the scooby gang tomorrow morning... we'll go over the notes."
Stefan rolled his eyes and walked away, he was wise like that.
He dredged up the stairs feeling every sore muscle and aching bone in body, god he thought the human blood would solve this. Guess he still needs more.
As he is cursing his eternal existence, he hears his brother's voice, "You're sure that you didn't even get nipped by any of the werewolves right?"
Stefan lolls his head dramatically to look back at Damon, who continues, "Maybe the animal blood healed the bite faster, because it's from the same kingdom and the venom has already spread..."
Stefan just looks at him, as he climbs the stairs.
"Maybe they clawed you" Damon murmurs.
"Shut up Damon" Stefan replies.

Mystic Falls High Part 1 I honestly do not know what I am doing ~~~~~ "Paddd...muh...nee" "Padhumanidhi Sundarrajan" I blurted
Mystic Falls High
Part 1
I honestly do not know what I am doing
~~~~~
"Paddd...muh...nee"
"Padhumanidhi Sundarrajan" I blurted stopping the counselor from making my ears bleed, "I am the new transfer student."
"Yeah that's what I said" she muttered, "You are signed up for...?"
I take a deep breath, "AP biology, Integrated Math, Racket Sports, Theatre, Drawing and Painting, AP World history, French and AP Literature."
I knew it by heart because each subject was hand picked. Ivy league here I come.
She flippantly gives me a form, "fill out your club applications."
I smiled. Tightly,
I look through it, I need to pick a minimum of two and I know exactly what they are, I eagerly fill the applications for Photography and chess. I wanted to pick films, but previous experiences have thought me that film clubs in US are not fun at all.
Chess has Asians and Indians, whichever little population of them this back water town has.
I submit my forms and take my schedule with a smile. Inside I'm shaking.
I'm wearing a short red kurta and jeans, I have simple bracelet, two gold earrings, a small miniscule bottu and my hair is plaited into a single messy braid. I wore two until last year, but I'm 17 now, so I'll wear a single braid. But that still gets me a few weird looks.
Thankfully, I have my earphones and my ipod, A birthday gift. Yeno Yeno from Aadhavan soothes my nerves as I scramble to my history class.
The teacher is late.
Apparently he's new too so he begins to introduce himself.
"ALARIC SALTZMAN"
The name on the board reads, then he begins to explain how to pronounce his name and honestly I wish I could do that.
But it would be of no use.
I sigh and gear up for a busy day.
~
A week later
I am at school, everyone is dressed up, I am wearing a hoodies and my hair is a bun. Everyone is going to the dance, I am going to the chess club. Because today is the last day to 'officiate' my membership by showing up. I didn't even have time until now and now it bit me in the ass.
It's not that I was missing the dance. My mum would have barely allowed, I would have been so out of place. It's just that.. I feel like a creepy stalker.
I navigate around the halls and rooms, trying my best to not be seen.
I just need to dump these books in my locker. Take my Ipod and go to the club. Someone had stayed behind today for me... because there was a dance, it was officially school hours. It was a rare chance and I should make use of it.
Determined I walk into the empty hallway.
And.. immediately regret it.
Two, decidedly hot but also kind of creepy guys are right at the end of hall standing at the entrance to the small eatery with the vending machine.
The guy who is good at history, Stefan... I remind myself and another guy. He's older and creepier.
And they....
are both looking at me.
Vary.
It lights up my nerves on fire.
"Padmuh" Stefan asks. Oh god he knows my name, that's how he butchered it so well. I'm going to die. This is so awkward.
"Yeah?" I answer fidgeting.
"This is like shady parts of a city right now, what are you doing here?" the man asking is smiling but I know that it's not an innocent question at all. I can sense it. I just don't know why.
"Uhhh" I mutter, my lip curling in confusion, "this is my locker." I point at it. What is happening?
"Padmuh" Stefan starts again, ugh, that is not my name, "Why didn't you go to the decade dance?"
Am I being interrogated?
"It's just everyone is there.." he elaborates.
"Oh I couldn't go... I have work" I explain.
He nods.
I walk to my locker. The other one is staring at me, Stefan smacks him and he stops and turns to look at him. I shove my books in the locker. I take my ipod and walk away from there like I'm running away from an animal.
The entire time I could feel someone's eyes on me.
The experience grates on me and I drag my tired body to the club. I just want some peace and quiet until I finish this.
I step in and there is music... blaring...
"Devudaaa..
(Oh god)
Naa mathi chedipoyenu poorthiga,
(My mind has completely gone to ruin)
Ayanaa..."
(Yet)
(Noppi noppi song from Pokiri 2006)
Well at least it's not some rock garbage, it's a good song. I step in to the club room. With a strained smile that says 'touch me and I'll kill you.'
There is a single boy in the classroom and... he is Indian.
"Baagundhi haay-"
(It feels good-)
He pauses the song listening to my steps and goes rigid. The strain leaves a little from my smile. He looks up and relaxes. He stands up and awkwardly extends his hand, my smile is not strained anymore.
"Hey"
"Hey"
I shake his hand, "Padhumanidhi Sundarrajan! Call me Padhma"
"Venkat Ghattamaneni" he follows.
"A telugu guy huh?" I ask, he gives a 'yeah' with a smile and I follow with, "I'm a tamilian."
"You're the only one here?"Â I ask as we both sit down by something that looks like a table. I take out my bottle and start drinking some water.
"There were two other members, one transferred and the other..."
"Left?"
"Died!"
I spit out the water I was drinking and coughed. He laughed dryly despite himself and gently patted on my head.
"I was not expecting that!" I said still sputtering.
He sighed, "It was an animal attack, I wasn't in town... I didn't even know her name."
"Hmm" I hummed in thought, "sorry though."
We had nothing better to do... so we talked.
He told me that he had started living in the town three months prior. But was out of town for a week. His father's friend/colleague's daughter's wedding.
He'd just got back.
I told him I moved here a week ago.
That I missed my country and I missed my elder sister. She'd gotten into Yale.
He told me had an elder sister, she got into IIM and was back home.
He missed her terribly.
We had history, theatre, racket sports, integrated math and French together.
"Wait you were going to stay at the Salvatore boarding house?" He asked surprised.
"Yeah" I said with a chuckle, "We didn't find a house yet, the motels weren't good at all. But it cost an arm and a leg and my mum got really bad vibes."
"I am even surprised that you got to talk to someone in the house" he chuckled, "The guy from history, Stefan, I assume you know him, he's really good. He lives there apparently and they don't get customers. Like at all!"
"Wow" I exclaimed, "Good thing my dad asked around before trying to check in."
"Yeah... Good thing" he agreed.
Soon the session ended, we absolutely did nothing.
Then my dad called, he'd come to pick me up. By this time the school was already empty.
He was waiting at the entrance with an umbrella.
He smiled as soon as he saw me and I smiled back. It was a mild drizzle but I still got under the umbrella.
"How was the session ma?" He asked holding me around my shoulders.
"Semma pa" I grinned, "I made a friend."
(It was great)
Venkat had come out too. He was wearing a rain coat over his jacket.
I showed him to my dad.
My dad waved.
"Vanakkam uncle" he waved back, "I'm Venkat."
(Hello)
I cocked my brows in shock.
"My mum is half Tamilian... So, I'm quarter Tamilian" he explains with a smirk.
I look to my dad and smile, "Avuna sare ayithe..."
(Oh okay then)
This time he is shocked.
"My atha married a Telugu guy when I was 7" I explain.
Then a car pulls up behind ours and he goes, "that's my father."
A man around my dad's age gets out of the car also wearing a rain coat.
My dad and him exchange a hello and something about the roads in the town.
~
Around two weeks later
Venkat's family had come over to ours for dinner. My mum and his mum connected as the only Indian aunties in the entire town.
We lived in the same street, a few houses apart.
So, we were neighbors and to be family friends.
"Ma... can me and Venkat go for a walk while you guys talk?" I plead.. no beg.
She gives me a stern smile, "Walk where?"
"Just out" I say in a small voice, trying to give her puppy eyes.
"Don't go out of town" She says.
I nod dutifully and then walk out with a smile to my dad and Venkat's parents.
Venkat does the same and follows me out.
We lived on the near edge of the town, so it was more like don't go out of the block.
"So, where should we go?" he askes me just as we're out of the house.
"You're the host" I answer, "to this walk.. you should decide"
"Remember that Salvatore boarding house?"
"Hmm hmm"
"It's right around the lane" he reveals, "we could walk until the property, look at what gave your mother bad vibes and come back."
"Sure" I chirp.
We start on the way, "So, how's the town?" he asks.
"It's okay" I answer.
"Okay as in I am getting used to it and it's gonna be great or I hate it but I have to get used to it" he asks with a mischievous smile.
I mirror it and answer, "One of those."
He laughs. I join him.
"It's just that it's so different from India, from home, this town doesn't even have a theatre" I whine, "it might have a prissy theatre but it's not gonna play any Indian movies."
"You like movies?" he asks. "A lot" I answer, "Especially Indian movies. You don't?"
"I looove them" he almost purrs.
"There's this new movie coming out" I say, enthusiasm filling me, "It's a Telugu movie. You probably know it."
"Which one?" he asks, curious and excited.
I think for it's telugu name, then it strikes me, "Magadheera" I announce.
"Ohh" he mirrors my excitement, "I am madly waiting for it."
"But how do we watch it" I dampen the mood, "it's not gonna play around here."
"It will play in Cincinnati" he points out, "it's a few hours from here."
"My parents will never agree" I say rolling my eyes.
"Well neither will mine" he joins in, "but we could ask nicely. There's a train."
"One can try" I cave into his hope, "how do we do it?"
"Sudden perfect grades, chores.. what else?" He schemes.
"That should do it" I confirm, "We'll see if it works."
We're about to enter the property and we can see the boarding house from here.
"Ta da" he says pointing at it.
"That" I mutter, "is definitely haunted."
"I know right" he chuckles.
Then we hear it. A strange rustle with a rush of air, it's not human.
Then it happens again, and..
"Jai hanuman gyan guna sagar, jai kapeesha tihun loka ujaagar
Rama dhoota athulitha baladhama, anjani putra pavana sutanamaa"
(Hanuman Chalisa)
(Hail hanuman who is an ocean of knowledge, who is from the kapi clan and who is known in all three worldsâŠ
Ramaâs messenger, strong beyond comprehension, the son of anjana and the heir of the god of wind.)
Venkat nearly screams, I look at him ready to laugh, but he is completely serious and gesturing at me to move. So,
"Mahaveera vikrama Bajrangi, Kumati Nivaara Sumati Ke Sangi
Kanchan varsna viraaja Subesaa, Kanan kundal kunchit kesa"
(Greatest of warriors, valiant as thunder, friend to the good and exterminator of the bad)
I sing with him as we kind of, no, definitely ran from there.
We're at "Raghupati Kinhi Bahut Badaai, Tum Mama Priya Bharata Sama Bhaii" by the time we reach the road and then he stops, so I stop.
(Rama gave you the greatest praise, âyou are as dear to me as my dear brother bharatâ)
Then I start laughing while I am panting and he's just panting.
"Did you seriously just scream Hanuman Chalisa?" I ask him, incredulous and near hysteric.
"I did not scream it" he says, weakly.
I laugh some more.
"It worked didn't it" he points out.
"That it did!"
~
What on God's Green earth was that?
Damon has been alive for lot more than a century and this is the first time, he had seen such a reaction when he preys on someone.
He was so weirded out that he didn't even eat them.
"Only in mystic falls" he muttered as he vamped back to boarding house.
"Found anything" Stefan asked now changed from the shirt Frederick stabbed him in, but still wincing and favoring the side.
"This is exactly why I tell you to drink people blood"Â he pointed out again.
Stefan gives him a bitch face. Well your loss baby brother, just don't bleed on my carpet again, just don't bleed again.
"No sign of any tomb vamps" he says, then pauses, considers.
"but?" Stefan asks, "There is a but, I feel that but."
"I saw that girl from the other day" I confess.
"Padmuh?" he asks.
"Yeah she was with an Indian boy" I continue.
"Whenkat?" He asks again.
"You know him?" I ask him back, I could do with information like that.
"How many 17 year old high school going Indian boys are there in this town?" He deadpans.
"Well something is weird about them" I brush him off, "I tried to scare them..."
"Damon" Stefam admonishes.
"They were on the property, right after two vampires tired to attack us unprovoked on a perfectly good evening" I droll the dangers into his dense head.
"They were on the property?" Stefan asks puzzled.
"Just outside" what does it matter duh! "The point is they're suspicious. The boy came into town with you and the girl came into town with Alaric. They might be working with Noah!"
"Damon" Stefan whines, "they both have families. They are perfectly normal. They-"
"How are they in school?" I cut him off.
Stefan rolls his eyes. Rude, "Well they're polite, nice. They're very studious and have strict parents. They mostly keep to themselves though."
"We saw her right after the dance being all sketchy. They weren't at the dance. They weren't at the desirable bachelor thing."
"Because it was for people in mid 20s like you... there were rarely any kids present" he counters again.
"Well then explain this brother... the day I didn't get Katherine out of tomb... every stupid child in the town was at Dull or Duke or whatever's party. Except for them" Damon presents fool proof evidence.
"Strict parents Damon"Â Stefan drawls.
"I still think they're fishy... they don't act like regular students" I emphasise.
"They're not regular students" Stefan points out, "both are emigrants and exchange students."
Yeah sure Sherlock
~
Hindsight is such a bitch.
Stefan is now an anti therapeutic punching bag and he needs Van Helsing ripoff and little miss Katniss to get him out.
He manages to goad the hunter/teacher into helping them. He shows them stuff he had specifically brought to kill Damon and oh goodie how useful.
They each stock themselves and come up with a fool proof contingency plan.
Well it's not fool proof but he doesn't have the time for it.
I exit the room, Alaric and Elena on my heels and there she is.
The suspicious girl from other night.
She doesn't look like a hermit this time but she shouldn't even be here.
When he's making a plan to get his vampnapped brother out.
I give a smile which is actually a sneer and she clutches the books in her hands tight as if they could offer any protection.
Alaric jumps in, unnecessarily, "Padmuh... what are you doing here? It's not a school day.."
"Mr Saltzman" she greets him, then continues, "Ms Jones asked me if to help her with a project for extra credit."
She looks at Elena and fidgets.
I roll my eyes with a sigh. Have we learned nothing?
"Were you eavesdropping on us? Answer truthfully" I compel her.
"Damon" I hear Elena... Gee Elena, it's not like we have the clock ticking to a rescue and cannot risk any failures.
"Chiii" the girl exclaims, uhm, then she continues, "why would I ever do that?"
(Ewww)
"Well then I want you to forget this conversation" I compel again.
"I want that too, I'll try" she replies with barely hidden disdain.
You'll what...
"I'm sorry, we were just doing some founder's business" Elena covers immediately. Ooh clever.
Except she's on Vervain Elena.
"Yeah no problem" she says in a rush and sidesteps me.
Before I can act, "We need to go" Elena drags me ahead.
"She's on Vervain" I hiss.
"We can worry about that later"Â she hisses back.
"Paagal Saale" I hear a murmur. Is she hexing us?
(Lunatic bitch)
But I feel nothing and I don't have time for this now. So, I comply.
~
Founders day rolls around and hell breaks loose.
Damon is still greedily gulping his blood bag. He reeks of ash and smoke and hates it with every fibre of being.
He feels Stefan's eyes on him and that grates him even more.
"What were you doing down there?" he manages to ask. He knew Stefan wasn't down there, he'd checked, it was the first thing he did.
"Saving your ass" comes the answer.
"Why?" he wants to know.
"You're my brother... Go Figure" Nonchalance huh brother it doesn't suit you.
He doesn't even say it out loud. Just gives a listless smile.
"That went so well" someone squeals and they both become alert.
'Went well?' what kind of diabolical-
"We should do that again" some else says and they're bloody chuckling and he wants to snap their neck.
"Who was that?" he grates, "Someone from council?"
"Has to be" Stefan says, the tomb vampires are all dead after all.
"We should plan it better though" he can hear it better now and he knows it's a girl and he's heard her before.
"Yeah it got quite late" the other one's a boy and he's heard him too.
"Yeah well..." the rest turns into garble as a taxi stops by them.
"Padmuh" Stefan realises, "and Whenkat!"
They're too weak and slow to follow them now, "We've got to deal with them."
"Damon" Stefan chides.
"You heard them" Damon hisses, "they had a plan, it went well... who knows what they did!"
~
"So... we watched Magadheera" Padhma squeals into her phone, "Akka it was so good."
(Big sister)
"Wow" Maitreyi, her sister replies equally enthusiastic, "You sound like you enjoyed it a lot. How was Cincinnati?"
"It was okay" she answered, "better than this backwater town."
"I wish we could have watched it together" Maitreyi says with a small whine.
"Next time come to Cincinnati" she suggests.
"Or I'll take you all to New York" Maitreyi counters.
"Brilliant" she chirps.
They chat for a few more minutes before hanging up, she comes down to the living hall.
Her parents are talking about something seriously.
"Ma" she asks tentatively, "everything okay? How was the celebration?"
"It was great kanna" her mother answers, "but there was an accident. The mayor died."
(Sweetheart)
"Oh" her eyes widen in shock, "that's so sad."
"Yeah" her father sighs, patting her shoulder, "We're all going to the memorial tomorrow."
"Should we take anything?" her mother ponders.
"Lasagna, apparently" Her father answers.
"That is so weird" her mom says and they all chuckle.
How very morbid!
~
"Hey there's Tyler" Venkat says taking a sip of water, everything else is alcoholic here and their parents would kill us if they as much as drank a glass. They're at the memorial, the entire town is.
Their parents are talking to other adults and after the formalities, here they are, in the garden.
"Oh yeah" Padhma ponders, "should we go say hi?"
"We don't even know the guy" He points out.
"It's a minimum curtesy" She counters.
Their argument comes to moot when he walks inside the house, away from the crowd with a guy who just arrived, must be a relative.
"Well" he smirks. She shakes her head. The she smiles.
"Oh hey there's coffee" she chirps. He perks up, "Now you don't have to worry about feeding only water to your manly body."
"I never said that" he says abashed.
"No?" she teases. She picks up a cup of it, with a straw in the lid and hands it to him. He takes it with a tip of an absent hat.
He sips it and immediately spits it out.
Padhma looks at him startled, then looks around embarrassed. He collects himself and stops sputtering. They both look around before he puts the cup aside.
She clicks her tongue and rolls her eyes, "Wow!"
He raises his finger to point in his defense, "It was hot and there was no milk. Why are they serving espressos at a funeral?"
"Would you prefer they served Iced caramel lattes?" she asks with a huff.
"As a matter of fact" he answers, "yes!"
~
"No" This idiot. We watched it all happen, they're frolicking chatting something we can't catch and he's still in denial.
"Stefan, listen" Damon implores despite himself, "he took a sip of coffee and spit it out. The coffee has vervain in it. That's exhibit 1, Exhibit 2... the other day I couldn't compel her. Exhibit 3, she was being shady in an empty hallway. You were right there, Exhibit 4-"
"Damon" Stefan sighs, "you're spiraling. The other day you were convinced that they were in the council. Now you're convinced he's a vampire and she's a witch. This isn't fanfiction Damon."
"No little brother" Damon drawls, "This is our very real messed up life which is why there are no coincidences. Especially because Katherine is here."
"Fine" Stefan relents, finally, "there's a high school carnival tonight..."
"We'll take care of them there" Damon finishes.
"No" Ugh, Stefan, "We'll investigate."
"Fine" Damon relents, "how do we know they'll show up, given everything they've... skipped?"
"I'll invite them" Stefan answers.
Well...
~
They're, embarrassingly, chuckling like teenagers when Venkat sees Stefan approach them.
"Oh shit" he mutters.
She follows his sight and her eyes widen, she hits him lightly and mumbles, "I told you this wasn't appropriate behavior."
She turns to Stefan who is now standing just a couple feet before them, "We're sorry. We know this is disrespectful."
Surprisingly, he chuckles, "Oh no.. I know funerals can be boring, especially when you know no one."
"Yeah" Venkat nods with a guilty smile, "but we're still sorry."
"Don't worry about it" Stefan says, "I'm not policing you guys."
She gives him a strained smile, he continues, "I was just wondering why you guys didn't show up to the Founder's day celebrations..."
"Oh yeah" she drawls, they skipped it, "We were out of station. Our parents went, initially we were supposed to come too but well our schedules clashed."
"Your schedules clashed?" He asked confused, "What happened?"
"Well" Venkat answered, "We went to Cincinnati to watch a movie."
Stefan looks baffled, "you went to Cincinnati.. to.. watch a movie?"
At the expense of not sounding crazy, Padhma continues, "It's an Indian movie. It doesn't play around here."
"Oh" he almost sighs, "I see. You guys like movies huh?"
Venkat shrugs and Padhma chuckles. "I like them too" he continues.
"Really?" Venkat asks and Padhma follows, "are you in the film club here?"
"No" Stefan says with a dry laugh, "listen there's a school Carnival tonight. I'm sure you know.. are you planning to come?"
"Uhm" she mumbles not knowing what to say.
"You should come" he implores.
"We will come" Venkat answers, "thanks for the invite Stefan."
He nods with a smile, they smile back and he leaves.
"You think they'll agree?" Padhma turns to Venkat.
"Sure they will" Venkat answers, "It's a high school event and we've been on our best behaviour."
~
"Well played Fincher" Damon teases him as soon as he comes back, "smooth."
"We have to find out who the 'they' they were referring to is." Stefan says not playing that game.
"We will" Damon smirks.
~
"This is the worst high school carnival of my life" Damon says phantom dusting his pants.
"This is the only high school carnival of your life" Stefan points out standing beside him.
"Har har Stefan" Damon bites. Stefan smirks.
"So... we've got problems 1,2,3 covered... moving on to problem 4... where are the brown love birds?" Damon quips.
"I did spot them earlier, they were playing some games" Stefan answers, "They should be around."
"Let's go find them" Damon smirks all evil debauchery in glory.
Finding two shifty possibly humans or maybe vampires should be easy for two fine vampires such as the Salvatores.
Except they've combed the entire ground and haven't found a whiff of trace.
"Where are they?" Damon almost shouts, annoyed.
"They'll be here.. they'll be here.." Stefan placates.
"Who are you searching for?" Elena asks them having seen the fuss.
"Have you seen Padmuh and Whenkat?" Stefan asks her, in a 'this is important but don't worry' tone.
"Padmuh and Whenkat?" She asked.
"Yes" Damon hissed, "the Indians."
"They left" she stated.
"They left?" Stefan asked, incredulous.
"Yeah.." she said confused, "something about a curfew."
Stefan looks at Damon, completely exasperated.
"Curfew?!" Damon bites, borderline hysterical, "IT'S 9:30!!"
So we start from Season 2 Episode 3 "Season what?" Stefan asks perplexed. "The squirrels" Caroline replied with a duh, "don't they go
Thereâs a massive crowd actively gaslighting and downplaying what is happening to Bangladeshi hindus rn.
When I shared verified news of hindu temples being targeted and hindu homes being broken into on my blog I was told that itâs all âfalseâ and that Hindus are safe in Bangladesh. I was told that the protesters are only targeting awami league leaders but if this is true then what is the need to burn down hindu temples? Iâve come across several Bangladeshi hindus who are confirming that theyâve faced violence since the past few days.
Burned Iskcon temple:
It isnât just a new phenomenon, the population of hindus has been shrinking in Bangladesh since a long time now -
Itâs the same story in Afghanistan as well as Pakistan-
Within the first day and a half since the fall of Sheikh Hasina-led government, the country witnessed a spate of violence, specifically targ
I wish I could upload more pictures and videos that Iâve on my phone.
P.s itâs also true that not everyone is facing trouble but quite a few are. People should refrain from making blanket statements. Not all Hindus are safe. There are factual reports of temples being burned down. Stop trying to silence the voices that are speaking about these things.
mfs love it when countries and communities decolonize themselves and embrace their culture which was lost to british (or any european country's) colonization. but as soon as it's india decolonizing from both british AND mughal colonization they're pissed.
This makes me so so soooo fucking angry I canât be tamed. These people will fall to any level to make my religion look bad. Fucking shameless.
Now that some of my anger is out, lets get into this:
Shree Laxmi wasnât given to gods, she isnât a goddamn cattle animal like Kamdhenu, and the demons and gods respected her wishes as a supposed human being to choose either side. She chose devas, not because she was partial against the asuras, but because a) sheâs the universal mother, she knows everything that goes on, including which side has bad intentions and which one will use her powers for the good, and b) she chose to be with her eternal Lover/Husband Shree Narayan, and since he was on the devaâs side (aka the good side), she was with them by default.
The fact that literal demons had more respect for her than our secular writer over here, *sigh*
The elixer was given to gods because it was to restore their powers? Like, you know, the ones that were taken away from them? Why the frick would the lord allow Demons to have elixir when he knows they donât have any good intents? They are literally evil, and protecting against evil is like godâs whole job ffsđ€Šđ»ââïž
Literally no one in Mahabharata except Shree Krishna is purely good, get that through your fucking thick skulls. Thatâs the entire point, you learn what you do from Ramayan and what not to do from Mahabharat. And the Hidamba Mataâs (aka the Danvi whose name you didnât bother researching, great work đđŒ) backstory is never discussed in detail, neither is Ghatotkach. For all you know, the pregnancy could have been hidden from him, atleast thatâs what their first meeting shows. So if you plan on demonising sex, you proved no motive here.
âOhh, Ravan never did anything wrong, bas kidnap hi to kiya tha akeli nari ka.â Is such a sad argument tbh, yâall literally see no issue with kidnapping and terrifying a women over your own sisterâs lose character? What a shame. âHe never touched her.â Social distancing se kidnap kiya tha kya bhenchod? He never touched her sexually you mean, not because he was a saint of a man, but because he was a verified rapist with a blue check. He had raped his own to be niece in law and was cursed by his nephew that raping another woman would lead to his death. He literally threatened to cook Devi Sita and eat her up if she didnât submit. Another reason he didnât touch her was because if he had touched her, It would be Jankiayan instead of Ramayan because she would fucking kill him before you all can blink.
âHe humiliated her on more than one occasionâ is a very sneaky way to say two occasions so that the number can be inflated, eh?
The first occasion: Calling her names so that she will submit herself to agni out of spite and emerge unharmed, which literally everyone condemned, including the loyal brother Lakshman who rebelled against his own brother (for whose wake he would pick up a sword against everyone , mind you) because he dared disrespect a woman like Maa Sita, and even Hanumanji whoâs Shri Ramâs biggest, and I mean biggest devotee. Literally no one stood by Sitaâs humiliation, and it was later revealed by Shri Ram that the act was staged by the him so that she can have an excuse to perform agni pravesh so that no lecherous person would dare point a finger at her in future. Even the shlokas say he did it so that no one would suspect his wifeâs character. And before you say Shri Ram was âsaving faceâ, one of his plus points as mentioned is that he doesnât lie throughout the entire story, so think again. Yâall really think he spent the entire story worrying for her safety only to insult her in the end?
You think Seeta would have anyone humiliate her once and give them a chance for a second humiliation? Ohhh you dead wrong!
Second occasion: Shree Raghuvar sending Maa Sita to exile, which is a very infamously known interpolation denounced by many. So he only âinsultedâ her once and that too in a staged act. One of the shlokas he uses to coax his peers after agni pariksha is that a woman like her can never be denounced by him, and like I said, he never lies, soooâŠâŠ :P
Shree Ram decietfully killed Bali because Bali was a foe who could not be fought face to face? Do you even Know the story of Bali? Do you know he was such a bad guy he literally took his brotherâs wife like she was property? Ugh, I canât.
Guru Drona didnât accept Eklavya not because he was âTribalâ, but because he had promised his loyalty to the Bharatvansh Clan. Had even Shree Krishna gone to him asking for training, he would have refused. Eklavyaâs tribal background was never discussed in this context.
(Also sidenote to my followers but isnât it funny how despite Eklavya having to lose his thumb Guru Dronaâs boon to Arjun wasnât fulfilled because he still couldnât surpass Bhagwaan Ramchandra as the greatest bowman? Khaya piya kuchh nahi, paap sar chadhaya barah aana XD)
I mean, God really out to set a limit to hypocrisy now because the more I see these people the more I disagree with Modiji ki Hypocrisy ki seema hai. Agar hai bhi to ye namune kaise long jump krke laanhg rhe h unhe, oof.
THIS Exactly this
