A lotta people seem to think that it either sucked ass or was a beautiful perfect piece of fiction, but in my opinion it was neither. A lot of criticism for the show in general was that it focused too much on Jax, a lot of characters weren’t focused on enough, and the ending was anticlimactic. The people who say it’s amazing point out the emotional impact it has on the viewers, as well as the beautiful animation and (mostly) happy ending. Those are all good points, and you’re free to have your own opinion on the show, but I want to share mine, and my opinion on the show is that it’s a good show, but by no means a great one
I agree that Jax probably got too much screen time. He’s a very controversial character, and making him one of, if not the most relevant characters in the show was a bold choice that many fans would have changed. A lot of fans seem to think that he might have actually ruined the show. As someone who really doesn’t like Jax and thinks that the other characters should’ve gotten more screen time, I don’t think it’s fair to say that he’s the source of the problem with tadc. I think the pilot episode led the fans to think that every character would get an equal amount of screen time and depth. While every character is certainly an interesting and compelling one, Jax was given the spotlight, and many fans do not like that, including me. However, I don’t dislike it because I think it was out of place or uncharacteristic for the show to do that. I just think that it would have been more fair and better for the story in general. I wasn’t ever expecting Jax to become or to be a character as important and highlighted character as Pomni, so my disappointment with just how much screen time was probably just caused by an idea I had and held onto for the entire show, and when the show deviated and DID make Jax a main character too, I was disappointed. However, thats kind of my fault for expecting sometimes of the show that was never stated, and I think a lot of fans would agree that we had an idea of what the show would be, but when what actually happened was different, we were left a little disappointed.
I did have other problems with the finale besides thinking that Jax had too much screen time and he shouldn’t have had the spotlight. Maybe Im just a dumbass but like how tf did Caine get back to the circus? Like I understand the analogies to leaving behind the egotistical and problematic aspect of his character in bubble, but like, my goat bubble is now GONE. The best character in the show just went POOF! wtf man my goat bubble deserved better 😭
I also found the ending kinda sappy and boring. Like “oh we went through all the trouble of trying to find an exit with Abel but now that that didn’t work out, womp womp i guess!” And the whole point of their brain scans trapped in the circus while they’re actually living their own lives felt kind of pointless. Like buddy, you are well aware that the person Caine is showing u is not you, right? Well I mean it is, but why did Caine think that showing them how good they could have had it and how good their life could have been outside the circus would be a good idea? Man if I saw that Im living my best life outside the circus I wouldn’t be happy I’d be pissed! I’d be legitimately crashing out >:(
I did like the finale overall, but I think it had too many flaws for me to absolutely love it. I think the show in general was good, but not great. Anyone who expected an absolutely legendary and jaw dropping finale were probably disappointed, but the show for me was never that good. I mean it was entertaining, and I like the overall message of finding meaning in an unchanging life, but you can’t compare it to like Breaking Bad you know? There are some good shows, and then there are some AMAZING shows. Though it literally has amazing in the title, for me it wasn’t just good, and Im okay with that. I don’t expect every show I watch to be absolute cinema or anything Im perfectly fine watching a simply good shows.
