Okay lemme explain

I don’t think it’s bad to love a character who does evil things, but when people try to justify even their worst actions and behaviors I just have to wonder, why? It’s perfectly fine to love an evil character or someone who has done evil things, but why do some people try to act like they are an innocent baby who has done no wrong? Do they not know how to appreciate a morally grey character?

A good example of this is Pierrot from tfc. People act like he’s just a sweetheart who desperately wants mc to fall for him. That is a valid take on his character, but a lot of people dismiss the terrible shit he has done. He killed a woman who literally just calls you lazy and the cafe you work at a dump. I mean she probably just needed her morning coffee to function like wtf 😭 He also drugs you and kidnaps you if you try to leave the circus. Y’all cannot be serious when you say “my innocent baby Pierrot” because did we genuinely play the same game?!?

Look I love Pierrot just as much as the next person. I mean I literally yumeship with him, but I would never try to claim that he is an “innocent baby that can do no wrong.” That kind of view on a character takes away a lot of the complexity they have, and it makes me think that some people just genuinely don’t know how to appreciate a morally grey character. I could bring up a lot more characters that get justified or defended for their terrible actions by their fans but I’ve ranted long enough.

I want to clarify that Im not talking about people who are just calling characters who have done terrible things innocent for shits and giggles Im talking about the people who genuinely think that their favorite morally grey character is perfect and has no flaws whatsoever.

I also want to clarify that I fucking love Pierrot and I love Pierrot and did I mention I love Pierrot? So no Im not just a hater I love tfc and morally grey characters in general i just see a lot of people getting way to comfortable justifying actions of their favorite character that should absolutely NOT be justified 😭

Anyways just wanted to share my thoughts. Kinda felt the need to write this after I saw someone say that the Karen in tfc deserved to die and Pierrot was in the right 😭

their older designs — httyd1, rod and dob were much grittier, much more like VIKINGS. they weren't meant to be pleasing to the eye, they had faults. like Astrid's big ears, thinner hair and less noticeable eyelashes. Hiccups rounder chin, freckles and such. snotlouts more upturned nose. and before anyone says "ohh but they grew up!! they're not gonna look the same!!" YOU DON'T GROW OUT OF ALL YOUR IMPERFECT TRAITS?? your big ears aren't gonna magically shrink, your crooked teeth aren't gonna magically gonna straighten and whiten themselves, your freckles aren't gonna magically disappear. and not only that, but in the second and third movie their skin texture is like, gone?? why are they SHINY??

but now that i’m more into the fandom and more in depth watching the movies i see that he was just weak to the power of the ring.
