Tumblr has a lot of cool free themes that you can play with code, meet your aesthetic choices, and display content the way you’d like to see it! (You can also make MANY side blogs to organise your fandoms, interests, projects, and so on- and they’re ALL on the one tumblr account you create!) - Why are tags ‘like that’? Tags are for many things-  finding works, certain fandoms, niches that you’re in to. They also act as a tool for organising on your own blogs (so that you can archive and find things easier!) or even as content warnings for certain subjects out of your norms as a blogger (CW: Blood for example). You’ll also see them used for ‘extra commentary’ from other blogs-! A fun treat and quiet gesture to add to works that you reblog from. Sometimes, even fun stories hide in them!

Think about this. This is our current capitalist economy at work. It is working as intended and designed by those who benefit from it.

“I made a comment recently where I claimed that Republican administrations had been much more criminally corrupt over the last 50 plus years than the Democrats. I was challenged (dared actually) to prove it. So I did a bit of

research and when I say a bit I mean it didn’t take long and there is no comparison.

When comparing criminal indictments of those serving in the executive branch of presidential administrations, it’s so lopsided as to be ridiculous. Yet all I ever hear about is how supposedly “corrupt” the Democrats are. So why don’t we break it down by president and the numbers?

Obama (D) – 8 yrs in office. Zero criminal indictments, zero convictions and zero prison sentences. So the next time somebody describes the Obama administration as “scandal free” they aren’t speaking wishfully, they’re simply telling the truth.

Bush, George W. (R) – 8 yrs in office. 16 criminal indictments. 16 convictions. 9 prison sentences.

Clinton (D) – 8 yrs in office. 2 criminal indictments. One conviction. One prison sentence. That’s right nearly 8 yrs of investigations. Tens of millions spent and 30 yrs of claiming them the most corrupt ever

and there was exactly one person convicted of a crime.

Bush, George H. W. (R) – 4 yrs in office. One indictment. One conviction. One prison sentence.

Reagan (R) – 8 yrs in office. 26 criminal indictments. 16 convictions. 8 prison sentences.

Carter (D) – 4 yrs in office. One indictment. Zero convictions and zero prison sentences.

Ford (R) – 4 yrs in office. One indictment and one conviction. One prison sentence.

Nixon (R) – 6 yrs in office. 76 criminal indictments. 55 convictions. 15 prison sentences.

Johnson (D) – 5 yrs in office. Zero indictments. Zero convictions. Zero prison sentences.

So, let’s see where that leaves us. In the last 53 years, Democrats have been in the Oval Office for 25 of those years, while Republicans held it for 28. In their 25 yrs in office Democrats had a total of three executive branch officials indicted with one conviction and one prison sentence. That’s one whole executive branch official convicted

of a crime in two and a half decades of Democrat leadership.

In the 28 yrs that Republicans have held office over the last 53 yrs they have had a total of (a drum roll would be more than appropriate), 120 criminal indictments of executive branch officials. 89 criminal convictions and 34 prison sentences handed down. That’s more prison sentences than years in office since 1968 for Republicans. If you want

to count articles of impeachment as indictments (they aren’t really but we can count them as an action), both sides get one more. However, Clinton wasn’t found guilty while Nixon resigned and was pardoned by

Ford (and a pardon carries with it a legal admission of guilt on the part of the pardoned). So those only serve to make Republicans look even worse.

With everything going on with Trump and his people right now, it’s a safe bet Republicans are gonna be padding their numbers a bit real soon.

So let’s just go over the numbers one more time, shall we? 120 indictments for Republicans. 89 convictions, and 34 prison sentences. Those aren’t “feelings” or “alternate facts.” Those are simply the stats by the numbers. Republicans are, and have been for my entire lifetime, the most criminally corrupt party to hold the office of the presidency.

So those are the actual numbers. Feel free to copy and paste!”

What the FUCK is going on?

The bill is stating ANYONE convicted of a protest-related charge (even if it is not related to actual lawbreaking like vandalism, looting or violence) will not only NOT get federal financial aid such as unemployment benefits but also will have to pay restitution to the law agency that arrested them on top of standard conviction/court fees

Indiana please vote, call, and write your local representatives to stop this from going through because the next step is a law agency attacking a peaceful protest for no reason other than anyone who defends themselves will have to pay them money

VOTE YOUR WHOLE BALLOT.

A Democratic President does nothing if Congress is controlled by Republicans. Your local elections are important, too. (It took us 20 years, but you notice we don’t have issues with our sheriff out here in Phoenix now we’ve voted out Joe Arpaio.)

Here’s a list of other programs. Keep posting till it’s widely known.

Young voters are less likely to vote partly because people who haven’t voted loads of times before don’t know where to go and what to do. But! You can know those things! And lbr, if you wait until Tuesday morning that’s less likely to happen, so: 

Make yourself a voting plan! 

Including: 

1) What you’re voting on: Check your sample ballot! This gives you a rundown of what’s on your ballot so you know before you go. It’s okay to leave things blank if you’re not sure how you want to vote on every race or issue! You can also pick candidates based on party affiliation - not perfect, but gives you a general idea, and it’s usually enough to know who you’re voting against. Or for a super easy quick overview go to VoteSmart and check who’s endorsed your candidates (under “ratings”), bc if the NRA (or ACLU or HRC) gives someone 100% (or 0%), that tells you a lot. 

1a) If you’re probably not gonna remember everyone you liked, write down your choices on a piece of paper because some states won’t let you have your phone. 

2) Where and when to vote: find your polling place! 

3) How to get there: Loads of cities and companies will give you a free or discounted ride there (not always back though so double check that!), and so will the Democratic party in a lot of places - search for your county’s Democratic party for their ride-share program. Also: public transit, carpooling with friends, checking if local community or religious groups/centers are giving rides, walking or driving yourself if you can.

4) What to bring: find out here!

5) What to do once there: Usually there’s a table where you check in and give your name (and sometimes ID, sigh) so they can give you your ballot and check you off the list of people who have voted. Like this:

Vaquita (Phocoena sinus)

Back to a commissioned, and much more recent illustration: the oh-so-troubled vaquita. It’d been exactly three years and a week since I last painted a vaquita. Back then there were still an estimated 150 of them around. Recently the Porpoise Conservation Society asked me to paint some more vaquitas, and now there are less than 30 left. It’s scary how quickly this species is dwindling. The vaquita’s fate is entangled with that of another critically endangered species, the Totoaba fish (Totoaba macdonaldi). Their swim bladders are prised in China because of an alleged medicinal value. Totoaba swim bladders are similar to that of a Chinese species, the Chinese bahaba (Bahaba taipingensis), and now replace it on the market after the bahaba has been hunted to near extinction. Swim bladders fetch a very high price, so the poor fishermen keep fishing, despite formal bans on setting nets in the vaquita’s range.

The latest plans to capture some of the remaining vaquitas and keep (and hopefully breed) them in human care, until their home range is safe to be inhabited again, did not work out and have been halted. Strategies are currently under discussion and revision.

They’re in a difficult situation, these little desert porpoises. While sharing progress shots with the commissioner, he remarked that I might just be capturing these details for the last time before the species disappears forever. It’s a hard and sad possibility to face. Nevertheless, in an attempt to put a somewhat positive spin on this otherwise depressing description; those details were also what made this a joy to paint. Despite their somewhat smudgy brown appearance, Vaquitas actually have very complex but subtle markings. Some animals are even spotted on their underside. They’re a more beautiful species than I had ever imagined.
