Customer Service Problems

My first and second retail jobs were some of the worst jobs I have EVER had. My customers were cruel and entitled, and my closest coworkers and managers hated me for no good reason (they were conservatives and they could tell I'm a leftist from the Everything about me even though I didn't say that and I actively tried to get along with everyone). I was fired from the first job and nearly fired from the second one (I quit when they threatened me). I swore I wasn't ever going to work retail again, even if I was desperate.

Flash forward to now, March 2019. I didn't have a job for most of last summer, and when one FINALLY called me back I took it. The pay is better than crap, and I had/have friends who work(ed) there. I was told that it was a good place to work (as long as I wasn't trans, which I'm pretty sure I'm not, or at least I haven't figured it out enough that anyone can tell).

My managers are kind and helpful to me (they're a little shitty to at least one and probably more of my coworkers but I'm poor enough I can't afford to rock the boat much let alone quit a job to make a statement, so I just try to lead by example and be very obvious in front of my managers so they know their shit won't fly with me). My coworkers are FABULOUS, and we even hang out outside of work for fun sometimes. This is the second highest paying job I have ever had. I'm pretty happy here.

I actually ENJOY cashiering here, despite the occasional entitled and rude customer (who are WAY fewer and far between here than at my other jobs 🙄).

I work at a store that has cashiers take balloon orders, we basically have to step away from our register, regardless of a line, and blow them up. Usually if the manager is there and the line isnt too long they’ll just do it themselves or some other worker. However, there were already two lanes open when I get an order for 16 balloons, that i have to blow up one by one after looking for them might I add. (Personally, I enjoy blowing up balloons and looking for them for some reason so it doesn’t bother me having to do so.) So while i have a line and so does the other person, I have to step away because this customer has waited in line like everyone else.

I guess because it took me too long and the lady had already put her stuff on the belt, she decides that I’m taking too long and that shes too lazy to move the stuff back into her cart. Basically she just walks out of the store with everything still there. So now I have a full cart of stuff - including FROZEN foods - to put away while I still have a line to check out. Which these customers cant check out until I move all the unwanted stuff off my belt.

So tonight at work, I had these teenage girls throwing and bouncing a ball, and I told them that they needed to stop or they’d be kicked out right? So they left and I thought that was that. But then they came back and asked me if I would fake kicking them out of the store? They were doing it for a dare, so I got to pretend kick them out, and it made my night! My last day is on Saturday (7/20), so it was kind of nice that I got to do something fun. I also got to pet a dog, so that was nice.
