As the door swung open, Rue found herself greeted by the rare sight of an almost perfectly dressed Dorian Salazar. His silhouette is framed by the warm glow of light spilling from his chambers. A smile tugged at the corner of her lips, as she dipped into a theatrical curtsy that lasted only a heartbeat. "Well," she mused, "I could tell you a little spirit whispered in my ear tonight that you were in dire need of my company..." Slipping gracefully past him, she invited herself inside with the ease of someone who might have done so a hundred times before. "Which," she added over her shoulder, "would only be partially a lie."
Her dark eyes wandered idly through the room, lingering for a moment on the conspicuously empty bed before she turned back to him in a slow sweep. With elegant flourish, she held up the deep red satchel she'd carried tucked beneath her arm, her brows lifting expectantly as though waiting for the realization to dawn on him. "It's three days after the full moon, darling," she sighed, "I do adore that you always find new ways to surprise me, but discovering two beautiful, entirely rambunctious lovers occupying the bath was rather more excitement than I'd bargained for during my personal pamper night." Her expression softened into something fond despite the complaint. She knew that she had no real right to complain. After all, it was only by his grace that she was allowed such a luxury on the island without being a siren or a paying guest, as well as there being bigger problems that needed attention, but she couldn't keep disappointment from reaching her features in the shape of a small pout. "I had been rather looking forward to soaking in hot water without having to dodge anyone else's elbows... or considerably more distracting anatomy."
dorian only smiled as rue slipped into his room, closing the door behind her without a second thought. she was welcome in his company any time, he had often turfed others out of it so that he could dedicate it just to her, but that wasn't necessary this evening. perhaps she was right, perhaps he was in need of her company now, above all others'.
"would you have me throw them out on the street without their clothes? a worthy punishment for disturbing your peace, mija." he chuckled, making his way to sit in the upholstered velvet armchair on the other side of the room and gesturing for her to take a seat on the spacious four-poster bed. "i have never seen so many pirates in this port at one time. under my roof is one thing, at least there are methods to release their tension, but i can only imagine the bluff is no better than the pit these days." a brief frown crossed his features at the thought of rue in the midst of brawls breaking out over lost bets. "is nazanin keeping you safe?" he knew better, rue had proven that she could look out for herself, but no amount of years that passed could make him forget the little girl that had taken refuge in his shadow.
who: dorian salazar & open! where: the siren's nest
dorian had spent the last portion of the night alone, in his decadently decorated private room in the siren's nest. it was unusual for him to choose his own company, but tortuga was boiling over with all of the tension being confined to its shores that he needed to think, he needed to plan, he needed to keep control of the situation. the sea may have had its captains, but tortuga was his. he had to ensure it stayed that way, so it warranted time spent with the best mind he knew β his own. that was, until, a knock at the door came. he didn't recall making any arrangements for visitors, but these days there was far too much at stake for him not to heed a call. he padded his way to the door to open it for them. "look who it is." he took a step back to take them in fully. "what are you doing here?"
starter : open || location : at the shambles
leyla eyes the shiny trinkets as she picked them as if inspecting them for any inconsistencies one by one. she enjoyed the little charms and other small glassware along with the pressed flowers. she did not know which she had wanted when deciding between them when her eyes glanced to a couple of daggers. some simple and others that were decorated with jewels on the hilt. she picked up a small gold one with red gems and brown leather for the grip. "what do you think?" she said turning to the person next to her and flashing a smile. "you think this could actually cause some damage or is it more decorative?" the asked with a tone innocent in her voice.
dorian stood just behind leyla, watching her peruse the stalls with all the satisfaction of a wealthy benefactor taking great delight in spending his money on a beautiful woman. the smile on her face and the way her eyes lit up was worth far more than the coin ever could be. dorian was a greedy man, that much could be said, but it was rarely for money. favours, reputation, pleasure... that was far more important to him. he laughed as she showed him the blade, eyes warm and bright. "i think a merchant would be a fool to leave true weapons on the table. beautiful as it may be, the only damage it may do is cause envy."
his gaze trailed over the stalls, fingers gliding over the velvet tablecloth of a jewellery stand. "what about this, princesa?" his grin widened as he picked up a necklace with a ruby stone, laying it on his palm to show her. "i think you wearing this and nothing else is far more dangerous than any dagger."
kaito listened to her words but still approached like always as if he were the annoying younger sibling bother the oldest. the sand shifted under his feet before he dropped and sat down next to her. "aye that the thanks i get for bringing you a bottle of rum. fuck me then for wanting to have a drink." he said as he dropped the bottle in front of rika. "i can down the whole thing myself and you're going to have to watch over me so i don't end up burning down the dock then or something bigger. i'll tell our captain its your fault."
"fuck you indeed." rika smirked as she seized the bottle with quick fingers before kaito could take it back. she laughed as she swigged from it, wiping her chin with the back of her sleeve as the amber liquid trickled down it. "you think the captain would believe you? i never carry the smell of smoke on me. you, on the other hand, fucking reek." she took another drink before she shoved it against kaito's chest. "and fuck it. for all i care, do it. would be the most entertainment i've had since we got here."

it's funny. one might think that living on an island would make one grow little tired of the sea and the beach. that was never the case for adeola. the docks were the place that she returned, time and time again, when she needed a moment alone. a place of quiet reflection that made everything feel like it was going to be okay. a place that made her feel connected to the very earth that they lived on. she held her shoes in her hand as she stepped foot on the sand and only sighed a sigh of annoyance as she heard the other. she had intended to give rika a wide berth. " then it is a good job that i am not here for you. " adeola responded simply. she had long since stopped being intimidated by the likes of rika. " the only one doing any disturbing around here is you. "
the scornful tone of the other only made rika smile, the white lunar light catching her teeth and sharpening them. "what am i disturbing? the waters?" perhaps it was true, since the tide had yet to reach her and wet her feet. did she instil the same fear into the ocean as she did the hearts of men? "what 'peace' do you have left to disturb? you are no better than me, only you think you can hide what you are."
"To be fair, lass, you always kind of look like you want to kill everyone from here to the crown and back." Malley shrugged, ignoring the warning and sitting beside Rika anyway. The Raider's Revenge was her family, whether they liked it or not. And although Rika skewed much harder to the side of not, Malley was still keen to put some effort in. although she'd sent jules out on an errand to get her away from the vicinity. "But fine, if you don't want dinner, I'll eat it right in front of you."
rika turned her attention, glancing up at malley over her shoulder. there was a hint of amusement in her eyes, one saved almost solely for her crewmates. "i'm glad it hasn't gone unnoticed. but i could have killed you and i haven't, even if you do make me question it every day." a moment passed before rika rolled her eyes and accepted malley's company. "fucking sit then, before i change my mind. what have you got?"
Zohra walked along the docks with her eyes ever scanning the water. There were enemies of the Revenge everywhere, and Zohra had the bad luck to run into a few.
"You first. I was hoping for a moment alone" Zohra was irritated, but would always return Rika's exasperation back to her. Zohra sat next to her crewmate, watching her dagger spin. She watched the waves quietly. Was it in the air or was Tortuga three times as difficult as normal? Zohra's brig was empty and there were too many rival pirates out for her liking.
"then piss off down the coast and leave me." she spat bitterly, scowling as she pressed the sharp of her blade into her finger. not hard enough to draw blood, no, rika knew the exact amount of pressure needed for that. just enough to give that pinch, to ease a little of her tension. it didn't work. "haven't you realised yet there is nowhere to go to be alone? can't get far enough away from any of the cunts. can't kill them either. i had a better time being marooned."
trapped here. it doesnβt matter all that much, for sansa has felt trapped almost everywhere she goes. though, to be offered the choice of being stranded at sea and on land, she knows she would dive head first into the ocean at the first opportunity. sheβs barefoot, sheβs fairly tipsy, and she likes how the sand feels between her toes. thereβs a bottle of something in her hand, sheβs not quite sure what, but it burns her throat and makes her squint when she swallows β so she doesnβt complain. sansaβs brows raise at the solitary figure sitting in her path, and she canβt help but laugh when rika speaks. βthere you are,β sansaβs voice is like honey despite the bitterness of her beverage. she plops down ungraciously beside rika and offers the unidentified bottle to her. βfuck you back. i wanted to come see the sea, if that's quite alright with you.β
rika can smell sansa's familiar scent before she drops her weight into the sand beside her, enough of it filling her nose to heat her blood. the woman had an impeccable talent for riling her up, yet her name had yet to meet rika's list of those saved for her daggers. it didn't do to dwell on it. the glint of moonlight on the bottle thrust towards her caught her eye and she snatched it without grace, knocking back some of the foul liquor. "you're on a fucking island, you don't have to look far to see the sea. yet you came all this way to bother me." she noted, though her tone was less cutting and left a little more room for teasing. "are you going to wade out to make your escape? it would be fun for me to watch you drown."
To their credit, Vasya has been here since morning. Up and down the shores, digging in the sand, waist-deep in the ocean as its waves soaked them through and forced them to sway with the current. From an outsider's perspective, they must look mad, muttering to themself and drawing symbols in the wet sand, but those who are familiar with the tall blonde know this is nothing out of the ordinary. There is a reverence they carry for the sea rarely given to human beings -- respect is earned, and She has more than earned Vasya's.
Rika is a part of that small list. Ruthless, Vicious, cut from the same cloth, welded into the same bone, lithe bodies stained red and Gods, isn't her beauty enhanced when covered in it? With the sunset, Vasya's cohabitance with the waves ends for now, and in its place is Rika by the docks. They sit down next to her without much fanfare, an unimpressed grunt at the attitude they immediately receive. Bones and talismans on their person that sound only because there is no immediate threat around them -- somehow, when stealth is needed, no matter how many body parts they carry with them, Vasya is as silent as a fucking mouse. Fuck off, she says. "No," Vasya replies simply, tearing off a piece of cooked rat, fresh off the bone, and offering it to her. "Keep sulking and you'll pollute the air and our fates." A mouthful of meat and a matter-of-fact tone. After a moment, she looks at her. "There are about a dozen more of these in a nest behind the brothel if you feel like killing something."
there were few who could stomach rika's company, and even fewer still who would choose to occupy her space the way vasya did. their defiance of her request for solitude only made rika huff a small laugh, the corners of her lips turning up into something that dangerously resembled a smile. "this whole fucking island is polluted." she grumbled, her blade still restless in her hands. "point out one of your fates to me when you see it and i'll gut it for keeping me here."
she turned her head then to look at them, gaze dropping to the meat offered to her. her lip curled at the sight of it but still she took it, not one to turn down a chance to eat. not after having so many of those opportunities torn from her in the past. "oh there are so many other rats worth my blade in this place. when is kiyoto going to let us play?" still she sulked, despite vasya's request. maybe one of the townsfolk would be less aggravated prey. they could do it together, like old times, to ease the strain a little. somehow she doubted the idea would be received well by their captain.

OSCAR ISAAC as Victor Frankenstein Frankenstein (2025) dir. Guillermo Del Toro
who: dorian salazar & jo mercer @stcrboard where: the gull inn
the gull often nestled in the back of dorian's mind, a sister establishment of sorts. an agreement made between two owners so entangled for so many years now that even their businesses entwined, sharing patrons back and forth, greasing each other's palms. it was hardly unknown that the pair themselves would share each other's beds, too, but that was by the by.
so that day, as query turned to mild concern, dorian made his way through tortuga's cobbled streets and let himself into the inn's front door. "cariΓ±a!" he announced as he entered, summoning the redhead from wherever she may have been tucked away since she wasn't in the entrance room to greet him. "if you are in the throes of passion upstairs i will be highly offended i never received an invitation."
who: rika & open! where: deserter's docks
each whispering lap of the gentle waves against the shore was a vicious mockery. rika sat under the dock, dagger restlessly turning in her hands, as she watched the light of the moon catching the far horizon. the sea was calm that night, a far cry from the turmoil brewing inside of her. she wanted to scream, to curse the waves and the snares that awaited any pirate that dared to enter them, and tear this entire port to the ground with her savage bare hands. if there was one thing rika had no patience for it was... well, patience. keen ears picked up the soft shifting of sand underfoot behind her, and she scowled all the more, her gaze still fixed ahead. "clearly i look like i want to be disturbed." she growled, sarcasm dripping from every word. "fuck off."
who: adeola & open
where: the devils cask
theΒ caskΒ had beenΒ quiet and while adeola lived for the lively nature that could comeΒ with running a tavern, she wasΒ certainly glad for the momentsΒ of quiet, too. moments of quiet reflection were hardly sought just about coming to the end of contentment with it ... when the door opened. she raised an eyebrow as she saw who it was that walked in. "Β don't want any funny businessΒ " adeola narrowed her eyes at the newcomer. " so if you're in some sort of mood, turn around and take yourself elsewhere. " it was a warning and adeola wasn't someone who would give chances. if the person in front of her decided not to heed that warning... well, they'd know what was comingΒ to them. " otherwise - welcome. what can i get you? "
swaggering to a seat at the bar that was all but reserved for him β in fact it had been known for it to be vacated the moment he entered the devil's cask β dorian dropped onto the stool with all the grace of a cat landing on its feet. "oh don't scold me already, amor. you know it only excites me." a wry grin spread across his lips as he pointed behind the bar to the bottle of gin that had been 'politely commandeered' from a british trading ship by smugglers. "by your tone i'd say you've been dealing with trouble. is it handled?" an offer to help, but also an insight into the goings-on of other establishments in port.

[ oscar isaac, cis man, forty five, he/him ] is that tortugaβs very own DORIAN SALAZAR ? the OWNER at THE SIREN'S NEST has been around the island TWENTY YEARS, and they remind us of CALLOUSED FINGERTIPS ON SILK-SOFT SKIN, A SHIRT NEVER BUTTONED TO THE TOP, KNOWING WHAT'S BAD FOR YOU AND WANTING IT ANYWAY. people say theyβre WITTY & EXUBERANT but weβve heard they can be MANIPULATIVE & HEDONISTIC too. rumour would have it that they have a POSITIVE view on pirates, but one thingβs for sureβtheyβd better get used to them.
