I live in an old creaky farm house. Lately if my mom is not here or when she's in the same room as me and I hear the hallway floor creak, I get really excited because my first thought is its my dad coming out of the bedroom and I get excited because my brain says "yay! It's dad, you haven't seen him for a long time!" And then I see one of the animals walk down the hallway and remember that dad is not here anymore and it makes me really sad. It's been a year and a half since his death and it's still hard.

No matter how long I’m away, my dog always makes me feel like the most important person in the world when I come home.
