Why would stained glass need to be stable enough to make a fish tank? The whole point of a glass tank is that it's transparent, you could just put the stained glass around the outside of a normal glass tank.

Unfortunately that dilutes the jesus. They use stained glass in churches because regular glass is notoriously antitheistic.
