miscellaneous OPLA season 2 thoughts I had, in no particular order, because they did it again, these mad lads and gals and nonbinary pals did it again, and they somehow improved on an already impossible success.
season opening with robin kicking ass is THE choice of all time. keeping her as the "ominously in the background the whole time and flirting with ladies" as the alternative to s1's garp's "ominously pursuing his dumbass grandson the whole time and flirting with the old men" is great.
zoro v 100 people is REALLY FUCKIN HOT, love the use of mihawk as zoro's self doubt
the laboon stuff is glorious and I def didn't tear up over it and brook.
BROOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! T__T T__T T__T
the use of music in this show is amazing, from brook and laboon and luffy to the chopper song. I'd be lying if the orchestral "we are!" in the first episode also didn't smack me right in my one piece loving heart.
vivi and nami are absolutely in lesbians
casting continues to be impeccable from the straw hats through igaram. also the little scene early on with roger and garp? holy shit what a choice I love it.
as an aside, I love that roger is just a normal sized dude here? I love that he's not exactly ginormous like he is in the manga, but his presence outweighs everything. even chained up, about to die, he's going out on his terms, with his choices, and he's going to laugh about them all.
I can't not highlight luffy on roger's execution stand enough, absolutely spectacular acting
I said it during s1, but iñaki godoy gets luffy. this miracle of a show would not work without him, and he makes it look almost effortless.
mr. 9 I was not familiar with your game
vivi is really really good, everyone. I really like the little touches she gets to be more active in this, too, leans on her growth as a leader a lot. I'm so excited for alabasta.
"don't you worry about me and size" sanji you can't say that while also reaching out for zoro's hand
LITTLE. ISLAND. GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!
miss valentine and mr. 3 are cartoon characters brought to life and idk how they did it.
usopp is the underdog and understated hero of the season, which warms my heart. I love usopp on this, he's got the biggest heart.
[surprise sanji backstory mention???]
speaking of surprises: they pulled off chopper. he looks great, hiriluk made me tear up. "when does a man die?" every fuckin time, I swear.
I have a few qualms with the pacing in drum, but kureha's perfect. no notes. I know I was sad when jamie lee curtis couldn't come in for her but damn if katey sagal doesn't know exactly what's needed and more than deliver.
kureha the witch casts GUN.
there's something that the live action somehow manages to carry over from the manga in the constant joy of laughter. sure there's ominous laughter (CROCODILE my guy) but it's also a balm, a sign of community, a sound of freedom. one piece gets it, and so does opla.
I don't know how they did it again, and made it even better.
anyways next season it's time for ace and I'm pretty sure he's going to melt the internet (flame flame fruit pun intended)
