ClipStudio Paint Tutorial: Exporting Character Variation as named files
You there.
Yes.
You.
Are you an artist who drew a bunch of character variations in ClipStudio Paint and now has to toggle the visibility of all the different layers.
Are you an programmer having to set up a PNGTuber character from a .clip file and are desperately trying to get all the components out in an automatic fashion but the "Batch Process" is a bit lacking.
Are you an indie game developer who masterfully crafted a ton of different faces for your characters of your next visual novel game and now has to spend hours exporting and renaming every. single. slight. variations.
*world goes monochrome* "There has to be a better way"
And there is. It's called
Exporting Animation cells
But you may ask: "How do I use this »Exporting Animation cells«"
Well, click "Read more" for just 29,99€ 0,00€ to learn all about it.

*only as long as supplies last
just found this video, it was seriously helpful. how did i not know a lot of these lol
📝 Tiny tutorial: How I work with Clip Studio's 3d models to make them ALWAYS fit my art style! 🩷
I do the same with patterns and decorations of this sort 🥰 I recommend rasterizing your 3d file layer once it's set up the way you like it! Easier to play around with the opacity!
Now that I think about it, the only thing I don't do it for is handwriting brushes… 🤔
📝There is nothing wrong with using 3D files as references or guides.
Personally, direct tracing doesn't sit right with me, so to make sure it's just a shape guide when I need to get the perspective right, I do the blur trick! I keep opacity around 15% to just suggest the shape.
OKAY so I am starting to believe a lot of people don't realize just HOW customizable clip studio is 😌 Besides the obvious - rearranging all tools windows and sections to your liking, adjusting color from light gray to black, these 3 areas are 100% customizable!! (also, reminder, I am not affiliated with celsys or anything, i just really really like this software and i will not shut up about it anytime soon lol)
1. Command bar - it's on the very top of your screen, and you can toggle it's visibility too (with the 3 lines on the very left of it)! To choose what buttons you want to have there, go to [file] > [command bar settings]!
2. Selection launcher - this belt of buttons pops up when you make a selection, right below it. Super useful!!! I put a lot of color adjustments settings on it, but also sharpening, blurring, and the transformation tools! To edit, just press this button on it (selection launcher settings).
3. Quick access menu - especially useful if you use smartphone assistant! To edit buttons on it, just press the three lines in left top corner of the menu and go to [quick access settings]!
I'll just add one more thing I learned over the years - if you think to yourself "mann I wish this was an option here..." it most likely is 🥹 (and if it's not, you can always send suggestions to csp's tech team through the starting app!!

clip studio paint is driving me up a wall
do you use clip studio paint on windows? are you fucking tired of running out of storage space because you download a lot of materials and brushes? are your materials files stuck on your local c drive and you don't know how to move it?
making this tutorial because for some reason all other tutorials miss what you're supposed to do after changing the directory. btw, i use windows. fuck ya macos (i don't know how to help you guys)
close all clip studio programs and go to clip studio
2. go to the settings icon in the top right corner and hover over it. click on location of materials (p)
remember the address of the current location of materials.
3. create a new folder in your alternate drive/storage space. do not add anything in it. do not copy anything in it. simply write that new folder's address in here. click save changes.
now if you're like me and downloaded a ton of stuff, it's gonna take a while to load. it's transferring your document and material folders over. let it run. when it's complete, acknowledge and accept the popup.
4. CRUCIAL: after this step, delete the old "Document" and "Material" folders from the old directory (the address you memorized) (likely located in some address that has AppData (newer versions) in it or Documents (older versions)) (if you can't find this, turn hidden folders on in file explorer, AppData is a hidden folder).
when you try to exit out of this clip studio instance, it will also remind you to remove old files before closing the application. do NOT delete the CLIPStudioCommon folder. LEAVE the DB and other folders there.
before:
after:
5. after deleting the old folders, exit out of the clip studio instance. and you're done.
now you should enjoy like, a good 10 more gb of storage. at least for me. i'm enjoying that. also i use csp latest version 1 version (like 1.13 something idk) (i'll upgrade when they give me a free upgrade).
i forget if this is available for earlier versions but i did migrate csp across devices a lot, and that was a bunch of manually copying folders, which won't work for transferring between drives like this tutorial.
by the way if you're doing something like manually copying full folders over (like the old method of transferring csp between devices), you may find that your materials/organization structure is gone. you can go through clip studio and run both "Organize Materials" and "Organize Material Folders" to restore them to that tab in clip studio paint. at least when i was fucking around trying to find out how to put my materials on a different drive, i went through several iterations of backing up and copying back over 13.4 gb of data because i'd mess up One step.
disclaimer: i have not tried downloading new materials yet. i swear to fucking god they better download in my other drive. i am sick and tired of running out of storage. imagine being an engineer debugging code and then files on your computer start to disappear because your C drive ran out of space. happened to me!!!
no i don't know what will happen if you try to put these materials folders on a flashdrive. i think that's an "external drive" and there's some warning for that in the middle of this process. i feel like there's nothing wrong with that so long as you always plug that drive in when you use clip studio products or CSP at least.
if you encounter problems in the middle of this, i don't know how to solve them. i saw some people encounter problems when transferring the data over after changing the address and i don't know where their issues were (this issue seems to be because they installed CSP on D). this seems to be an article summarizing transferring csp across devices (both cloud and the old manual way)
discussion below:
Some people wanted a tutorial on how to color a grayscale image with flats and a gradient map. Cross posted on rednote, that's why there's Chinese on it.
You need a basic understanding of your art program to follow along. I had to skip clipping masks, for example, but feel free to ask questions.
More under the cut.
how 2 make 16-bit looks in clip studio paint!!!!
I made a Really Basic CSP animation set-up guide for a friend, or at least how I personally set-up my animation workspace! I wanted to share this here because some of this might be insightful to someone else out there too :-)
It mostly covers really basic functions and dabbles a little bit into how to add keyframes and camera movements, but nothing too groundbreaking. BUT I figure it could be helpful for the unfamiliar!

Another step by step art tutorial that I’ve painted for uni. Focusing on a warmly coloured stilllife

Finding Ai Free Art References
Take your own reference photos and photo bash em as needed!
pros: 100% license free photos that won't get you in legal trouble
you know the source
cons: might not have exactly what you need (people/props/locations/etc)
Go to google images, then select tools, any time, leave from: blank, and set to: '2022'
pros: pretty much all ai is left out because the big ai boom was summer 2023
cons: this leaves you with old references
Use Duckduckgo, go to change search settings, ai features: manage, turn duck.ai off/turn hide generated images ON
pros: they do a pretty good job sorting out ai
they value your privacy as a search engine
cons: I find *personally* that duckduckgo has less results than something like google
Vet the source of every image you come across
pros: you'll get better at citing sources which is already pretty necessary in this day and age
you'll get better at detecting ai in images (but don't go accusing random people and artists"
cons: it's tedious in the age of conveniency
takes time
That's it! Enjoy relatively ai free references! Please add more ideas as you think of them!
consider visiting my kofi or shop <3

Hello! are you still active on here? I am a baby in clip studio paint and I’m looking for help! I’m having some serious trouble with my word balloons—none of the settings seem to be working properly when I try to add text. When the word balloon is not in a panel frame, it won’t resize automatically with the text like it’s supposed to, and the text doesn’t automatically stay in the balloon either like it’s supposed to. It gets worse when the balloon is inside a panel frame—then the text refuses to acknowledge the balloon at all and somehow get stuck typing sideways even though it’s technically center aligned! Would you be able to help me? I would be eternally grateful. I just need someone to help me troubleshoot. 🙏😭.
hi there let me start off with i have no idea i'm so sorry butttt
it's under my impression that the balloons won't automatically resize, but that you have to go to operation > object and drag the the little circles around
the only other things i think it could be is with the tool settings somehow? maybe they got wonky on accident and you can just reset to default?
i would recommend going to the csp community art ask page and asking there with screenshots!
sorry i couldn't be more of help :(
God this blog is awesome, just recently got back into digital art for the first time in awhile and these posts are super helpful 💚❤️💜
YAY!! I’m so glad you’re finding it useful. I’ll try to keep up with posting! ^^’

Gentle reminder that often creativity decides to hibernate for a bit.
It’s okay. You’re not broken, you’re resting, and much like spring, creativity comes back.
In Art Therapy we call this incubating.
You’re incubating ideas. Like an egg. There’s stuff growing inside. Your ideas are collecting and culminating and melding, merging into something.
Don’t crack it open before it’s ready. Wait until you hear it tap tap tapping with its egg tooth. Then slowly help it from its shell bit by bit.
Be kind. Be gentle. We are all growing things tender and soft but capable of great power if given the time to grow and change.
I was ruminating on this a lot a few months ago, being so frustrated with feeling depleted with the interest to do the thing that usually gives me so much joy, comfort and connection. The thought I held onto was that creativity is the like the Wadden Sea. The ocean is gone and it looks like what’s left is boring, plain mud flats all the way to the horizon. But this is actually precious ground full of life and an important part of our ecosystem. So it is okay to cherish the plainness and muddiness of it. It is just part of the rhythm. The tide will be back soon again.
Don't mind me posting a small Clip Studio Pain tip! (I'll be posting these here time to time as well!)
📝Did you know that you can edit the grid of your mesh transformation tool in Clip Studio?
(this tip is for license version 1 and up!)

A FOOTNOTE: I will be ONLY sharing tips for PRO version since this is the version I use 🩷🙏 So you can use these tips in both PRO and EX as well!
I'll be doing my best to add the license version information as well!
