And it is just beautiful. In particular, the church scene at the tail end of the episode was (after the poor priests get pulped by Lestat) heartbreaking. This is Ā my transcription:
[Lestat slowly pursuing Louis, as Louis back away slowly towards the altar.]
LESTAT: [in tears, his voice particularly ragged as he lists the injustices that Louis faces] This primitive country has picked you clean. It has shackled you in permanent exile. Every room you enter, every hat you are forced to wearāthe stern landlord, the deferential business man, the loyal sonāall these roles you conform to, and none of them your true nature.
[Louis falls to the floor and looks up at Lestat]
LESTAT: What rage you must feel as you choke on your sorrow.
[Lestat kneels beside Louis]
LESTAT: The first time I laid eyes on you, your beautiful face⦠I saw that sorrow. It did not know how it got there or why it was so voluminous. I can take away that sorrow, Louis. I can give you that death you begged your blind, feeble, degenerate, non-existent God for. But I can do itā¦joyfully. I can swap this life of shame, swap it out for a dark gift and a power you canāt even begin to imagine. You just have to ask for it. You just have to nod your beautiful headā¦and say yes.
[The music, which stopped completely for a few lines, returns, gentle and heart-warming.]
LESTAT: [tenderly] I love you, Louis. You are loved. [Lestat touches Louisā chest, and gently strokes it] I send my love to you, and you send it back round to me. And this circle, this home we barely had a glimpse of⦠know it frightens me as much as it does you.
LOUIS: [voiceover] It is difficult to explain how his words disarmed me, how efficiently succinct and impenetrable his argument was. All my conceptions, even my guilt and wish to die seemed utterly unimportant, and I completely forgot myself and the barbaric scene around me. For the first time in my life, I was seen.
LESTAT: Be my companion, Louis. Be all the beautiful things you are, and be them without apology. For all eternity.
[Louis is trembling, near tears, but he slowly nods as he reaches for Lestatās face. Lestat pulls him into a lingering kiss.]
Iām never going to recover from this. How do I write/draw now? How in the name of Samuel J. Fuck am I supposed to top THAT?
