This episode was so good (okay they all are but still) at tackling an issue I’ve literally never seen tackled before in any medium; even I’ve never thought to tackle it in any of my works:

When abled parents put the younger abled sibling in charge of the older disabled sibling.

My brother’s seven years younger than me and though it’s never hapened to this extreme, this does happen. It’s the weirdest dynamic because I’m literally a teacher who currently lives on my own but my mom especially will still always ask him to help me whenever I’m with them. And yeah, I’m guilty of expecting him to help at times but most of the time, I have the same reaction that JJ has. I love my brother to death and I know he’ll always be willing to help but it shouldn’t be expected of him.

And I love that they showed that JJ can go out into the city and be independent! He doesn’t need his younger brother to ‘babysit’ him. He’s perfectly capable of taking an entire trip to the mall by himself. (And the way they showed him getting around inaccessible obstacles in ingenious which is why you should stop relying on my screencaps and go watch the episode!)

The only frustrating part was that, in the end, JJ told Ray that he couldn’t tell their parents what he had done. But they need to know.
