It’s less of a they literally forget and more of why did they subdue it by cutting out scenes about it

Did it really need to be a focal point by this time though? His diagnosis had been a focal point of four seasons by that point. To me it was nice to see it be part of him without it being everything about him--to see him enjoying life and managing with the highs and lows without every single emotion being scrutinized as manic or depression. That's what medicated mood management looks like.

I want to see him enjoying life and managing—but I feel like we get less of the managing sometimes because they deleted those scenes. I’m not asking for another season 5, but for little moments of how Ian and Mickey navigate his bipolar on a domestic scale because up til now it’s mostly been Ian managing on his own around people who really don’t understand him like Mickey does. Not to “other” or making a big deal out of it to dehumanize Ian at all.

The scenes of Ian staying up all night and Mickey holding his arm (the callback from earlier seasons) and Mickey comforting Ian with the tamale are the type of things I wanted more of. Less of “look Ian’s bipolar” and more of “hey look how this married couple manages something real and normal”.

TLDR: basically I miss the deleted scenes and wish they had more scenes like that. Casual managing of Ian’s bipolar, not a huge arc (though i wouldn’t mind a huge emotional arc about Ian and Mickey not having to do with his bipolar but that’s a whole other thing loldndjdjd; and beyond that maybe I really just craved Gallavich heavy plot lines in general but retroactively just thought of his bipolar when it could be about anything really my bad )

I can totally understand the desire to see more soft and real moments between them 🥺 And genuine conversations about navigating life together. Mickey seeing Ian as who he is and not just his disorder was such an important part of Ian's storyline-and their combined one. So more little call backs to that would've been nice; as with all the other big emotional growing arcs.

Honestly, more than any of that, it would've been nice to have his stability pointed out and Mickey being proud and relieved. Because Ian finally achieving long-term stability is a massive deal for his character. And for his husband.

What I found interesting is that in S10/S11 they showed him trending much more towards the depressive side, where previously the focus (other than the obvious) had been on his manic episodes.

I think it was nice to see his condition still being acknowledged but not being the focus or core of his personality. Showing Ian stable, taking his meds, but still struggling with his mental health in the smaller, less disruptive ways was a great shift.

And we did see Mickey (especially in S11) recognizing what was happening and course-correcting.

We had, briefly, seen a stable version of Ian - and I think it was nice for them to end with Mickey seeing that version of him again, and being able to experience the future they once thought they could maybe have

Exactly this!! Because that is the reality of the condition. So, it was great to see them represent it well in that way.
