Honestly this is one of the best formatted jokes of all time.

Do you think it annoyed Barty when Harry shook off the Imperius curse in his class? Like, that's the spell that controlled him for years, and this scrawny little fourteen year old is able to go Mm, no, not for me, thanks. I mean, he must have been at least a little jealous, right? Or, alternatively, is he such a death eater true believer that Harry being magically impressive pleased him bc it made him a more worthy foe for Lord Voldemort?

There is a lot of humour in Harry Potter (and JKR's writing in general) and much of it is relevant to building a believable world as a satire of real British society: wizard politics, wizard sport, wizard school teachers, etc. But some of the humour is not doing that at all. Some of it comes with no explanation and serves no purpose other than adding general absurdity. I think my favourite example is the Beauxbâtons carriage's elephant-sized horses ONLY drinking single-malt whiskey. Emphasis on the single-malt. These are the horses who safely carried at least a dozen kids + their school's director across the entirety of France and the UK. Are they just drunk the whole time? And why single-malt, is this a species thing or are those specific horses particularly precious about their alcohol? Newt Scamander himself does not have answers for us.
