“I think about you less and less these days. Honestly, I do. And I think that’s good, because I’m pretty sure you don’t think about me much ever anymore. You have a new person. You’re happy with her in a way you couldn’t be with me. That’s good. But sometimes I get scared that you were my forever person. And that I was never yours. That you’ll move away next year and I’ll be nothing more than that one girl you knew that one time when you were 19 and reckless, and I’ll forever be comparing every guy I meet to you. I’m scared I won’t ever be able to get rid of this nagging little feeling in the back corner of my heart that I’ll always love you, long after you’ve so much as forgotten my name. I’ve always been scared of that. You promised me once that you couldn’t live your life without me in it so you’d wait for me to come back around. I believed you. But then you’re the one that left, so does that mean it wasn’t true? I bet you don’t even remember saying that to me anymore, do you? I bet you laugh at yourself for even thinking something so foolish. I’m replaceable; you’ve proven that. Maybe I was a filler for you; a way to pass the time between the two serious ones. But what if you were my serious one? I miss you like a dull pain in the back of my chest. That’s why I try so hard not to think about you anymore - because when I do, I can’t help but wonder. What if you were mine, but I was never yours? What then?”
