i'm engaged to the person im referring to now - how crazy is that?
(very) long story short, i met someone while i was still with my someone before. we were just friends for a long time, because i was really committed to making my [at the time] relationship work. he respected that fully, and that allowed us to develop the most wonderful friendship and foundation.
then for reasons that didn't have much to do with him, the relationship i was in fell apart. i was heartbroken, but i think somewhere deep down i knew that my person before was just that. we weren't each other's forever people.
and then he and i decided to give it a try, sort of on a whim but also kind of such a long time coming, if that makes sense? we decided to start dating long distance, during covid. his job and my job were both in person and our living situations 2,000 miles apart made the relationship less than ideal. layer that on top of all of the social dynamics with friends i'd made through my person beffore not supporting a new relationship with someone i'd insisted was just a friend (which was fully true at the time)! but it didn't feel right not to try. he told me he loved me before we started dating, and then we started dating, and now here we are. maybe not as exciting or beautifully poetic as i'd made it seem in that post, admittedly :)
