No matter what happened, these are the characters I’ve watched, loved, and believed in for years.

They are crazy together. They are bound to each other. They are two parts of the same soul, and only together do they make a whole.

They did not write the script. They did not decide what is or isn’t canon. They did not control the final outcome of the story.

The cast played what they were given. They followed the direction they were told to follow. If they hinted at things, leaned into dynamics, or spoke fondly about certain interpretations — that does not mean they were lying to fans or manipulating anyone. Actors are often encouraged to keep things vague, to build anticipation, and sometimes they are contractually unable to confirm or deny anything at all. They may have personally enjoyed certain ships. They may have seen the same subtext we did. That doesn’t magically give them power over the narrative.

It’s okay to feel disappointed. It’s okay to feel angry. It’s okay to grieve what we hoped for.

But harassment, hate, or blame directed at the actors is misplaced.

If you’re angry, be angry at the writing. Be angry at the creative decisions. Be angry at the showrunners — the people who actually shaped the story. The actors are not your enemies here. They’re human beings who showed up, did their jobs, and often gave more than the script itself deserved.

So please:

Byler isn’t canon. Yes, it hurts very much but don’t turn that frustration into hate toward the cast.
