people have been developing ways of talking around sex and violence in “polite” and “acceptable” ways for forever; there is a near endless well of euphemisms you could use that don’t treat your audience like kindergartners. respect them enough to use them.

I feel like the bait bots use the original words to get attention, which may contribute.

So many of these types of posts boil down to: if someone finds me obnoxious, the fascists win and you're friends with conservatives because there are no other lefty people to be in community with.

There are lots of Black people I have no interest in being around because of our political and or personal differences. That doesn't mean we're doomed lol what kind of egotistical nonsense. That's not what solidarity is. Being a Black woman, I'm very suspicious of thinking like this because this type of " stick together no matter what and If you don't you think you're better than me" is how Black women are guilted out of reasonable boundaries with misogynist Black men or centring what the " greater good " is and funny, we're never apart of that.

This is very very childish thinking. People in your community do not have to like you. This is normal. It happens in every group. Conflict and disagreement is normal. Not wanting to be associated with people doesn't boil down to one thing.

This is for all those who were promised community, only to be rejected and banned. To all those who can't wear or fly a Magen David ✡️ without being accused of blood libel. To those who had their community turn their backs on them. To those who have had self-proclaimed nazi punchers spew nazi rhetoric back to their face. To those who are lost. To those that lost friends, lost their sense of belonging, because people stole our word and re-defined it to mean something dirty.

Realizing that a species is imperiled has broad connotations, given that it tells us something about the plight of nature itself. It reminds us of the need to implement conservation measures and to protect the region of which the species is a part. But aside form the broader picture, species have intrinsic worth and are deserving of preservation. Surely an oddity such as C. vicinella cannot simply be allowed to vanish.

We should speak up on behalf of this little moth, not only because by so doing we would bolster conservation efforts now underway in Florida, [highlighting begins] but because we would be calling attention to the existence of a species that is so infinitely worth knowing. [end highlighting]

But is quaintness all that can be said on behalf of this moth? Does this insect not have hidden value beyond its overt appeal? Does not its silk and glue add, potentially, to its worth? Could these products not be unique in ways that could ultimately prove applicable?

and i am saying i have given each and every one of those clients the same level of professionalism, effort, and zealous advocacy i have given my clients who are victims of the same. that is how due process works, and every person is guaranteed it.

i have nothing but respect and admiration for my colleagues in the public interest sector who represent those who have committed and/or been accused any and all crimes, no matter how "morally reprehensible" others may find them.

The most common appeal is “ineffective assistance of counsel” (IAOC). IAOC is when your attorney did such a bad job defending you that your trial was constitutionally unfair. See Strickland v. Washington, 466 U.S. 668 (1984).

If a defendant wins an IAOC appeal, they get a new trial.

Usually, though, they still have to prove that they might have been found not-guilty if their attorney hadn’t screwed up (in legal speak, we say the attorney created prejudice against their own client). However, if the attorney screws up badly enough, it doesn’t matter how obvious the guilt is, they still get a new trial.

And now you’ve got an even longer time since the original crime and witnesses who might not want to testify again or are unavailable for other reasons or are dead. It is harder to prove guilt at a second trial because of that and the new defense attorney now knows all the weaknesses of the state’s case and can exploit them.
