Vegans of tumblr, listen up. Harvesting agave in the quantities required so you dont have to eat honey is killing mexican long-nosed bats. They feed off the nectar and pollinate the plants. They need the agave. You want to help the environment? Go back to honey. Your liver and thyroid will thank you, as well. Agave is 90% fructose, which can cause a host of issues. Bye.
Beekeeper here! Just wanted to say that the fact that vegans won’t eat honey is very silly. Harvesting honey does not hurt bees. The invention of modern moveable-frame hives means we can remove a selected frame, extract the honey and return it without killing a single bee.
If we destroyed the colony to harvest honey there would be no bees for next year, and beekeepers are incredibly careful to keep their bees healthy and thriving. We take *excess* honey that they don’t need, and it stops the hive from becoming honey-bound, meaning that there’s so much honey the Queen has nowhere to lay eggs. And if the winter is harsher than expected and the remaining honey store runs low, we feed the bees plenty to make sure they survive. We also make sure that pests are controlled, bees are treated for disease, and the hive is weatherproof and in good repair, all things that wild bees struggle with.
Keeping bees in properly managed hives where they don’t starve or die from preventable disease is much better for them than being left to fend for themselves, and they’re far too important to be left alone.
All the fruits and vegetables that vegans *do* eat couldn’t exist without bees, and the hives which pollinate those crops also produce excess honey which the beekeepers can sell to help keep themselves and their hives going.
TLDR: BUY THE HONEY, HELP THE BEES.
I'm in love with a serial killer what do I do
all right…i’m gonna go with a raw answer on this one, as i’m not entirely sure whether you’re 100% serious or making a semi-joke of some feelings you’re maybe having. you go back far enough into my blog archives and you’re gonna find shit like this. i’m not proud of it, i’m more ashamed, and i’m 100% lazy to go through it all to find it myself and delete it. i mean we’re talking going back through 8 years of posts. when i landed a job interview with the FBI when i was 19, i actually did go through my archive and delete what seemed “odd.” my point is, i was the exact edgy teenager everyone on tumblr now hates. and i accept that. and i grew up from that. i moved away from it. but i still can’t deny my past.
my obsession with ted bundy started when i was 12/13 years old and at such an impressionable age, a huge developmental age, it has certainly left irreparable psychological imprints on me. i’m 23 years old now, quickly going on 24, and i know who i used to be isn’t okay. i’m not trying to berate you. i’m really not trying to get at that kind of point. i guess where i’m going at is that i think i was vulnerable at the age and i fell into a lot of stuff that seemed “right” or “cool” at the time that i later grew out of and realized the truth of.
my first hospitalization was because of this. my obsession with bundy left everyone concerned enough until my school counselor contacted my psychologist (i’ve been in the mental health system since i was 13 years old) & i was forced to a psych ward with a mandatory 2 week school suspension. there’s a little more to it that i’m not wholly comfortable talking about. but i’d go on to be forcibly hospitalized numerous times by the police after that, but this first time was terrifying. and it had been a huge wake up call to come out of.
you may think you’re in love. what you love are those traits and what you love is that illusion. you love how they’re portrayed in the media and you love that danger. the danger is probably what appeals to you the most, as it appealed to me. but it always remains the idea you have of them, never the actuality.
and again, i’m not really trying to come down on you. lord knows i hated it when psychiatrists did that to me at the time, but it is something you ought to analyze about yourself. at the root of it, it really isn’t healthy. that’s where the “what do i do” thing comes in. i just want to be helpful. i get entirely where you’re coming from. i hope something can be taken away from all i’ve written. i’ve lost followers over it in the past, many an anonymous message urging me to kill myself, and while i hate that past, i am very glad i’ve moved beyond that point. and honestly, i think this website’s general culture towards killers played a part in it (i say general but i don’t mean everyone, there’s a lot of blogs i follow nowadays explicitly for their purely informational standpoint). i’m always here to talk.
the grinch being in all these stupid advertisements contradicts the anti-consumerist nature of the grinch himself. the reason he hated christmas was because he thought the holiday was simply an expression of vain materialism. the grinch only loved christmas after he realized that christmas wasn’t actually about mundane consumption, but the selfless love of community. in this essay i will-

I deeply desire a Victorian glass greenhouse with all kinds of flowers and herbs, air ferns hanging from all places, and a trickling water fountain to create an atmosphere of serenity.
what’s owning a tiger salamander like?
well, you play games! Like “Find Your Son”:
Usually followed by “Your Son Has Seen You!”
Followed enevitably by “Your Son Thinks You’re Dinner and Will NOT! Let Go!”
This has been a comprehensive guide on what owning a tiger salamander is like. Thank you.
I spent 15 years sanding and grinding mussel shells to create my sculptures. I had no idea they were slowly killing me

A Continuation: this also goes for changing into fresh pajamas! especially useful when your sheets aren’t clean/there are crumbs in the bed.
Quick Depression Pro Tip 3™: wipe your face w/ a wet washcloth. or towel. wipes. whatever. just something to make your skin feel a little cleaner.
if you don’t brush your teeth often, scrape your tongue on the cloth when you’re done, to get rid of buildup.
Quick Depression Pro Tip 4™: Granola bars. Granola bars. Everywhere.
Granola bars spilling from your backpack. Granola bars bursting from your drawers. Granola bars dripping from your faucets. Granola bars haunting your nightmares. There is nothing but granola.
Please Help Me Save My Dog
For those of you who follow me you probably know I got a puppy recently who I named Honeydew (this is her the day I brought her home)
(And this is a picture of her from yesterday)
I got Honeydew to be my ESA (emotional support animal) after encouragement from my therapists, psychiatrist, and family due to the fact that I have had issues with mental illness and behavioral problems since I was 6 years old (I am now 18) and animals give me a lot of relief from the symptoms and stress caused by this. When I brought her home everything was going great, I had a healthy, active, and happy puppy, that is until this Wednesday morning when I woke up to her being lethargic, vomiting, and refusing to eat. I took her to the vet, and she was a healthy weight and even a bit large for her age, she was alert albeit still lethargic and the vet told me it’s probably parasites/worms or it could be parvovirus (a very very very serious and fatal virus for puppies) but she was optimistic that Honeydew was just suffering from an upset stomach due to worms/parasites and gave her deworming medication but told me to get in touch with her immediately if her symptoms worsened. The next day Honeydew was back to her normal self, she was active, eating, and playful (though she still had some diarrhea) and because of that I let my guard down assuming the issue was resolved. I was wrong.Yesterday morning(friday) I woke up and went to check on her only to be greeted by clear vomit and diarrhea everywhere. She was again refusing to eat but not too lethargic, regardless I called the vet and made her an appt for their soonest availability, cleaned everything, and went to school for a few hours. When I got home I went straight to check on her and she hadn’t pooped or vomited so I was hopeful it had subsided, I, again, was wrong. After about 10 minutes I noticed how skinny she looked, as if she hadn’t eaten in weeks (I encouraged her to eat but she refused so I have made attempts to feed her I didn’t just leave her like that lol) and not even 5 minutes later she vomited blood three times in less than 10 minutes. I immediately called my vet who told us to call the ER who told us to come in ASAP so less than 25 minutes later we arrived and were rushed into an examination room. Honeydew was extremely dehydrated, and tested positive for parvovirus which the ER vet called lovingly referred to as “Ebola for puppies”.
I had the choice of having her hospitalized so she could have around the clock care which would have costed me well over $2,000 or I could try to take care of her at home for a (somewhat) more affordable price. I had no choice but to treat her out-patient since I have no way of funding her hospitalization which dropped her chances of survival from 80-90% to about 65% IF my care for her is PERFECT with absolutely 0 mistakes. The thing is I cannot afford her treatment at all, I’m a full-time college student working night shifts part-time and had been relying fairly heavily on my savings for the past 2 months due to my hours at work being cut down by more than half. She needs frequent vet visits to survive this and I absolutely can’t afford this. I had money saved for her standard vet visit where she would get vaccinated etc. but I never expected anything like this to happen. The ER visit cost me $420 that I don’t have and she’ll need to see the vet multiple times over the next 1-3 weeks which will probably put me out another $300-400+ that I don’t have.
I wouldn’t do this unless it was a last resort which it unfortunately is. She wants to live so so so so bad even the vet said that the fact she responded and tried to struggle against being poked with all those shots they gave her was a good sign. Watching as she struggles to raise her head, struggles to drink water and watching her try to walk and almost being unable to breaks my heart in a way I can’t explain. How she went from a happy go lucky baby girl to a fur covered skeleton in 24 hours absolutely baffles and devastates me. I’m doing my absolute best to be on top of her medications and giving her subcutaneous fluids but if I can’t afford to continue her treatment there is a very very good chance she will die.
I am begging you please please please donate if you can, even just $1 would help. Please help me save Honeydew
