As soon as Kronk was at his side, John tucked closer to him, comfortable feeling the warmth of his skin. He tilted his head so he could still see his face as he spoke.
"People have sex parties?" he shouldn't be so surprised. He grew up in a home that had parties to show off their newest 'trophies' from some poaching expedition. But it was probably easier to find people who wanted to go to that than a sex party. how do you send invites out for that? How many people go to a party like that? Even thinking about the smell at a sex party made his head hurt.
He exhaled a small chuckle, mostly at Kronk's phrasing even though it wasn't wrong. "I know it is," he said, wanting him to know that even if John wasn't the most experienced, he wasn't entirely clueless. Condoms were important for a lot of reasons, he knew that. He also could feel that thing about trust.
Sure, when he hooked up with Boo they'd only just met, but he was fresh out of that dream and feeling new sorts of ways and--frankly--was desperately horny. but they hadn't done anything wild or out there. He wouldn't have wanted to that first time. John had never been quick to trust, especially not in such vulnerable situations.
"I had someone else adamantly tell me that as well," he nodded. "That was the first thing she made sure I knew, that no was a complete sentence." He was lucky to have had people who were rather genuine be his first real experiences. "But okay. That's... good to know."
He leaned into the kiss though something stirred in his stomach. And I'm thirty-six, he wanted to say. Yet he'd only had a bit over a decade to navigate being a human, and far far less time than that to navigate anything romantic let alone sexual.
"I won't think that," he promised. "Because it'd be kind of a bummer if that was true; I really like kissing you, but I also really like to talk." He grinned, turning his head to steal a quick kiss after Kronk kissed his cheek. Then he just looked at him, puzzled. Before he could even shake his head, Kronk explained and John just blinked.
"Oh," he said, a little shocked. "I... people are into some interesting things, I suppose." That... didn't really sound like his cup of tea either. He didn't mind Kronk coming on him, though, but that... felt different. It was definitely different.
"The exploration has been pretty interesting..." he grinned briefly. John knew that was probably true. One day it would all just be another thing that he knew how to navigate. Right?
"What if... what if there isn't just one person, though? What if this keeps happening and there's always more than one person. That's what got me into the mess with those flyers, and I... I don't know." John's eyes shut for a moment as Kronk's hand went through his hair.
"I grew up very sheltered," he said softly. "And even after I got out of that situation, I ended up in another not so great one. It was like a different kind of sheltered, where I was seeing some messed up stuff but I was only ever seeing and engaging with what they wanted me to. I felt very rushed into learning so many new things when I'd barely figured out how to live outside of the sheltered life I'd grown up in. I didn't... The way I made friends was based on who I worked with. And even then I know a lot of them only just put up with me so I wouldn't annoy them more than I had to with work related stuff.
"But I had a falling out with them, and those people are no longer a part of my life either. And for the first time I'm just left to my own devices and I have no idea what to do with that," he paused, biting the inside of his lip as he felt a brief tightness in his throat. He shifted closer to Kronk, almost trying to hide his face under his chin.
"I feel like I don't know what I'm doing at all. Everyone else has had so much time and experience to get to this place, and I feel as though I've only just started to figure it all out--to figure myself out. And I get it, I made a mistake, maybe I should have known better, maybe I should have talked to the people involved, but now... Now everyone has this idea about me, I lost two of the very few constant people I have in my life, I may even lose my job, and I just--" he shut his eyes, pressing his face against Kronk's neck. Shutting himself up as he felt his stress rising, the frantic tone of his voice cutting deeper into his words.
"You're about two years younger than me," he murmured against his neck, his fingers lightly tracing against his chest. "And yet I feel like you've lived twice as much life as me."
