Lelouch waited until the car was in motion and his heart was calmed before he even thought to speak again. He hadn't been that anxious since Suzaku stole him away...

"I may have my reservations about the whole surrogacy thing, but...you are carrying out future child. You'll still get paid for that--"he sighed, lacing his fingers together when he noticed his hands were shaking and rested them neatly on his lap.

"I do expect you to start searching for a job and a place to live, we'll house you until then." Did they even have space for another person? Was she going to stay in the room that Suzaku designated to be the baby's nursery? "I don't...I really don't hate you, if that's how it seemed. I'm sorry."

Leah shook her head then realized Lelouch was unable to see that at all. So she figured a vocal confirmation would be best. It was only fair for her to extend the same amount of courtesy that has been bestowed upon her to the two men.

"Yes, of course. I intend to start looking right away. And I can help out around the house house too." She said, feeling so grateful to them. "Is there anything I need to be aware of?"

"Well, keeping the house clean is a major priority, which Lelouch can explain further." Suzaku said, subtly giving Lelouch the chance to explain the rules. They were mostly made by Lelouch anyway.

"Lelouch being with me is and will always be my favorite birthday present."

"He says he wishes to do more for me every year, but he doesn't need to. I don't ask for gifts or material things from him. The only thing I always wish for is for him to remain in my life for a long, long time." It's why they are married now.

The more Lelouch listened, the more he was hearing the similarities. No money to get out on her own, an abusive parent, keeping her under her thumb--this place was her cage.

But she had no one to steal her away.

"Fine," Lelouch got to his feet, keeping a firm hold of Suzaku's hand solely because he was his guide outside of their home right now. In response to the confused sound he heard from Suzaku, he sighed. "Stay with us. You're an adult now, you came willingly. She can't call on abduction charges."

The hold he had on Suzaku's hand told his husband that he didn't want to, but it was necessary...otherwise he'd be a hypocrite.

"We should go while she's distracted, though."

Suzaku had quickly stood up with his husband while still holding his hand. It was risky, but Leah is an adult like himself and Lelouch. He wouldn't get into trouble for kidnapping when Leah willingly goes with them. He needed to have her verbal consent first. It was a lot on the line after all.

"If Lelouch says it is okay, come stay with us until you able to get onto your feet." Suzaku said as he glanced at Leah who seemed stunned about the offer. "Would you wish to come with us?"

Leah didn't hesitate to answer.

"Yes, I do. We can go now." she answered and that was when she followed the two men out to the car. Her mother was off doing her own thing anyway to notice Leah leaving. She was an adult who is free to go now that she has a stable place to go to, temporarily. Once they were quickly situated in the car, she spoke again. "Thank you both. I will help out as much as I can around the house."

Lelouch listened to the girl in silence, his immediate thoughts going to the one still sleeping at home, to his little sister. She...wouldn't be too pleased with his attitude so far toward this poor girl, especially now with what they were just told.

...He felt a little ashamed.

None of this was her fault, and he was still a little irritated with Suzaku, but he was sure that would fade once the child was born. If...he wasn't still scared of being a parent by then.

Though, was she hoping they'd help her out of her situation? Suzaku already had his hands full taking care of him...

"...Do you have any of your own money saved up?" After all, it'd be pointless to help her get a place if she couldn't retain it.

"I..." Leah sighed, her shoulders slumped in defeat. That told Suzaku everything he needed to know. She was being used by her mother on the worst way and manipulated financially. The Knight felt horrible for her.

"Leah... We honestly had no idea of your situation. Lelouch is still irritated with me for making the decision to have you as our surrogate, and I don't blame him." Suzaku gave Lelouch's hand a gentle squeeze in apology. "I am aware your mother has the appointments covered, but do you personally have some money saved?" Implying she is hiding money somewhere her mother can't get to.

"I do...not have enough to get out and sustain myself. She wouldn't allow me to get a job. She says it's beneath a Britannian to get jobs most Japanese people have." She refused to use the derogatory term her mother repeated for Japanese people. "Plus, I'm pregnant, so...I'm trapped for now." Or forever.

Lelouch heard the old woman huff indignantly after she finally noticed that she was intentionally being ignored. When she stomped out of the room, his shoulders subtly relaxed.

"Is there anything we can do to help ensure the pregnancy continues to go smoothly? How are your checkups going? Do you need help with the bills?"

"Everything is fine." Leah bit her lip as she processed the questions Lelouch had asked her. Suzaku watched her, noticing how nervous she became and saw her glance where her mother had walked off to. It seemed like she was checking to see if her mother was out of earshot which prompted her to quickly shuffle over to the two men. They both flinched when she firmly gripped their clasped hands. She stared at them with pleading eyes.

"I'm sorry... I... I lied to you both. Not about the pregnancy. That's real." she whispered to them, tears welled up in her eyes as her voice shook. "But...I never agreed to be a surrogate. Mother was the one who pushed me to be..."

"Why would she do that?" Suzaku asked her in a hushed voiced. The answer would be obvious, but considering how this house was pretty upscale and it's a Britannian one, Suzaku didn't want to assume it's about money. Then again, there were Britannians who want more money just because. There was hardly any Britannian who was struggling.

"She was doing it to get money from not just anyone but...a knight of the royal family. She didn't know you were Japanese." she let out a dry chuckle. "You're still a respectful man regardless of what mother thinks. I guess that's why she hadn't turned you away yet..."

...Imagine having to put up with a crusty old bitter shell of a woman every day. The only solace she'd probably have would be knowing she wasn't a daughter of the Emperor.

And with that, Lelouch might've developed the smallest bloom of empathy for her. Perhaps it could blossom more over the coming months, should he decide to nurture it.

Anyway, for now it was time to ignore the old bat.

"The roads he took weren't very bumpy at all. It's usually the motions of the car and the turns that throws me off."

Leah smiled a little at Lelouch, partly out of sympathy for him. She had no idea what being without sight would do for him in vehicle rides. "I'm sorry. If I lived closer, neither of you would have to take a ride here. I should have known it would be difficult for you, Lelouch."

Suzaku rubbed his husband's back to ease his distress he felt from being in the car. It always worried him to see Lelouch not doing well by his doing even if the car trip couldn't be avoided. And the would have to take the trip back home after this visit too...

"I am glad you both decided to come out here. Um, well, the pregnancy is going well. The morning sickness finally went away. So I'll be able to see you both often very soon, if you're okay with that."

"I am, but Lelouch has to be okay with that too." Suzaku chimed in and Leah let out a confirmation sound and nodded at the Japanese man.

"Come in, make yourselves at home," obviously a formality, as she gestured to the sofa in the living room. "I managed to make tea, even on such short notice."

"Oh, pardon me for finding something simple that would make my husband smile for his birthday," Lelouch couldn't help it. Her bitter tone was still ringing in his ears. She was about to hurl a retort back at him, but the young girl they were waiting on entered the room.

"His birthday? Aw, how sweet."

'...How fake,' Lelouch took a seat on the couch with Suzaku.

Suzaku couldn't help but smile at how he snapped at the woman. It no doubt upset her. The Japanese man didn't care as he rubbed the back of Lelouch's hand as a way of saying 'thank you' to him.

"It's your birthday today, Mr. Kururugi? Happy Birthday." Leah asked, Suzaku held up his free hand as though to signal her to use his first name. He was at least going to be friendly to her.

"Miss Leah, call me Suzaku." he reminded her with a gentle smile he reserved for those who bothered to respect him. "And yes, it is. Thank you so much. And for accommodating Lelouch and myself today."

"Yes. I hope the drive here was okay for both of you. Traffic usually becomes heavy around this time." She said, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear. Then she glanced at Lelouch. "Um...Lelouch, how were you able to handle it? Is Suzaku a good driver? I imagine him to be as he's so careful with you."

Lelouch used his free hand to touch the top of the car, his way to ease himself out even with the assistance of Suzaku. He hadn't been to this house quite yet--she'd always come to them, insisting that she did, due to Lelouch's blindness. When he called her though, she was surprised.

As the pair walked along the sidewalk leading up to her home, the door opened--she lived with her mother, so the elder woman was the one that answered when she saw them through the window. Lelouch couldn't see it, but she was eyeing Suzaku suspiciously.

"Honey, your clients are here," oh, but Lelouch heard that disdain in her voice. Immediately, he already didn't like her.

'Be civil,' Lelouch thought while they were let inside. He made sure to lightly squeeze Suzaku's hand, a subtle hint that he did notice the woman's tone.

Suzaku squeezed Lelouch's hand in return, clearly noticing the obvious signs this woman did not like Japanese people at all. And Suzaku was with a Britannian which definitely added fuel to the fire. Still, Suzaku smiled, though it was strained.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, ma'am." He greeted her and bowed slightly while still holding onto Lelouch's hand. Suzaku needed to keep holding it to stay grounded and aid his husband. "Miss Leah is a wonderful client and we're happy to have her."

'I get the feeling Leah won't feel safe here, especially while nearing 4 months of pregnancy...'
