So I've been kicking this idea in my head for awhile and I vomited out a first chapter.

We are focusing on Daniel Jacobi, sarcasm king, and how he reacts to learning how Kepler died for real.

There will be Lovelace friendship.

There will be Eiffell... more than friendship.

But for now we have... a lot of grief.

Jacobi wailed against the floor of his bedroom. Feral. On all fours. Banging on the ground. Like Persephone summoning a Hades that would never come.

The clock on his bedside table read 2:37am. He could not sleep. Had not eaten since the morning shake he chugged before the little reunion with the surviving Hephaestus crew. He felt sick and hollow and nauseous and dead. He felt like a dead man. Like the pieces of himself he put back together since landing earthside had shattered into dust that could not longer form a human person.
