I'm not sure why a very loud group in this fandom thinks the fucking military is its own independent group separate from the government. The entire point of a formal military is to be armed forces for the governmental body which creates it!

When I was first rewatching thriller bark a long time ago (lol just one piece things), I had a theory about Brook's backstory, and I made a very geeky post about it.

TLDR: My theory is that Brook's backstory was partially inspired by the end of an Opera called Dialogues of the Carmelites, particularly the part where the Rumbar Pirates sing Binks Sake until they all die one by one, because it is very similar to the final scene of Carmelites where the nuns all sing the Salve Regina before they are guillotined one by one. In the end, in both works, only one voice remains.

At the time, I didn't think it would be too far fetched only because Brook is a musician, and Oda loves to reference other major works in One Piece. He might have been looking for some drama, and Opera always delivers on that front. Carmelites is also one of the more known, beloved, and performed Operas of the post world wars time.

Now, we know that Brook is not just a musician but that he comes from Esperia, the land of instruments. I love the thought of all of the musical references we could get. We already got one with the "Moulon Rogues." The important part is that we also find out that there was an Opera House in Esperia, and that Queen Candelle liked going to the Opera. Brook is in love with Queen Candelle, and I am pretty sure she is going to be our tragic heroine like Tosca, Mimi, Madame Butterfly, etc. The list could go on for days. Anyway... Now, I think it is even more possible that Oda watched Carmelites at some point in his life and was so touched by that final scene that he decided to reference it when writing Brook's backstory. When I first made the post about it, I did not attach a recording of the scene because I felt the post was so long already, but I will drop it here this time.
