i only want to live a moomin life. no major worries, growing vegetables, picking flowers, cooking and eating, drinking homemade fruit juices and going to the beach whenever i want. š±
Y'ALL I FOUND A GOOD PLANT WEBSITE
Oh my god how have I not found this before. It lets you toggle between photos of the flowers, leaves, fruits and seeds. It shows a map of where the plant is native. It gives you links to like 12 websites with more info about the plant. Amazing
This website was made by this one guy who is a nerd about flowers
I've only tried to look in the USA so it may not have other areas but this is one of the best resources I've found
(there are a LOT of photographers, biologists and botanists who have contributed to it)
pumpkin bread you son of a bitch idiot
Sitting with a book, Red Clover tea (iced), and a slice of toast covered in mango infused honey.
I've been trying to get back into reading lately, as it was my preferred escape method back in middle school (my father always brags that i was reading at a college level back then. I don't know how to explain to him that even reading longer posts has become tiresome).
I often find myself scrolling through booktok, listening to reccommended book summaries, and internally deciding which ones i would like and which ones i wouldnt.
Sometimes i even find myself in a bookstore. Not often anymore, usually with friends or others who also want to peruse (but not buy) books. I never end up getting those booktok reccommendations, though i do find myself mulling over them and staring. More often than not my lack of a purchase is chalked up to a lack of money for it. That i need money for food later in the week. But sometimes i do have to admit the truth. Whether i buy the book or not, it will very likely not be read by me.
Back when Six of Crows was the most popular reccommendation, i remembered picking it up in my local library a few months beforehand. I never made it through the first chapter. I did find myself wanting to read more, but the usual excuses came up. I dont have the time anymore. Im too busy. Other things need to get done. I ended up buying the book anyways.
Last night was the first time since middle school that i opened a book and did not stop reading because i didnt want to. I happened to know where the old copy of Six of Crows was lying, so i picked it up. Lucky me, i even left a bookmark (this time a few pages into the second chapter) so i didnt have to re-read the beginning for a fifth time.
And now i find myself here, writing out this post. Its long winded, and probably more seriously toned than this blog is used to. But i am proud of myself. It is hard for me to pick up a book and finish it. But i am trying. Thats the most i can say in a long time. I am trying, and it is comforting. Even if i dont end up finishing the book in a timely manner, i know theres a bookmark, and that the story will wait until i manage to pick it up again.
Its been months, maybe even a year since i last read this book. But when i picked up from where i left off, memories of what happened flooded in.
I am proud of myself. This post may be long winded, using more words than necessary to imply the weight that has been my bookshelf staring at me, untouched. But i am proud of myself.

Game sprites and pixel-based crafts
I found these Perler sprites when I was cleaning out some old stuff a while ago. I made them about ten years ago as room decoration.
[ID: three PokƩmon sprites made out of Perler beads standing on a wooden beam: Vulpix, Clefairy, and Bulbasaur.]
The quick tip I wanted to share today is that if you're looking for fun patterns for grid-based crafts, you can totally use old school game sprites and anything else that consists of pixels. Think beading, knitting, cross-stitching, granny squares, quilting,... Anything that involves making dots or squares.
My first cross-stitch pieces were all based on game sprites, for example. We use Final Fantasy-inspired coasters made from Perler beads at home which my partner made years ago. You could probably even make entire blankets by crocheting a granny square for each pixel in a sprite.
[ID: coaster made from Perler beads showing the black mage sprite from Final Fantasty.]
Please don't go out and buy a bunch of new beads after reading this post though! Try to use what you have first, or ask around in freecycle groups if anyone has leftover beads and such.
Also, places like Stitchboard let you create a pattern from a picture. Stitchfiddle lets you create them freehand!
Thank you for sharing these two links!
This is a reminder. I am adamantly against allowing your cat to roam freely outside. I'm very for indoor only, leash trained, catios, or escape proofed back yards for cats. But if your cat is physically capable of leaving your property on its own where it will face predators, cars, poisons, people with pellet/bb guns, diseases, etc, you are an irresponsible owner of that cat.
I don't care what country you're from. No country is completely magically free of any danger to or from your cat. Indoor outdoor cats may be the norm there, but that doesn't mean it's safe. If your indoor outdoor cat made it to old age, congrats it's an outlier. As a vet tech both in general practice and in a shelter I see what happens to most indoor outdoor cats regularly. I have photos I can share, and stories.
You will not change my mind.
I will die on this hill.
If you are upset or angry about this, block me. If you send me messages to say your situation is different, I will block you. If you comment about how x country really is safe, I will block you. I'm sick of this shit.
Since the free-roaming cat people have been crawling into my mutualās posts, a reminder of where I stand. Iāve already blocked 6 people today.
Keep your cats inside -- not just for your cat, but for the sake of all the wildlife outside your door. They've already contributed to the extinction of 63 different species, and are pushing even more towards it. Keep your cats safe, and keep the wildlife safe from them. Win-win.
Hi there! Person with a genuine question here. I am against free roaming/outdoor cats as well, and as a person who eventually wants to own a small time farm i was wondering how people feel about barn cats? I'm hesitant to say im for it as they could get trampled under hooves and such, plus everything mentioned above but I've also heard barn cats are different in this sense. Could someone point me to articles/help figure out how to research this further? Thank you so much for any help!
Barn cats still face all the same dangers and cause the same environmental damage as free-roaming cats do elsewhere unless they can be strictly confined to the barn. They are also not efficient rodent prevention as most cats will not take on an adult rat.
Keeping animal feed properly secured, keeping the floor clean, allowing native predators like owls and snakes, and getting a ratting breed of dog (terriers of various sorts, english shepherd, coursing breeds, etc) are all far better. Especially the dog. But dogs require training which is why people would rather just plunk a feral cat in the barn and replace it when a coyote or hawk eats it, or it gets hit by a car.
Thank you so much! That sums up what i was kind of assuming, but definitely needed clarification on. I just remember taking horse riding lessons at a barn with lots of cats, so its always a question that pops up for me in this kind of conversation. Thank you again for explaining in a way i understand, and have a very nice day <3

more natural dyes: the blue was made with red cabbage + cornflowers and the purple was made with blackberries + maple bark. plants are magical.
