yeah shipping is fun and all but looking back we were literally reading these guys' diaries. idk i feel like having access to william beckett's 3-album-long open wound of consistent (sometimes unrequited) devotion, desperation to make something of himself (entering the industry straight out of high school??? hello???), lack of control, blind faith, and a tendency to self-sacrifice and "go along with" things, even sacrificing their sound to "go along with" pop demand... and KNOWING that they were still not good/promoted well enough to end up as beloved or recognized as their labelmate band with a younger prettier writer (who also got taken advantage of btw #killpw), a guy who never compromised on his art and would rather go out with a bang rather than fall off slowly. knowing ALLLLLL OF THAT. is way more transgressive to me than using a lyric he wrote about being taken advantage of as a teen to fantasize about him getting nasty with the midtown singer. to me.

It's wild to me that people treat addiction like it's the addict's fault for having a weak character or something, and on the other side of it we have "addiction is a disease," which is an objectively better model of thinking but it's still treating addiction like it is in and of itself the problem.

All of the major models of addiction ignore this. Not just the moral and disease models. Addiction is also not just physical dependency and it's not just drugs r fun and enjoyable. It's extremely annoying how every model in psych still ignores the whole "what if life sucks" thing when explaining "why" we become addicts.
