"the people who are against me are antifa" is a strange roundabout way of admitting you're a fascist, but thank you for finally admitting it anyway.

I think one of the kindest things you can do for people with various mental health struggles is just... let people back into your life after they've been absent for a while.
Making friends as an adult is so fucking hard already and isolating yourself from other people is a very common symptom of depression, anxiety, burnout, ocd, trauma, grief, etc. Which means that someone will do the hard work of recovery/healing and resurface back into a world where their previous friends have written them off because they stopped showing up.
So if you know someone where you're like "yeah we could have been better friends but they fell off the map a bit" and that person suddenly reaches out, or starts showing up to events even though you kind of forgot they were still in the group chat... well they may have been Going Through It and you don't actually have to punish them for their absence you can just be glad that they're back.
Needed to hear this today.
as much as I cannot handle being perceived yes this tracks
stop using chatgpt!!!! take a bronze pin and carve your questions onto an ox scapula, then toss it into the fire!!!! use the cracks to divine the gods answer!!!!
citations still have to be APA 7th edition though. if you plagiarise, the gods will flood the yellow river again. and you'll lose your academic standing.

That's kind of why they exist actually
you should care about kids because they’re people, btw. not because they’re “future adults” but because they are people right now and they need to be to be treated like people.
(edited to change “deserve” to “need to be” because “deserve” has bad connotations)

“the mind of a medieval person was foreign and incomprehensible” factoid is false. the average medieval person was pretty normal. the chivalric death cult, whose members were known to literally die if prevented from riding to war, was an outlier and should not have been counted
On hearing of Anjou’s death, a tailor of Orleans named Guillaume le Jupponnier, when “overcome with wine,” burst into a tirade in which can be heard the rarely recorded voice of his class. “What did he go there for, this Duke of Anjou, down there where he went? He has pillaged and robbed and carried off money to Italy in order to conquer another land. He is dead and damned, and the King St. Louis too, like the others. Filth, filth of a King and a King! We have no King but God. Do you think they got honestly what they have? They tax me and re-tax me and it hurts them that they can’t have everything we own. Why should they take from me what I earn with my needle? I would rather the King and all kings were dead than that my son should be hurt in his little finger.”

I went looking for more information on Guillarme le Jupponier, and found this article, which points to a slew of similar speeches in European and US history-- and, crucially, the fact that Guillarme le Jupponier was released after that speech, not tortured or executed, because it was acknowledged that his sentiments were extremely common.
Studying nearly 1,100 rebellions in France, the Low Countries and Italy stretching back to 1200 the historian Samuel Cohn discovered that instead of hat-in-hand deference, “genuine, heartfelt hatred for a king or queen is easy to find.”
can we pause on that? 1100 rebellions?!?
So I looked this up and the book Samuel Cohn wrote on this is:
Popular protest in late-medieval Europe. Italy, France and Flanders.
It covers the period from 1245 to 1423, so 178 interesting years.
It gives details on about 130 rebellions with lovely titles such as 'The people of Carcassonne attack a royal castle', 'The Roman people popolo kick Luca Savelli out of town', 'Domestic servants of the Governor of Cortona attempt to kill him and overthrow the government' and Regime change in Siena six governments in five months'.
Speaking of medieval history, it's fun how the popular accounts are all "the peasantry disliked nobles, but typically loved the King and attributed any harmful decisions to bad advisors", and then the rare examples of surviving testimony from actual peasants are like "I hope the King literally explodes".
Popular histories: Medieval peasants understood themselves as inhabiting a cosmic order in which the King was their divinely appointed superior.
Actual medieval peasant: God, please set the King and everyone who looks like him on fire, Amen.
Out of curiosity do you recall offhand any of the latter sources? I want to read medieval peasants hating on their rulers :)
This Tumblr thread has a fun anecdote about Guillaume le Jupponnier, and links to an blog post with some more. There is also a promising source in the form of Popular protest in late-medieval Europe. Italy, France and Flanders by Samuel Cohn.
I must say that it may be more accurate to say that the medieval peasantry is not a monolith. They can hold every possible opinion. But yeah, hating the king is a time honored pastime.
"oh boy a new character i like, who's pretty obviously vision-impaired even though canon didn't really acknowledge it! i can't wait to go on tumblr and reblog some awesome fanart of them!"
the total lack of image descriptions:
new low achieved: saw people talking about his vision impairment and also not describing their fanart of him in the exact same post
anyways if you're going to draw or otherwise post about a blind or low vision character then you need to either learn how to write image descriptions, or learn how to reach out and ask volunteers to help write them for you. you need to consider the real life disabled people you interact with on the internet, because they are in fact here.
if you struggle with writing image descriptions for whatever reason (your own disability, second-language speaker of the language you'd be describing in, anxiety about doing it wrong, etc), then that's nothing to be ashamed of, but just to repeat the above for emphasis: there are many ways to ask people to write IDs for you, and you should take advantage of them. in an ideal world, all posts should be described, but if you have limited time or energy, you should prioritize posts that are about blindness or blind characters (or even better, posts about disability and/or disabled characters in general). there are resources and crowdsourcing efforts that want to make this easier for you, so please use them!
if it wasn't clear already, i'm sure that the frequent inaccessibility of posts about blind/low vision characters (and more generally, disabled characters) comes almost entirely from ignorance, rather than from active malice — but it's, like, still not a great look to be posting about a character losing an eye, but never writing any image descriptions or alt text for those posts, you know? not in a "let's rile up an angry mob to cancel you about it" way, because that's shitty, but in a "hey, friendly reminder that if you're that obsessed with that character, you can probably also learn how to write IDs so real people with similar disabilities can experience your posts" way. if you didn't know before, that's okay, but the important part is that now you do. and you can do things about that
this time i'm reblogging this post because of a different vision-impaired character (this time with actual canon acknowledgement!) than the one i originally made this post about, which truly goes to show that the fandom inaccessibility problem is dire. write image descriptions in general, but if you're still learning or have limited energy, prioritize writing image descriptions for vision-impaired characters!

the annoying thing about weightlifting is that you have to lift weights that are a little too heavy for you if you want to get stronger. and you have to push yourself outside of your comfort zone in order to keep building muscle. fucked up.
thank god this same principle doesnt apply to any other skill you want to improve at! that would really suck.

i'm not immune to older korrasami
it's wild how quickly and easily people will pedojacket you for defending childrens rights. I've been called a pedophile for saying 'i treat sixteen year olds like adults.' I heard a podcast recently where the host got looks for saying 'i was playing in the pool with some kids' as if thats not an imminently normal place for both adults and kids to be.
it's also worth noting that this is intentional. the constant accusations of pedophilia and grooming are built specifically to prevent adults (and especially queer or marginalized adults) forming solidarity with kids, or from treating like anything other than things to be avoided.
