6 years of My Little Pony art

2020, redesign of Celestia and Luna for an AU I was doing at the time. (14y)

2021, OC for same AU. (15y)

2022, Second Ponysona. (16y)

2023, Third Ponysona, redesign of my first ever Ponysona I made when I was 8. (17y)

2023, First ever fanart of the mane six! Despite being in the fandom for 15 years this was the first piece of fanart for g4. (17y)

2025, Practice for drawing ponies again. Also experimenting with a ponysona redesign. (19y)

2026, Fourth ponysona design! Quite happy with this design for now, it will probably change a bit here and there but I’m hoping this one will finally stick. (19-20y)

god I can’t believe how the years went by, this show was a HUGE part of my childhood. It would have exploded my kid brain to know that as an adult I still loved this show and to see the art I’ve made around it, hell I think even teenage me would have been equally ecstatic to know I still loved this pastel horse show for kids. This show has carried me through so much, just knowing the ages I made these pieces during I’m so proud of my younger self for carrying through and being so passionate towards a ‘kids show’ despite my toxic environment and fake friends at the time. Of course now I’m in college and I’m actually watching g4 with my new amazing friends all over again!

Okay but for anyone who legit wants to know how to calculate it correctly:

The elbow joint on average rests a couple inches higher than the navel, so if you measure how long the distance is from the middle of the shoulder to that point then you have the length of the upper and fore arms!

So if anyone’s wondering about legs too, the simplest rule of thumb is that the length from the top of the leg to the knee is equal to the distance between the top of the leg and the bottom of the pectorals:

And I wanna stress that when i say “top of the leg” i’m not talking about the crotch (please don’t flag me tumblr it’s an anatomical term) i’m talking about the point where the femur connects to the pelvis, which is higher up on the hips:

It’s easier to see what I’m talking about in this photo of a man squatting:

So yeah if you use that measurement when using this technique you should get fairly realistically proportioned legs:

But remember! messing with proportions is an important and fun part of character design! Know the rules first so you can then break them however you please!

Somewhere along the way my younger self decided that April was the month of pony, so to make some late celebrations I’ll post some sketches of my ever changing ponysona

the newest rendition of them is Phthalo! They are an ancient and rarely seen race now scattered across Equestria and beyond, they have features of a deer, unicorn, and Kirin/Qilin.

I might make more lore posts about Phthalo, or I might make posts on my writing blog about a MLPg4 fanfic I prepare to write. Whichever comes first it will probably be rebooted in my main blog with the Phthalo tag or some sort of MLP/month of pony tag.
