The former detective blinked in surprise. Why is he happy? It was strange to him, brow furrowing slightly. Perhaps he thought too harshly of himself, thinking the world was better off with him gone.
Was he wrong though? The public forgot so quickly. Did they even put out a search for him? The second detective prince was old news barely spoken about.
“Heh. A thief had his phone stolen?” He can’t help but smirk, briefly amused to find someone had actually managed to trounce the great Akira. But the amusement seems to be wiped off his face almost as soon as it’d come. “It’s vexing to me.” His tone is dry as he explains, “I should have died that day in that man’s palace. But here I am.” Aimless. The plan he’d spent years on had ended in failure and he killed all those people for Shido… for nothing. Disgusting as a lot of them were….
“You say that like I wasn’t aware it was happening.” Decaf retorts, voice a combination of amused and infuriated, while his expression was a frustrated sort of not-grin. “Got cocky and did something stupid, got locked up for a couple days for it, and now that asshole has my phone locked in a box so I’m stuck out here and the Den is-!” He rants, getting increasingly agitated - until he cuts himself off with a frustrated groan, running a hand through his hair. Taking a slow breath in. Calm down. Control yourself.
“Slipped up and got punished for it, that’s all.” He finished with a shrug, in a much calmer tone than moments beforehand. “Did you know we’re not the only Persona users? I didn’t. I do now, but apparently there’s others out there just waiting for people to make a wrong move.” Arms crossed, expression irritated - the picture of antsy frustration. But there’s another sigh, and he gives Goro a look, one that leans in the direction of sadness. “If it means anything, I’m happy you’re alive. Killed me to watch you do that and not come out after.” In more ways than one. He wondered if Goro would pick up on it and if so, how he’d react.
Those red-brown eyes of his just stare cooly as decaf throws a bit of a fit. A far cry from the cool headed leader of the phantom thieves, then again perhaps this man wasn't even the Akira he knew. Stranger things have happened.
"I see. You must have been awfully bold if you got caught." A brow is raised as he wonders how metaverse work could have even been seen. However, he is soon given an answer. "No, I thought it was a rare ability... in fact I originally thought I was the only one with such power." And it was a foolish assumption but he was only about 14 or so when he got it... there was so much he hadn't known.
He sees that look. Pity? Sadness? It made him squirm just a little. Looks like that always bothered him.
".....I suppose it does mean something. Were you really that broken up over me? You know what I've done. Your friends spat it in my face." That he was a killer and the phantom thieves aren't. That wasn't the only thing that varied between them though. "Or... perhaps you decided to do something after I 'died'." His eyes narrow a bit, thinking. His detective abilities weren't for show, he could suss things out easily enough. "You've certainly changed."

He’s probably the worst person at comforting but seeing her like this he clears his throat and takes a step closer.
“Miss Sakura, are you… well, I suppose you aren’t alright. Can I be of any help?”
She found herself in the midst of a slight anxiety attack since she talked about how she used to be. It was still a bit traumatic for her to think about. What she didn’t expect was to see Akechi of all people asking if he could help her. “N-No, I’m fine, d-don’t worry about me. I-I’m just a little bit upset right now is all.” It was more than a little bit upset obviously.
"I see..." he frowns a bit, thinking. If this had been a while ago he would have put on the ol' detective prince charm and acted out the role of comforter. But that's not him. He isn't using a mask now.
"Do you want to talk about it...?" His tone is a bit hesitant, a lack of confidence that was strange coming from him. He moves to sit down nearby, keeping her company.
“…Just relax and calm down, take a few deep breaths. I won’t become like I used to be ever again…I can’t…”

Goro is no stranger to prying eyes. Back when he was a ‘star’ people would often stop and stare. Pester him for a photo. Plead for an autograph… a part of him actually missed that attention but those people were never there for the real him.
This stare, however, felt different yet also familiar… the eyes of a thief. A rival. The only thing that felt off was the color- yellow- the eyes of a shadow.
“Well, I certainly hope I’m real, Kurusu.” He replies with a bit of sarcasm, crossing his arms over his chest as he looking the other man over with a scrutinizing gaze. “Yes, I’m Goro Akechi, in the flesh. As vexing as that is.” Sometimes he would have preferred to stay dead… but werewolfism makes that difficult not to mention something… else… he isn’t sure what. Perhaps a miracle helped pluck him from his so called father’s palace.
“Vexing? For who? Certainly not for me - sorry to disappoint, but this is the best thing that’s happened to me in weeks~!” He responds, grinning - a grin that fades somewhat as he continues- “Not good enough to make me less pissed about my phone being held hostage, but still.” Alive Goro Akechi. Real, alive, true. Not his - he doubts it’s his. But that doesn’t matter - at least one Goro survived, which gives him hope he might find his one day, too.
“Thought I might’ve been seeing things - or worse, somehow dragged a cognition out here.” Decaf said, hands in his pockets. Watching. Eyeing. Not letting himself relax on the off chance this was something dangerous. Plus, Even if it wasn’t, it was Akechi. He had no guarantee Akechi would approve of the path Decaf had taken. “That statement though - ‘vexing’? Why that word? Need some help kicking some guy in the teeth?”

@corvidmutt, because I think it would be great fun for these two to meet))

Decaf is staring - yellow eyes focused intently on the man he’s spotted. He’s not doing anything else, just kind of… watching. Blatantly so, because he’s given up caring what people think if they see him, but he hasn’t seen a ‘Goro’ in… ever, he thinks. So it’s agitating something inside him to see this one - alive, whole, still here - and makes him itch for Shido to still be alive so Decaf can kill him a second time.
“Got a question that might sound weird.” Decaf asks, finally. Still just kinda staring. “You’re real, right? Not a.. hallucination, or something? Some sort of escaped cognition…? Unless you’re a look-alike.”

Day 19
Angrily squeaks in your direction
Day 33
I will keep my promise.
“Can we be nice to Akechi please? Please?”
"I'm fine, Kurusu. Unless you mean the other me. But I'm sure he's also fine."
corvidmutt:
“W… we both…?” He raises a brow. “Are you serious? That’s a crime, doctor.” Says the actual former assassin but shh.
“Think about it this way: If reality resets anyways after the 3rd, then what we did doesn’t matter! Sooo, let’s go rob a bank!”
"No, that's not how it works...." he rubs his temples. "I'm trying to commit less crimes not more." Only less, Goro?
corvidmutt:
“……” a long hard stare is given by the former detective.
“I think you ought to rob it yourself then.” Goro NO.
“Alright alright, how about this? We BOTH rob it.”
"W... we both...?" He raises a brow. "Are you serious? That's a crime, doctor." Says the actual former assassin but shh.

“From where do you suggest I procure money on such short notice? Would you like me to rob a bank?” He crosses his arms and sighs.
“Yes! Anything for curry.”
Maruki don’t just say something like that with a smile on your face, what!
"......" a long hard stare is given by the former detective.
"I think you ought to rob it yourself then." Goro NO.
@corvidmutt says: “I don’t have money???”
“Then???? Get some????”
