The road to recovery is a long one, and the doctors told them that in all likelihood he wouldn't walk again (as one does not simply just walk away like nothing happened from getting hit by oncoming traffic, especially with shattered leg bones). But he's stubborn and determined to try despite this. Although Perpetua might even be more stubborn than he is, it turns out. Not leaving his side, becoming borderline obsessive about his care—they had just found each other again, and they weren't about to lose him now that they had.

If anything, it makes up for some of that sibling bonding that they missed out on over the years. Important milestones, like first steps it would seem.

Good job! as they take both of his hands in theirs and lead him in his agonizing baby steps, words which should be frustrating and patronizing only causing Cardi to puff up and try harder on his wobbly legs.
