Ah shit, it's library anon. Reading your last post about to prepare a hell yeah till you got to the illegal in different parts of the world part. I'm USA based so I roll my eyes at antis constantly because:
- crimes cannot be committed against fictional people
- a fictional person's honor, dignity or safety cannot be defended due to obviously not existing
- an author can be annoyed by outside depictions of their intellectual property but the few copyright lawsuits against fan works are primarily about money or libel. Nobody has ever been sued (successfully) for a Dead Dove fic with 500 hits in 10yrs or weird porn featured on Rule34
- Fuck the police but at least the literal authorities (FBI, police, etc) have FAQ pages saying to stop reporting fictional depictions of crimes due to all of the above. Taboo art and writing does not equal anything actionable on a capital level
- It all boils down to 'Thought Crimes'. There's literally over a dozen well known sci-fi stories that depict how shitty thought policing goes
But yeah, that's not true in a lot of other places. Trying to harass and possibly ruin someone's life over what? Pencil drawings or a fic they object to on some loosely defined moral level? Get bent AND pound sand, Twitter losers.
hi again, sunshine! ♥️ you're absolutely right but here's the catch – it doesn't work like that everywhere, like you said. i never been in America, so sorry bc idk how your laws works, but i sure as hell know how it works here.
in my country lgbt = extremism. any mention of it can count as propaganda. and my drawing 120% fall under criminal criteria.
here you can just hit like button on smth like that, and if you're unlucky enough for someone to report you or you end up on fbi's radar – good if you only get a massive fine.
and yeah, someone could ask "then why tf do you even post this?" – i do it anonymously and stay under the radar. if no one notices you're fine. but if someone reports you? they WILL come for you.
there was a girl who almost got 6 years for drawing body-positive and art and stuff against sexualization of women. they went after her for "spreading pornography" (she drew a vulva and posted it). eventually charges dropped, she left the country. that was before the anti-lgbt law. you'd think laws don't have retroactive force, right? not here :) now the case is reopened. if she comes back they'll lock her up under the stricter "extremist" anti-lgbt law (bc she is also lgbt activist) and i doubt it'll stop at 6 years.
that's just one case. so i def wasn't exaggerating in my post.
when you're scared to even open your mouth 24/7 (in case someone reports you), and "traditional values" propaganda is leaking from every crack – when smth like this happens, even in anonymous online spaces, it gets terrifying. just because your nerves are fried and your brain refuses to work.
i get that people in free speech countries probably don't think about this, and fr i'm genuinely happy for them, no sarcasm. but people need to use their damn brains when they do shit like this.
