Hookwolf is very pointedly the only nominee who actually left town with the Nine, because Shatterbird had him fucking pegged. His entire background is that he shopped around for an ideology that would validate and vaporize his pre-existing desire and competence at hurting people; the white supremacism was an outgrowth of that, and after a handy mind wipe, it was a lifestyle the 9 could just as easily accommodate. Which is the point: the grand narratives on display in Hookwolfs interlude are a thin veneer of easily-shed, self-serving, post-hoc bullshit meant to disguise that he and his were already operating basically on the nine’s wavelength to begin with. (You may notice that any time a Nazi character is given any level of focus or internality, you always see this vast gulf between their self-image and their objective behavior; A close read of the book indicates some level of disdain for Nazis, oddly enough.)
