Why I Love Writing Plays #39: INSTINCTS
It felt great being in the rehearsal room again. I've always felt like an obstruction to the director / actor relationship. But I guess over time, I'm more comfortable about being a collaborator. And in that mode, I got to experience another reason why I love writing plays: following one's INSTINCTS!
These could also translate to Choices, but I'm more into instincts because they follow the concepts of doing something via muscle memory even though it's the first time doing something in rehearsal. It just feels like a vibe to try something without trying. It feels Jedi to say or thinking about it. And I love seeing an artist's humanity come out through instinctual actions or words. I guess that's why I don't trip that much when actors don't nail every written word. When I'm in the audience, I'm watching a character react to situations... not a script. But it is cool to know that my script put these actors there to tell a story.
