That’s not the comparison you’ve heard

“Anger is like fire,”

everyone else says

“Smoking, growing, roaring hot,”

“Fire.”

But to me, anger is like water

It’s always there, never dead

Just calm.

And like a stone throw,

it ripples.

And another rock

another stone

a bigger wave

and then it crashes,

and it breaks,

and there’s a flood over the dam

leaking out of my eyes,

tears down my cheeks

tsunami in my eyes

whip on my tongue

You think i look pathetic

because you have always connected water with weak

fire with rage

But my water is pulling back

back

back

and you will turn away because my water is gone and all you have is dry land

And then it builds.

It’s not just everyone becoming more complicated. But some of it is. It’s not loving because they are good, it’s loving because they are good despite everything they want, everything they wish for. The hate will always seem superficial though, won’t it? With villains you can never connect to, just beings that grab and break and never give their reasons?

And then you learn.

These beings above aren’t doing it for much. They don’t even care for the gems at all. The pain of everything that happens on the earth seems so small to them because they don’t care - they never have. The gems are just inconsequential little tools that he got attached to, and are simply the lunarians’ to pull away. They aren’t beings, no, no, just a way to apply punishment to him. All of it for him.

When it’s put like that, no wonder they hate him. But he loved them, and he protected them, and he did his best. He was not - is not perfect. How could he be?

And then they hate him. And to the reader, it makes no sense? Certainly they could not hate him for his existence [but they do. Of course they do. They have been through too much that they can consider his fault]. And it feels unfair. So we hate them because we could never hate him. And they notice how no one else is really on their side. Because they - just like us - are on his side.

And then he cares too much - again. And they hate him for it and they break him for it and they ask him to pray. And that’s just too much, isn’t it? Everyone is filled with hate after that, aren’t they? For people they loved, trusted? And everyone breaks everyone else, and they’re sorry, and none of it matters because they want it all broken. They want a world shattered at their feet.
