On the subject about parents needing to control their child's reading and invade their privacy in order to "protect" them from "inappropriate material:
Until I was in....college? At least? The vast, vast majority of the books I read were either a) assigned by my school or b) (the vast majority of my reading) provided to me by my mother.
My mom is a librarian. She filled our rooms with books, picked especially for us. She pointed out books on the shelves in our home library (separate from our bedroom shelves) that she thought we would like. She bought us books for birthdays, Christmas, and just stacks of recommendations. She once paid me $10 to read one of the Cirque Du Freak books because she said I needed "to be exposed to bad literature."
She respected my privacy in room, didn't go through my belongings. She explicitly pointed out to us that she wouldn't know if we took a particular book of the shelf, as long as we returned it, if we didn't want her to know we were reading it. She purposely brought us books that she didn't care for herself, because she thought we might find them valuable or enjoyable.
And if we wanted to read something she thought might upset or disturb us, she would explain why. She wouldn't stop us from reading it - just ask us to check in with her, to talk through it.
And so when I read something that upset or disturbed me, I would go to her. She would listen and talk through it with me.
If she said she didn't think I would like something, or that a book might disturb me, or that she thought I should wait until I was older, I listened to her.
She didn't need restrictions or control to protect me. Because she proved I could trust her.
Controlling kids is never about "protecting" them. It's just about control.

The upshot of people demanding others put their age in their bio is. Frustrating. And annoying. "What if you're a minor" what if I'm old enough that I was raised not to put my goddamn personal information on the internet. What if that.
When I first got on the internet the number one thing they told us was to not give any real info. A/S/L? I gave a different answer every time honestly, why not? There's no reason anyone needs to know even inconsequential details about me if I don't want them to know...
The fact that I see children posting not just their full legal names, ages, and the town they live in, but also every trauma they've ever had and an exhaustive list of their mental and physical illnesses, just terrifies me.
Your little 'DNI' list is meaningless of someone actually wants to scare/hurt you, and you've given them every bit of ammunition to do so..
For real. I put up fake favorite COLORS in my early internet bios. This shift to using your real names everywhere... minor or not, honestly... horrifies me a bit.
"hurts because i need to move more" and "hurts because i need to not move it at all" should really be different sensations. i should be able to troubleshoot my own body without just picking one and seeing if that makes it worse.
I'm ambidextrous in the sense that either of my hands could be just as easily trained for any task, but I use my right hand for almost everything because the world is built for right-handed people. I frequently forget that it's a thing before someone goes "wait, are you left-handed? :0" when I'm in the middle of something, and I look down and the tool I was working with is in my left hand. I've just been doing the left-hand side with my left hand and right-hand side with my right, and it literally didn't occur to me that this was a dominant-hand-only sort of a task.
It's genuinely a foreign thought to me that there are people who strictly have only one good side. Like oh yes, here are my upper appendages: Handy Hand and Limb.
