That made it so the aristocrats and Church, which each had one vote, could veto anything, even if literally 90% of the entire population supported it.

We have that in the US. Think about it. How many times has Trump tried to act as if he's a divinely ordained leader? How many times have America's POLITICIANS done that?

Further, the candidate people overwhelmingly support (Sanders, IE the representative of the Third Estate, the majority of people) gets constantly shoved aside so that a member of the first estate (aristocracy) who pretends to represent the third estate gets the chance at leadership.
