Vote for progressives. #DSA #ZohranMamdani
Democrats, are you taking notes? This is how you get shit done.
using violence to liberate people from sweatshops, unsafe mines, and grinding poverty isn't the same as using violence to impose those things on people. the idea that violence is morally repugnant regardless of context is a belief that every oppressor throughout history would love for the oppressed to hold

Your favorite food would have been a parfait made with berries that went extinct during the last ice age, long before domestication or fermentation had ever been invented.
Your favorite food would have been a fish found only in the waters off the coast of a small island in the Mediterranean at the height of the Roman Empire.
Your favorite food would have been a steak grilled over a campfire by a cowboy driving his herds to Kansas. Sally was his favorite heifer—gentle as a lamb until she broke her leg. The cowboy wished the world could be a gentler place.
Your favorite food would have been a recipe made by a poor man in Indonesia who dreamed of opening a restaurant but had to work in a factory for slave wages.
Your favorite food would have been a cheese handmade by an old woman in the Andes Mountains. She never had children—nobody to pass her recipe on to.
Your favorite food would be a burger made in a diner in a small Midwestern town you will never visit.
Your favorite food would be a cross-species of a cross-species of a genetically modified vegetable made by a biology grad student two-hundred years from now.
Your favorite food would be a spice ground from the dried remains of a species of algae that can only be found in the oceans of an exo-planet millions of light years away.
Your favorite food would be a milkshake made in a roadside diner built out of the remains of a thousand-year-old generational ark ship orbiting a gas giant in the Andromeda galaxy. They've been cloning the same cow for centuries, so her milk always tastes exactly the same. Her name is Sally.
Every time you catch yourself going, "Fuck, are humans just inherently evil and naturally inclined to selfishness and harm???" you HAVE to remember that that's literally a core ideal of Christianity.
So if it feels inescapable and like evidence of it is everywhere, whether at times or always, that might just because you're in a Western country where you're surrounded by Christians who believe that, fundamentally, in their worldview. And also they talk and make art about it all the time and run the vast majority of news outlets. And spent over a thousand years burning any art or texts that disagreed with them. Etc. etc.
If you're gonna come to as drastic and painful a conclusion as that, at least take the time first to make sure you're not working with biased evidence (surrounded by too many people and cultural products that believe original sin is real)
And if it turns out the feeling WAS partly the result of cultural Christianity, then hey, that's great news, because it means there's that much (and it really is SO MUCH) less evidence that humans inherently suck. Which is good, because we don't
you also have to remember that the ruling class has been using christianity as an ideological tool to justify themselves for more a millennium and a half. the broader term for this ideology is ‘thin-veneer theory’, ie that there is a thin veneer (the church, the state, etc) keeping us from giving in to our true, savage, nature. the idea that people are brutish selfish and cruel is a myth that is deeply baked into every aspect of western society. it is used to justify the state, the rich, police, wars, slavery, inequality, and just about every other cruelty you can imagine. but the evil you witness or perceive is a result of those systems, not a natural or inevitable state of affairs.

"And he gave it to me for free, Bob!"
I saw this on bsky last night and had to draw the guy
D&D Campaign Idea:
A mysterious event transformed all living creatures in The City ™ into Doppelgangers. Some people have embraced the change, transforming freely into the form that best suits them; others have shirked it, only using their newfound powers to change into their original form. Animals became feral doppelgangers that haunt the sewers and the slums.
The City government is desperately trying to maintain a system of bureaucracy not equipped for a city of shapeshifters. The church went from hunting monsters like this to an organization run by them. Everyone wants answers, but not everyone wants to fix this. Rebellious teenagers. Thieves' Guilds. Evil Cults. There are groups, good and evil, who have very good reasons to want to establish a new city atop the ruins of the old.
Enter the party.
Will they discover what caused The Shift? Will they attempt to undo it? Or will they help the rebels burn it all down?
At the end of the day, my thoughts on job hunting are that it's incredibly stupid how every fiber of our current socioeconomic structure is screaming that you MUST have a job and nothing else matters because you MUST be working and that's the only thing of true importance so never forget that you MUST have a job, and I'm like damn okay so I'd like a job, can I have one? And the answer is No

"Before you go there is something I need to tell you. It will not be easy for me, because you won't understand. The best I can hope for is that it will make us both laugh, not at the same thing, but more or less in the same way."
- Keston Sutherland
A lot of people don't realize just how much space car infrastructure takes up. So I've decided to provide everyone a visual aid!
I've presented two maps at the exact same zoom level, as indicated by the big red arrow. They also each have a red area circled, of approximately the same area.
In the first image, I've circled one of eightish parking lots at a US mall. A normal amount of distance for even Americans who drive everywhere to walk through.
In the second image, I've circled:
a subway station
a park
like twenty apartment buildings
like twenty restaurants
three convenience stores (which, being Japanese, can also handle banking, copying/printing, and a variety of governmental paperwork)
one grocery store (another two right outside the circle)
seven medical clinics, two pharmacies
a fire station
a post office
two preschools and three cram schools
a Shintō shrine
a Buddhist temple
multiple parking lots and a car dealership
This wasn't even a particularly cherry-picked part of Tokyo! I just picked the area around my house.
