As pride month begins, let us not forget our Palestinian brothers and sisters.
[ID: Several screenshots from Queering the Map of pins in Palestine with the comments people left.
1: "I’m from rafah and she’s from deir al balah, she got married later and i left gaza strip, to this day i think of you, to this day i wish to be back to sleep with you in the same bed, i want you to call for my name again, i wish if i can be with you again my heart. بحبك وبالرغم من الي صار دايما في بالي."
2: "Realizing the feelings i had for you were more than adoration, realizing that wanting to see you everyday, to be with you and talk to you, for you to call me by my petname that you gave me, i miss you beyond words can describe, i wish if i had the courage to tell you but again i was scared, I didn’t want to cause you any trouble. Now both of us outside gaza strip, but much far a way from each other, بحبك وبخيالي انتي كمان بتحبيني."
3: "I wish I could watch the sunset over Gaza sea with you. For one night I wish this occupation was no longer and that we could be free for once on our own land."
4: "This is where I first fell for you. It was 2021, the last major Israeli bombardment on Gaza. You never knew you were the reason that I first listened to my favorite bands or watched Portrait of a Lady on Fire. everything comes back to you. now you are a student abroad and Israeli occupation bombs may take everyone and everything you ever loved away. Your mom, your home, your memories. I am so sorry the world failed you. that your mom, sister, best friends, everything is lost in this genocide."
5: "Idk how long I will live so I just want this to be my memory here before I die. I am not going to leave my home, come what may. My biggest regret is not kissing this one guy. He died two days back. We had told how much we like each other and I was too shy to kiss last time. He died in the bombing. I think a big part of me died too. And soon I will be dead. To younus, i will kiss you in heaven."
6: "The place where you died, even though we were only penpals, I love you to my core, 5 years of the best friendship. Ahmad died of the airstrike, you died of heartbreak. Khalid, love you, loved the way you came out to me, how I came out to you, how you introduced Ahmad as your boyfriend, I wanted to share your hurts with me, but we're seas apart, I'll free Palestine just for your eyes. I hope you rest well in heaven, kiss Ahmad all you want, and be very happy, in this life or another I'll follow you, and we can unite, I love you to Icarus and beyond [growing heart emoji]"
7: "A place were I kissed my first [crush]. Being gay in Gaza is hard but somehow it was fun. I made out with a lot of boys in my neighborhood. I thought everyone is gay to some level."
8: "I've always imagined you and me sitting out in the sun, hand and hand, free at last. We spoke of all the places we would go if we could. Yet you are gone now. If I had known that bombs raining down on us would take you from me, I would have gladly told the world how I adored you more than anything. I'm sorry I was a coward."
The last one is in Arabic: "الاشي الوحيد يلي مصبرني على العيشة بغزة هو البحر و انتي". The last image is a screenshot from Google Translate showing its translation: "The only thing that keeps me patient in Gaza is the sea and you". End ID.]
Wanted to bring attention to the fact that Bisan called for mass protests today (April 1st). It’s okay if you can’t march yourself, but please make it a point to spread this so that those who can march do so—and also take this as your own checkpoint to ask yourself if you’ve been faltering in terms of sharing information about Palestine, doing what you can to fund humanitarian aid in Palestine, and staying informed as to the ongoing genocide in Palestine. Some might say it has been 6 months of this, but to me that’s all the more reason to make noise now more than ever. This is one of very few spaces on the Internet where Palestine has not been abandoned in people’s endless efforts to dehumanize Arabs. Please continue amplifying the dialogue surrounding this genocide. Free Palestine. Free Palestins always.
Adding that today marks the first day of Arab-American heritage month. As an Arab American I feel it’s my duty and responsibility to keep the momentum around this going—but I also feel like it’s everyone’s responsibility as human beings to advocate and agitate, regardless of where they’re from or where they live. Arab or not, it bears being reminded that this boils down not to ethnicity but to humanity. I worry that we have become so desensitized to these soaring numbers of massacres that we have forgotten that what we’re fighting for is the basic right of Palestinians to live—and to do so freely on their own land. Please remind yourself of this any chance you get. Again: shedding light on Palestinian genocide is imperative now more than it has ever been.

I will be queuing this post for every day this week. IDs in Alt text!
frankly, the people whose kneejerk reaction to bisan asking for a global strike form the 21st-28th is to say that it takes years to organize a general strike are really unhelpful! no one is saying otherwise, but palestine will be a smoking crater if we all wait for years to do anything - bisan is asking us to do something now. Like are we only supposed to do something if we can do it perfectly??? At some point it’s a valid critique about the work that goes into social movement, and at another point I feel like some people are just trying to absolve themselves from not putting any effort into observing a week of economic inaction.
like idk! I get it, okay! People have bills to pay that don’t magically go away for a strike, we don’t have nearly enough social infrastructure in place to support people to fully stop going to work for a week. But fuck, dude! Stop immediately responding in such a defeatist way! Cut out unnecessary purchases! Try to shop local! Put more effort into promoting Palestinian voices online! Attend a protest, call a local rep, do something!
Ultimately, the context of this (these) calls are different than ignorant calls for a general strike in the past for a few reasons:
1. It is being called for by someone affected by the situation. Social media calls in the past have often been called by people unconnected to the struggle or without any sort of connections to the work or others involved in the fight. Who are you calling for a strike? What is your role? Which gets into
2. Demands. With these calls for a strike, there are specific demands coming out for those in power to respond to. It’s not general dissatisfaction with capitalism, it’s not vague response to bigotry and oppression, there are goals. Ceasefire. Flow of humanitarian aid. End of occupation.
3. Very crucially, there is a spectrum for what is included in the general strike and a blatant recognition of how there isn’t time to prepare. Take off work (if you can), don’t go to school (if you can), don’t spend money (if you can), keep up pressure and protest (if you can), amplify Palestinian voices and sources, continue boycotting.
“Well I can’t call off work.” Neither can I, but there are items on the list I CAN do. Many people can’t attend protests but can pressure their reps. Many can’t pressure reps but can spread word on social media. Or financially support Palestinians. Or babysit for someone going to a rally. Or or or.
My law school once had a walkout. Those who couldn’t walk out wore something to show support. Signed petitions later. Pressured admin. If you “can’t do anything,” show support for those who can.
This is NOT the same as disorganized naive calls for strikes with no goals, no planning, and no thought.
Do not treat them the same if you cannot do everything asked. And do not waste your time asking Palestinians to forgive you for what little you can do when you could be doing any of the shit on this list instead.
images from @wizard_bisan1 on instagram. The people in Gaza are calling for another strike.
What to do: Don't go to school. Call out of work. Don't grocery shop. Find actions near you. USPCR keeps a running list of protests happening. Put your money where your mouth is and buy esims. Donate to mutual aid groups near you helping protestors who have been arrested. Watch the news, videos, and images coming out of Gaza. Call, email, and write your reps (uspcr is great for that as well as the 5calls app)

Angry about Thanksgiving (US)?
Yeah, okay, Thanksgiving is really about genocide. Yes, most of us know this. Did clicking “like” and “i agree” help you? If you’re a minor, sure, there isn’t really much you can do… right now… besides share memes. That happens. And if you’re actually really broke (like when I lived in my car, but still had library internet access) okay, please, save back your money for your phone. That’s your lifeline. But if you’re about to spend $200 on Black Friday deals because you’d really like some unnecessary stuff? There are a lot of actual First Nations groups that people can support this Thanksgiving! You don’t have to just nod and share. If you have $5 to spare, and you’d like to donate someplace on Thanksgiving, these can all be good places to start. - Red Lake Nation rice, jams, popcorn, and more redlakenationfoods.com/ - Native Scents Inc. nativescents.com/index.php Sage, sweetgrass, and other herbs
- Tumblr-user @tainbo has an awesome online shop AND a sale running right now! Allll the birb shirts, lots of stickers, beaded and resin jewellery. - MIGIZI migizi.org/ A non-profit educational group in Minnesota, particularly dedicated to Native history + Native students thriving now - The woman in charge of Fisheries at the Sipekne’katik Nations office, a Mi'kmaq tribe of New York + Canada (I think they’re in Nova Scotia), can tell you about their discrimination with Canadian Fish + Wildlife and their issues being denied ability to access food and hunt/fish their own foods sustainably. If you want to give money to support their self-sustainability efforts, contact Monica at [email protected]. - A thread about Navajo Rez life and some fundraiser links at the bottom. thurisazsalail.tumblr.com/post/635049734962380800 You have a lot of options, actually. Also, “boho” people: consider buying your dream catchers from actual Native sources year-round, not just the cute thing on sale on Etsy. Lots of actual Natives sell on Etsy and other shopfronts, of course, but buy real Native-made stuff and support real Native/First Nations people when buying into Native-made items.

PSA: Halloween is pretty much here and it only takes on second to send a sick child in the hospital a Spook-o-gram. The best part about this is that $1 gets donated to CHLA’s Helping Hand fund each time you send one out. So let’s help some kids have a spectacular Halloween by sending them spook-o-grams and helping cause!!
This literally costs nothing but your time so please do it, you could make a kids Halloween.
Most of the “keep up the work after the protests have ended!”-type posts I’ve seen are mostly focused on like, reading Black authors and listening to Black voices and unlearning racism, and obviously all of that is absolutely vital - but no amount of individual self-reflection will be able to dismantle institutional systems of oppression. So I wanted to put together some resources for continuing to build a culture of noncompliance and resistance to the police and prison system even after things have calmed down
But first, be aware that the protests aren’t over. It’s June 29th and there are still events and actions being planned regularly across the nation, and they still need your participation and support. If you’re able, please keep your focus there; this list is for what can be done long-term outside of the protests
Know your rights. Giving the police any more information than you absolutely have to will never and can never benefit you or anyone else - positive evidence given to the police is regularly thrown out in court, whereas negative evidence will be used against you. Know what to say and what you have the right to refuse. You don’t have to answer any questions without a lawyer present, you don’t have to give the police access to your house or car unless they have a current warrant signed by a judge. They will try to intimidate you - learn your rights and don’t let up, don’t ever cooperate with the police
Don’t snitch. If you see someone breaking the law in a way that doesn’t hurt anybody, keep your mouth shut. If cops knock on your door asking you questions about your neighbors or anyone you know, don’t answer
Don’t call the cops. If you can solve the problem in a different way, do it. Cops have on multiple occasions murdered the people they were called to help (or bystanders) without provocation. Don’t be complicit in that. Learn how to handle situations as a community or with the help of qualified experts
When you see an interaction with the police happening, stop and observe. If necessary, film the interaction. Organize and work with groups such as Copwatch to observe the police and hold them accountable
Use proper opsec, especially if you’re involved with anything that might make you a target for the cops. Downloading Signal is a great simple place to start
Learn about jury nullification, and spread the word. When serving in a jury, you have the right to vote not guilty on a defendant that you believe did commit the crime but doesn’t deserve punishment for it. Don’t be complicit in unjust punishment
Refuse to do work for the police or prison system. Workers keep the world running and the state relies on our compliance to keep our neighbors under their thumb. We can shut it down
Continue to support bail funds, even for non-protesters. Cash bail is unjust, and people shouldn’t be in jail just because they can’t pay
Continue to support legal defense funds as well, such as that of the National Lawyers Guild
Write to prisoners, either by yourself or with groups such as the Anarchist Black Cross or Black And Pink, and organize/support books to prisons programs, commissary funds, reentry programs, and other forms of prisoner support
Organize and support community-run crisis response organizations like the CAHOOTS program in Eugene, Oregon or the Birmingham Peacemakers in my hometown
Here are some other organizations to join that are doing good work in this area:
Black Lives Matter is obviously a huge voice in racial justice right now. The list of “official” chapters on their website is very incomplete, though, so you may have better luck doing a web search for “[your area] black lives matter” (beware of fakes though)
Showing Up for Racial Justice is another very active and widespread racial justice network
Critical Resistance is a grassroots prison abolitionist organization founded by Angela Davis
The Revolutionary Abolitionist Movement is another active prison abolitionist organization
The IWW’s Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee works with prisoners to organize strikes, phone zaps, and other actions combating injustice in prisons
Again, the Anarchist Black Cross does great work supporting political prisoners through letter-writing and more. The link I’ve been including is to an unofficial federation of ABC groups, though - there may be a group in your area that’s not part of that federation, so a web search for “[your area] black cross” may be better
Black And Pink is a prison abolitionist organization focused on queer people and people living with HIV/AIDS
Antifascism is of course an important aspect of racial justice and community safety. See @antifainternational‘s guide to getting connected to your local antifascists - though, again, beware of fakes (the “antifa checker” accounts on fedbook and twitter can help)
The police state and prison industrial complex rely on the complicity and cooperation of all of us to function and be effective. By building a culture of noncompliance and active resistance, we can drastically reduce the state’s ability to oppress communities of color. Don’t let the struggle be forgotten with the changing of the news cycle - keep up the struggle until all are free!
Boosts and additional resources are very much appreciated!
