where is that renaissance painting with those two fellers and a giant fucking random skull on the floor that looks like it was accidentally stretched out in photoshop
THANK YOU
somebody please explain
Someone once told me itâs like that because it was designed to be hung in a stairwell so the skull pops out as you walk past.
âŚI guess it works but you have to be at a pretty sharp angle
There was a whole trend at one point where artists would include something in their paintings (usually a skull, for whatever reason) thatâs super distorted in just the right way so that it looks normal if you hold the painting up to a convex/concave mirror. I have absolutely no idea why. But I think thatâs whatâs going on here.
In case anyoneâs curious, hereâs what it looks like when you walk past it irl:
It does have a 3D effect to it! Itâs pretty neat, guess it would be even more impressive to people from the 14th century.
honestly, people just looking at the skull are missing the real deal here
You can read any implied text you see in this thing, even the book, thatâs how detailed it is. Look at the painting on those letters!
jesus christ youâre just showing off now, Hans!
HANS OH MY GOD
anyway, the skull apparently had some meaning about the transcendence of death, you can only see it clearly when you canât see the world clearly and vice versa, but man, Iâm all about the detail in this guyâs shit
No, I think youâre missing the real deal here
as an art historian, i think this is the best post on tumblr

They had the balls to stand up and take a penalty.
They had the balls to stand there and take on the goalkeeper.
They had the balls to go up even when they knew if they failed they would be abused.
I am so proud of Saka, Rashford and Sancho.
They do not deserve to be racially abused because they had the balls to do something the abusers couldnât do.
someone please get sued for monetizing destiel smut so lawyers have to read from it in front of an entire room
i wish the whole tory government a very eat shit and die the fucking fascists
STORIES that embarrass the UK Government could land journalists in prison under proposals to change the Official Secrets Act, it has emerged
keep the backlash coming. our government cannot keep getting away with this.
unrelated but people that have ADHD and no other learning or developmental disabilities really shouldnât be saying the r word. from my own personal experience, the people iâve experienced the most ableism from irl are. other people with ADHD and nothing else, usually on the account that i âdonât act like themâ and so iâm just a freak. idgaf about the r word discourse in general because iâm not going to go around saying it for shits and gigs but seriously. if youâre someone with adhd and no other developmental disabilities i honestly donât think itâs your place to be saying the r word.
No one say r word is use to be word for intellectual disability and now change no one supposed say r word hate that word get call mental r word or just r word because got intellectual disability make lot lot upset some doctor place still say mental r word and mean mean mean just no have intellectual disability not allow say who allow say or no and not know any one like tay think okay say r word am just mean bad bad not say that not say that am adhd autism learning disability nothing all different then intellectual disability and r word turn mean worse word how come change be intellectual disability
When you get this, please respond with five things that make you happy! Then, send this to the last ten people in your notifications (anonymously). You never know who might benefit from spreading positivity
Hey anon! Thanks for this.
My first is that I'm getting my braces off at the end of September â it'll just be nice to have them gone.
Second is baking! I've recently started and I've already made some cookies that were really good, and I'm going to make some for my mum's boyfriend's family soon.
Third is being around my brother.
Fourth is writing. Yeah, it's frustrating at times but it's also very very rewarding and I love coming back to old pieces and just knowing I did that. Especially fanfiction, because I can publish something for other people to enjoy!
And fifth is dogs. Huskies and German shepherds specifically, because most dogs are cute but those are my favourite breeds. Have a photo or two:
[Image ID 1: A brown and black German Shepherd puppy lies down in a garden. It is tilting his head and looking towards the camera. End ID]
[Image ID 2: A husky lies on a wooden floor. It is relaxed and its head is also resting on the ground. End ID]

you guys just really desperately want to separate the symptoms of being autistic from being autistic so that you can mock and abuse autistic people while pretending it has nothing at all to do with the fact that theyâre autistic.
Telehealth is literally the access all chronic illness patients have been waiting for. It took a worldwide pandemic for doctors to realize that they could simply pick up the phone and do like 80% of their appointments. And yet the doctors still complain. Thatâs accessibility for you.
Flashback to two summers ago when my DISABILITY office at my college refused to have an accommodations appointment over the phone. They made me drive two hours one way to have one little 30min appointment. And now, with the pandemic, they only allow appointments over the phone. đĄđ¤Ź
itâs wide hitman walking wednesday
In unequivocal terms, the UK is a police state. We have just lost our right to protest (if they are deemed âannoyingâ - which will be interpreted to be any protest the government doesnât like). This means anyone in the UK might face prison for exercising our right to protest.Â
Please, please Iâm begging non UK folks- to simply know this.
If the right to protest was lost in the US itâd be all over the internet. But nobody is here for UK folks.Â
This is just as trans people and gay people and marginalised races and poor people are being hit with economic and social harm and are more likely to protest.Â
Know about us- make sure the UK government is shamed for what it is doing. In the meantime, the UK citizens have some violence to plan.Â
The English government has always been this way. Chartists werenât even protestors for the most part, they were literally people who signed a petition to Parliament (mostly to do away with things which were pretty obviously corrupt, like pocket boroughs), and the government responded to their mere existence as though they had uncovered a army of Guy Fawkes clones clutching bombs, and that was in the mid-1800s.
No it hasnât. Sorry but this is not the time for generalised lamenting using 150-year old instances of revolutionary reform as examples. It has NOT always been this way.
This is a NEW development from Boris Johnson, who is a dangerous fascist. We have had the right to peaceful protest for over a hundred years, and yes, of course the government has found ways to agitate them before. But this is now literally enshrined in law, and those of us not taken in by his funny clown hair and cult of personality have been watching this coming. This is being combined with crackdowns on everything from Celtic nationalism to cuts to trans health are and rights, and thatâs not even touching on what this government has done to disabled people in this country.
Donât handwave the actions of specific fascists and fascist movements as âOh but the country has always been like thatâ as your excuse to dunk on the country. This is a call to arms, not an âAh wellâ.
@becausegoodheroesdeservekidneys Thank you for speaking out on that! Itâs especially pertinent on my blog, a diabaled Welsh speaking trans man (technically homeless but has access to reliable shelter). So many people have been clowning on my post but Iâm glad you recognised it as a call to action, because it is.
As it stands, the bill affects England and Wales, but, say, if a Scottish person happened to be protest in England, its likely theyâll be arrested too. Local police services arenât picky about who they pick up.
It might just be possible to arrange protests to the bill in Scotland, which would mean folks can rendezvous there. I have some ideas, but Iâll have to get in contact with an anarchist cell up over the border.
Iâve lost my original post on this but earlier this year I made a post about the handwaving attitudes people give towards the UK. (And it must be said, as an anarchist, continually having to refer to the UK is tiring enough).
Heavy agree! Iâll be honest, it really nettles me when foreigners turn up on posts like these and pull this shit anyway, because if you donât actually live in the country being discussed maybe keep quiet and just amplify peopleâs voices who do?
But in general it bothers me that Tumblr is so fixated on âlol England/France is Just Terrible so ehâ because like⌠marginalised people exist in those countries, and not only do they not deserve to be treated like their overlords, you are literally minimising their calls for help and telling them nothing will change because Thatâs Just How It Is. This is a new development. This is a bad and terrible development that is the precursor to even worse and more terrible things. We need to fight this.
Okay, so letâs see, here:
Original post: This is a message specifically for people outside the UK!
Me: Comments from outside the UK with instance of English history, identifying the villains as the English, and more specifically the English ruling classes.
You (in this and other reblogs not shown here): I hate when foreigners dare to comment on posts about the UK, they just donât understand how things are here, they donât know how Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland are mistreated by the English and just lump us all together, theyâre all so ignorant!
It seems to me that, while you may have a point in general, this was a very poor time for you to pull that particular reaction.
Sweet Jesus, what a missed point
Oh, I did get your point. I disagree with it, Johnsonâs criminalization of dissent isnât anything new and thereâs a lot of history to show that. The Chartists were an apposite instance to cite but not by any means the only one I could have used â the country which gave the world the actual Riot Act (among other things) is not one with a history of tolerating dissent. But if you had stuck to that point I probably would have mentally noted âthis person, like many people in the UK (and most in the US, this is not by any means limited to your country), is in denial about their countryâs long history of social repressionâ and just fallen silent, because in general I like your blog and donât particularly want to get into an argument with you.
But the whole âif you donât live in a country you should never comment on its politicsâ thing is ridiculous and stupid and usually hypocritical (I havenât noticed any shortage of European posts mocking Trump over the last 4 years, for example) and is a particularly bad reaction here, where the original post specifically was addressed to people outside the country. If you (and OP up there) donât want comments from outside your country, then either (1) donât use social media where the replies are a large part of the point, go make a plain old blog and turn off comments on the post or something like that, Wordpress still has free hosting, or (2) donât specifically address people outside the country. No, people donât owe you a commentless reblog.
Okay. Since you have decided aggression, insults and condescension are your communication, I shanât bother trying to be nice anymore.Â
The solipsism and arrogance of this is breathtaking.
Firstly, no, Iâm sorry to say your reading comprehension is dogshit and you havenât understood a word. Here, in your own words, is your interpretation of this post:
Me: Comments from outside the UK with instance of English history, identifying the villains as the English, and more specifically the English ruling classes.
You (in this and other reblogs not shown here): I hate when foreigners dare to comment on posts about the UK, they just donât understand how things are here, they donât know how Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland are mistreated by the English and just lump us all together, theyâre all so ignorant!
Let me say this as simply as I can.
THIS POST IS NOT ABOUT THE ENGLISH VS THE CELTS.
This whole issue is not âHurr durr English are bad Celts are good.â
You literally pulled a single line out of everything I said to try and turn it into that, because you ego is apparently as fragile as a DDT-affected eggshell and you couldnât handle the suggestion that maybe, just maybe, your contribution was valueless and unhelpful. And you ignored every single other thing that was said in order to cling to it.
Your galaxy-brained take that all of England forever has been exactly like this is is straight-up wrong, and ACTIVELY UNHELPFUL. I am sorry you cannot handle being told that.
But fuck me sideways, âthis person, like many people in the UK (and most in the US, this is not by any means limited to your country), is in denial about their countryâs long history of social repressionâ.
The arrogance. I am Welsh, you dumb cunting thunderfuck. I am very literally better educated on my countryâs long history of social repression than you could ever be. I am the culture that directly bore the brunt of it. Not only am I directly educated on it - not only could I give a thousand more examples than you - I live in a culture that still experiences it today. The Chartists? You want to USsplain the Chartists to me? I am from the town that saw the Chartist Revolution gunned down. The bullet holes are still in the walls. My great great great grandfather was the fucking squire at John Frostâs trial. I know nuances of this, through both education and lived cultural trauma, that you never could.
So when I tell you that our shiny new fascist government is backsliding us at gathering speed into a fascist nightmare, and that bringing up historical events to hand-wave it as âjust what England does amiriteâ is both wrong and unhelpful when we are trying to deliver a wake up call about something that is happening right fucking now, I mean it, and you can take your obsequious, disgusting temper tantrum and fuck yourself with it, along with the tedious âboohoo people were so MEAN about TRUMPâ chip on your shoulder.
In any case, if weâre bringing other posts and reblogs into this? Iâve seen your comments on posts of mine a lot, and you have literally never contributed a single thing of value on any of them; youâre the quintessential asshole determined to shriek your uninformed and frankly uninteresting opinion at everyone despite having nothing of worth to say. But after this? Yeah, weâre done. Off you fuck and enjoy your block, you hostile and stupid little gnome.
You absolute gem, you @becausegoodheroesdeservekidneys - as another person who lives in Wales (Aberystwyth) and speaks Welsh, that other commenterâs response boiled my blood.
Diolch yn fawr iawn fy ffrind. âni yma o hyd. Youâre always welcome on my blog
Diolch! Ac fiân mor sori fi âdi torri ar draws dy bost bwysig gydaâr bullshit âma, gwelais i goch, maeân ymddangos. Fiân teimlo tipyn bach yn eog am y peth nawr, dylwn i âdi cadw popeth yn preifat mwy na thebyg. Ah well. Good post, OP!
Can people stop lecturing us on how our fucking country works
Anyway the fascists in the Tory party are currently working on changing the official secrets act so that journalists who embarrass the government will be treated like foreign spies and face up to 14 years in prison
This is not normal this is the creeping spread of fascism across the U.K. by a xenophobic and isolationist government
In unequivocal terms, the UK is a police state. We have just lost our right to protest (if they are deemed âannoyingâ - which will be interpreted to be any protest the government doesnât like). This means anyone in the UK might face prison for exercising our right to protest.Â

oh no, itâs fine. but i have watched news stations dedicate hours to how terrible women are for loving selfies; how itâs vapid and stupid to want to record moments with your friends, how posing and duck lips isnât a symbol of a system that punishes the unbeautiful but instead a symbol of how vain women are
oh no, but in every action movie, for no reason, the camera goes up around and down a womanâs body, but somehow doesnât show her face. girls in bikinis dance in the background of climates not suited to the display.Â
i take a picture of myself in a bikini. i stare at it and feel at once vain and ugly. at a party, i turn the phone so we can all fit in. a boy that wasnât invited says aloud in an obnoxious voice, âoh, us girls gotta take a selfie.â i put the phone down.
vain, vain, vain.
âI love my brother and usually, we get along really well, but when it comes to women, heâs totally focused on looks. He thinks that a perfect body is essential. I donât want him to get hurt, so I try to make him understand that looking perfect alone doesnât make her a great girl, but he never even listens.
