A heart so soft, a mouth that never talks

when they first discover him, while Data calls him "he", everyone else says "it", even though Lore is Data's mirror image. including Geordi. and Data doesn't even correct them.

even after he's been assembled and regained consciousness, Picard keeps using "it". this is when Data finally corrects him.

everyone appears to use "he" for Lore from that point onward... until he goes rouge and Riker calls him "it" again.

almost like not behaving according to what is expected of him makes him unworthy of personhood - even if it is just subconsciously.

Lore is familiar with the treatment he received here. the colonists treated him the same way, so Lore decided that the Enterprise crew deserves to die the same way the colonists did.

it might've been more than "just" the objectification off-screen. by the crew, and perhaps also by the civilians on the ship. maybe they made the same comments about him that the colonists did- condescending ones. maybe they talked over him. made fun of him in away that would fly over Data's head, but not his.

he didn't want to feel like he was on Omicron Theta again. so he tried to escape it the only way he knew how.

makes me wonder if they still viewed him as a lesser android in Brothers and Descent, one who hasn't earned the right to personhood. although they do stick with "he", as far as I can tell.

bonus moment that shows how irritated everyone is by something Lore can't control.
