a sentiment i come across on here fairly often is "are you a family abolitionist or were you just abused as a kid" which like. 1) god forbid we try to find structural solutions to mitigate interpersonal violence towards the most disenfranchised people in the world. and 2) the violence from parents towards children is only one type of violence within the family form. there's still all the structural (racist, classist, sexist, ableist, homophobic, transphobic, etc.) violence that goes into maintaining this structure. it interfaces with every other form of oppression out there. open your eyes!!!
Let me know if this is a derailing sentiment but I am a family abolitionist because I had wonderful parents and spent my whole childhood horrified by every other family dynamic I interacted with. I had more autonomy and rights over my own body and life than most if not all of my peers, purely because my parents viewed and treated me as another equal individual. And I was very aware of this, especially when I felt the automatic loss of some of those rights I considered naturally mine when I went to school. It is a radicalising experience to be enfranchised and view the disenfranchisement of everyone else. The discrepancy between how I was treated vs how even quote unquote 'normal families' treated their children was so stark it was impossible for me to ignore.
im gonna actively start killing people over how inaccessible so many things are if you do not have the ability to use both hands
sometimes you have to sit down and decide "do i think this was a bad narrative choice or is this just the part of my brain that wants to see all my favorite characters end the story perfectly happy and thriving." and its surprisingly hard to tell sometimes because that part of my brain is loud as fucccckkkk.
mobility aids and glasses should be free for everyone
people need those to live
MEDICATION SHOULD ALSO BE FREE ACTUALLY. PEOPLE ALSO NEED THAT TO LIVE
ok i get the sentiment from people in the notes and i do agree with it but this is specifically a disability post
THANK YOU

I told someone today that they are important. It broke my heart when they told me "no one has ever told me I am important before." If no one has told you, you are important. You specifically, are important. Your existence matters. Your life matters. You are important.

My spouse and I were talking last night and the jeans problem came up so I want to talk about it with tumblr here.
The jeans problem was the favorite lecture one of my philosophy professors in college gave about the history of jeans and how it ties into capitalism/mainstream culture absorbing and monetizing any counterculture it encounters. So prior to the 1950s jeans were mostly an item of work-wear that you wore on the job as a farmer or factory worker or miner because they were cheap, durable, and hard-wearing. If you were off the job you'd wear what we'd call now dress pants or slacks. This changes in the 1950s when youth culture start wearing jeans as regular clothing, again because they're cheap, durable, and hard-wearing. But then jeans get absorbed by the culture and we start getting designer jeans, acid-washed jeans, pre-ripped jeans, and now we got people shelling out hundreds of dollars for "povertycore" aesthetic. And now jeans aren't even cheap, durable, and hard-wearing.
This came up because my spouse was talking about thrifting and spooky things (two of her favorite things) and how there was this trend of buying a landscape painting from a thrift store which was probably going to end up in a garbage dump and painting a sheet ghost on it to make it art millennials would like. But now you can go to Michael's or Home Goods or wherever and just buy a landscape painting with a sheet ghost on it, mass-manufactured by a corporation. The counter-culture once again being monetized and absorbed by the culture. It's the jeans problem again.

I can't quite explain it, but Clue (1985), The Princess Bride (1987), Galaxy Quest (1999), and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023) are all the same genre
They aren't a spoof (roast) or a love letter (tribute), but a best man's speech; an expression of love with a gentle ribbing on ocassion.
there is nothing a corporation hates more than having employees, but a close second is having to provide a good or service in order to make money. these two reasons concisely explain is why the ai bubble formed in the first place.
believe me if grace and rocky could be in the same atmosphere theyd be all over eachother

I've seen the first 3 seconds of this and scrolled on so many times and only now do I see my mistake
just as a reminder to all, the real Quileute tribe was not consulted whatsoever on the twilight series and had a lot of their culture just fully lied about & made up, which is not a remotely harmless act. you should donate to fund their cultural preservation and moving of vital centers out of tsunami zones! i try to throw in a few bucks any time i watch any twilight related media.
further reading: i am by no means an expert on this topic but lets all learn something real together today!

truth vs twilight (archived site made in response to the series)
as of 2018 there are only 808 members of the tribe. twilight is the single biggest spotlight theyve gotten and all it did was "lol these native people are like, a kind of magic animal. not even really human. lets use their name and never give them a single cent of this multimillion dollar franchise"
