basically, my bank account was overdrawn after i bought my textbooks for the new semester, and i was praying my last paycheck would get me back in the green, but i only worked one shift before vacation. “professional bar” is the direct deposit from my work for the next two weeks

Today, all people on SNAP got their FEBRUARY benefit early. If you get January benefits you should still get them on your regular benefit day, provided it’s before (I believe) the 27th. (I may be wrong on that)

But yes, January and February benefits have been given out.

There will be no March benefit. Unless the shutdown ends and the 2019 budget is passed and the budget contains funding for SNAP.

The SNAP program has run out of money. There is no money for food stamps because the budget was not passed. In his tantrum over the Wall, Trump is starving us.

If you know somebody on Food Stamps, and you have some extra money, consider passing it their way. But also be prepared to help in March, and April and so on, if the shutdown doesn’t end, or if the budget does not contain SNAP funding.

the  self  directed  doubt  that  flits  through  sam  is  like  an  outcropping  of  feathers  billowing  in,  inhaling  a  birds  nest  –  his  heart  is  a  ball  of  twine,  delicately  threaded  in  mason’s  hands,  and  her  damp  eyes,  and  her  grit  teeth,  the  bubbly  accentuation  of  her  poppy  voice  descending  into  a  low  ignominous  stutter.  her  grip  on  his  open  lapels  wavers,  sliding  across  the  thin  cotton,  dropping  to  painfully  claw  at  herself,  her  face,  then  the  jut  of  flesh  and  bone  beneath  her  breasts,  as  if  she  wanted  to  rope  something  out  of  her  lungs,  tear  out  her  pain.  

sam  wishes  he  could  do  it  for  her,  wishes  his  angular  frame  and  big  hands  could  provide  enough  comfort  to  ball  up  her  pain  and  shovel  it  out.  but  there  is  nothing  he  can  do  but  offer  his  wounded  heart  and  open  hands,  all  pecked  out  like  a  corpse,  all  ripped  and  eaten.  

all  he  can  do  is  hope  that’s  enough.

this  terror  is  a  deep  thorn  in  sam’s  heart,  a  garden  impending,  threading  out  from  the  core  of  the  vena  cava—every  night,  it  grows  further  out,  brushes  the  walls  of  his  ribcage.  today,  he  wakes  in  a  cold  sweat  with  HIS  voice  in  the  lobe  of  his  ear,  sam,  sammy,  soon.  sam  is  upright,  big  shoulders  tense  and  bare  after  a  warm,  soothing  evening  with  mason,  her  hair  curtaining  her  face  when  he  glances  over  at  her.  she  stirs  when  he  shifts,  and  he  curses  himself,  inheriting  the  blame  for  rousing  her.   

‘  i’m  okay.  go  back  to  sleep.  ‘  sam’s  voice  is  but  a  weak  murmur,  and  unconvincing;  mason  sits  up,  sleep-dazed,  her  hair  frizzing  around  her  soft  face.  his  wounded  heart  lurches  in  delight  and  horror  both,  comforted  by  her,  petrified  by  what  waits  on  the  horizon.  as  if  on  cue,  or  in  response  to  these  feelings,  she  lays  her  hand  against  him  and  moves,  swinging  up  onto  his  lap.  there’s  no  sexual  intent  behind  it,  sam  judges,  and  relishes  in  the  intimacy  as  her  arms  lock  loose  behind  him.
