the bad part of criticizing netflixvania is that people will try to lump you up with the conservative dudebros, and while I'm open to exploring and expanding the original source, what truly irked me away was the horrible queer representation and shallow feminism in the show. Honestly, I couldn't make it past the threesome between Alucard and those japanese hunters, one of the worst "bisexual" reps I've ever seen
It is deeply, deeply frustrating. I hate Alucard's "threesome" because it's nothing more than shock value torture porn - which clearly worked, as the scene has become infamous for all sorts of reasons - and it's disgusting how Deats went on record to say "yep this means Alucard's bi! :D" because it comes across like the real reason Alucard's attracted to men is to "soften" that he was assaulted by another man, when in the story he always treated the not-twins in a platonic way. But you can't say that because then you get lumped with the legit homophobes whining that weh weh alucard took it up the ass, they made him a f-slur, childhood ruined!
(a mentality that, if I may, reflects in how differently the Lenector scene is treated. That one's okay, and in fact it's kinda hot, you know :) because Lenore is conventionally attractive and Hector fucked her the way a man should :) in fact, Hector counts too in how the majority of people who have an issue with him start from a place of "the OG was a thundercock gigachad while this one is a pussywhipped emasculated simp", while I'm here crying and sobbing and constantly talking about the rape apologism and victim blaming of his storyline and I don't want to be associated with those people who clearly agree with the show's rancid views on victims.)
Don't get me started on how difficult is to criticize Isaac and Annette in the show. I hate Isaac and I hate how pretentious he is and I hate how much of a blatant creator's pet he is and yes, I hate that he's a black Muslim, because mixing those traits with Isaac's intended characterization that he started with creates a Islamophobic caricature, a hypocrite who simps for his white master and intends to commit anthrocide in the name of the Quran until he swerves at the last minute to masturbate about himself. And his design sucks ass, and I am calling it homophobic in how they castrated the OG Isaac's iconic campy looks to make him more "serious". But I don't want to be associated with those who just complain about "blackwashing" and "muh black people in Europe" because fuck you that's not the issue here! Or how Annette is clearly discourse bait, especially in S1 (nowadays I could just point to N!Lady and say that she's like that, a nothing character who was designed in a lab to be controversial), and how I resent how she takes Richter's spotlight despite him being the alleged protagonist with an alleged legacy to grapple, and I find her very unlikeable in how she's allowed to parade her trauma around and see herself as stronger than her friends when no one calls her out for her mistakes. But I was called racist for not liking her, and I can see why, because there are people who only hate her for being black and opinionated! I've seen those grifters myself! It's infuriating!
I know I'm just one person, but I always try my best to explain my issues with the show in a way that can make it beyond doubt that they go beyond "muh christianity", "muh Grant" or "muh woke". Because there are, on a writing level and on a themes level. NFCV is a terrible product that pats itself on its back for being "deep" in how it "humanizes" murderers and rapists while painting their victims as idiots who had it coming, or how it replaces one female stereotype (the kind Virgin Mary-like caretaker) for another (the sassy dommy mommy who takes control of their pathetic man's life) while not addressing the root issue of not seeing women as people. And I refuse to let those grifters paint the picture that the only people who have an issue with the shows are bigots because clearly the shows are that peak that only idiots can dislike them.
