Newport Beach, one of Orange County's crown jewels, turned into a war zone on Independence Day 2026. Thousands of outsiders—mostly teens and young adults bused in or Ubered from LA and the Inland Empire—overran the Balboa Peninsula, sparking fights, hurling illegal fireworks at cops and bystanders, looting a Pavilions store, and leaving mountains of trash behind. Police declared an unlawful assembly, shut down the beaches, and made roughly 100 arrests. Officers on horseback charged in to restore order as the mob spiraled out of control.

This wasn't locals celebrating freedom. Longtime visitors and residents called it unrecognizable—pure ghetto behavior from people with zero respect for the community, property, or the rule of law. Weak parenting, decades of soft-on-crime California policies under leaders like Gavin Newsom delivered exactly what conservatives have warned about: the collapse of civilized norms in once-safe enclaves.

Fireworks rocketed into crowds. Fights spilled into streets. Debris choked the sidewalks. Officers got injured breaking it up. This is what happens when failed big-city culture floods nicer areas and faces no real pushback. Blue policies import the dysfunction, then tie cops' hands while taxpayers foot the bill for the cleanup.

This should definitely be the way it is.

1. Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office. And no more perks go with them.

2. Congress (past, present, & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

3. Congress must purchase their own retirement plan, just as ALL Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise at the same rate as the COLA for monthly Social Security recipients minus 1% if having a budget balance deficit.

5. Congress loses their current care system and participates in the same health care system (Medicare) as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people (i.e. NO MORE INSIDER TRADING!!!).

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women. Congress made all these contracts by and for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor and privilege, NOT a career.

The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators should serve their term(s), then go home and go back to work … not get all kinds of freebies. Term limits of 2 terms and treat them like a regular citizen!
