Strange as it may seem, I still hope for the best, even though the best, like an interesting piece of mail, so rarely arrives.

i cannot stress to you how important it is to listen to your own heart and to live your own life. don’t allow yourself to be influenced by what other people are doing. move at your own pace. if you want to take a gap year, do it. if you want to keep living with your parents, do it. if you don’t want to drink alcohol, don’t. if you’re not ready to have sex, don’t. living someone else’s life or giving into peer pressure will get you in trouble or down a path you wish you hadn’t gone down.

One of the hardest decisions you’ll ever face in life is choosing whether to walk away or try harder.

There are people less qualified than you doing the things you want to do simply because they decided to believe in themselves. Period.

Never discredit your gut instinct. You are not paranoid. Your body can pick up on bad vibrations. If something deep inside of you says something is not right about a person or situation, trust it.

The way you make people feel is your reputation.

Appreciate everything. Appreciate every small moment, every little thing. Appreciate the way your mother’s embrace makes you feel safe and the way her smile is so pure. Appreciate the way the sun rises every morning and the way the stars light up the entire sky at night. Appreciate the smell of coffee and the sound of rain and how it feels to flip through the pages of your favorite book. Appreciate the way summer breeze caresses your skin so gently as if it’s afraid of breaking you. Appreciate the way strangers walk down the street, each of them lost in their own little worlds. Appreciate the way kids smile when you make eye contact with them or the way they shyly look away. Appreciate the way people talk with so much confidence or the way they stumble upon their own words. Appreciate the dimmed lighting of the street when it’s 3 am and the way silence can be so soothing. Appreciate the way your friends laugh and the way they make you feel lighter when you’re sad. Appreciate them when they’re full of life and dancing around to their favorite songs and the way they curl up on their beds and cry their hearts out and allow you to be there for them. Appreciate the people you love in all their moments, appreciate the way the sunlight hits their eyes and the way they talk about the things they like. Appreciate those summer nights when you’re out with your friends and your soul feels like it’s dancing and those winter night when you’re under your covers and your heart feels safe. Appreciate every moment, every second and every little thing. Appreciate life.
