🕵️♀️TOPIC 1: DOING THINGS THAT DON’T SCALE (Blog 5: 1/2)🕵️♀️
MA. CARLA C. CACHUELA || BSN-2A || ENTREPRENEURIAL MIND
👩🏫 MINIMUM VIABLE PRODUCT (MVP)
“Think big but start small”-Nick Swinmurn 🤵
In the first lecture, I am once again enlightened about a new concept in entrepreneurship. The term MVP has greatly impacted my view of my startup journey. Moreover, learning about the backstories of some recognized companies such as Air Bed and Breakfast, Dropbox, and Zappos.com has taught me about the importance of the validation process wherein the product will be tested in the real market conditions and with the everyday consumers to evaluate its performance.
✍️ In addition to this, I also noted from the Eric Ries 🤵
that “a startup is not a consequence of good genes or being in the right place at the right time. Success can be engineered by following the RIGHT PROCESS, WHICH MEANS IT CAN BE LEARNED, and IT CAN BE TAUGHT.”
✍️ Emphasizing the concept of The Lean Startup cycle
Build-code-Measure-data-Learn loop-d-ideas-Build
✍️ To further elaborate the concept of MVP, I have deduced from the presentation that...
Minimum-The most rudimentary bare-bone foundation of the possible solution.
Viable-Sufficient enough for early adaptors/ customers.
Product-Something tangible that customers can touch or feel.
1. The smallest feature set that gives the most
-learning, feedback, failures, and orders
-incremental and iterative way
2. Not a prototype
3. Not a deployable version with the fewest features
4. Enables a test of hypothesis
✍️ Purposes of MVP
1. To enter the market with a small budget.
2. To minimize errors.
3. To create a balance between company offerings and customer needs.
4. Helps you find the right audience.
5. To collect the Maximum Quality Feedback.
✍️ Benefits of MVP
1. Emphasis on Key Development.
2. App Insights and Feedback Collection.
3. Early Testing.
4. Less Costly.
5. Quick Development of Application.
6. Less Costly.
✍️ I also understood about some things to remember when I am going to make my MVP or startup.
1. DON’T BOTHER YOURSELF WITH A BORING WRITTEN BUSINESS PLAN.
2. PLACE YOUR PRIMARY FOCUS ON THE LEARNING, NOT THE PRODUCT.
3. Simplify the product, working features must be directed to early adopters.
4. Simplify the product, working features must be directed to early adopters.
5. Do things that don’t scale.
6. Minimize the features of your MVP at the beginning to save cost and time.
7. Be aware of your biases and Do everything to minimize them.
🎁 The key takeaway here is that a Minimum Viable Product allows organizations to start smaller and iteratively build up to produce a better, more polished product – all in a way that allows them to leverage user intelligence to make the best product decisions.🎁

🚌 MOBILE FOOD BANK BUSINESS MODEL CANVAS
In the past few weeks, the Mobile food bank team has established their Business Model Canvas.
“For the past weeks, the team had gathered data from 46 respondents using the Mobile Food Bank Survey. Most of the respondents are below 21 years old and are prohibited from entering shopping malls or supermarket malls in their respective communities to buy groceries for their food supply. A significant number of respondents were in favor of the idea of the Mobile Food Bank, and they have shared their ideas for us to widen the scope of our service due to the surge in online grocery”

LECTURE SERIES 1
👨👩👦👦THE STARTUP ECOSYSTEM IN THE PHILIPPINES & WHY DO YOU NEED TO START NOW🙌
SPEAKER: SIR CJ BRASILENO (NOVEMBER 12, 2020)
For every entrepreneur, there is always a story about their startup journey.
I have deduced from this first virtual lecture that the Philippines has gradually progress to becoming a technological country fueled with the integration of cross-cultural ideas and innovation. it has been integrated that the startup ecosystem in the Philippines has become resilient in countering our third-world country’s problems. An interesting proof of the resiliency of Filipinos in the startup ecosystem is the ability to become one of the greatest consumers of social media services despite being one of South East Asia’s country to have poor internet speed. Not to mention, the startup entrepreneurs in various stages of both virtual and physical settings always finds innovative and efficient ideas to deliver their services to their consumers. That is why Sir Ceej would emphasize the key points of starting our startup journeys and become a startup founder that works with other startup developers or organizations.
LECTURE SERIES 2
👨🏫INTRODUCTION TO TECHNOLOGY BUSINESS INCUBATION📲
SPEAKERS: MA’AM GEISHA MAE GETUABAN & SIR KIT LAURENCE NACUA (NOVEMBER 19, 2020)
Technology business incubation as a strategy to promote innovation and technopreneurship for the country’s socio-economic development.
In this virtual lecture I was brought to the reality behind becoming an entrepreneur. The journeys of Ma’am Geisha from CDO bites and Sir Kit from Ehatid store, has greatly influenced my perception on the importance of having a business incubator that can help us startup entrepreneurs in delivering and managing our businesses. Not to mention that the benefits of the mechanism provided by TBI’s greatly enhances the infrastructures and business models of startup founders. I can also take away a tip from this lecture that the difficulty of linking the ideas of most TBI personnel and their target population is a common problem. That is why entrepreneurs and startup founders must be competent enough to acquire and accept new ideas to develop their respective businesses. This way, they can upgrade their businesses by allowing entities such as technology business incubators to assist in the growth of their entrepreneurial journey.
Overall, I learned from these 2 lecture series the importance of having an entrepreneurial mindset that is appropriate in the Philippines’ startup ecosystem. Technopreneurship has greatly influence the success of existing businesses. I was also astonished of the concept behind technology business incubation for startup entrepreneurs such as myself. Hence, I am proud to say that this lecture series has been an important milestone in developing my entrepreneurial mindset and hopefully we can integrate this in developing our Mobile Food Bank project.🎉 🎉🎉

💬 TEAM DECISIONS AND OPTIONS:
👨👩👩👩👦
In the past two weeks of the next stage of the planning phase, the entrepreneurial team was challenged with a minor set back that could become a critical decision for the entire scope of their disruptor project proposal; and this challenge includes modifying the Mobile Food Bank into a technology-based and profit-centered product and service. The team has put much thought and considerations regarding the comments made by their subject adviser about focusing the project proposal into a direct, technological, and profit-generating project rather than a public service of philanthropy. In doing so, the team addressed this concern by accentuating the technological and profit-generating features of the Mobile Food Bank.
✍️ Therefore, the team decided the following modifications on the Mobile Food Bank project proposal:
✔ Apply a clever memorable pun related to the function of the ‘Mobile’ definition of the Mobile Food Bank. Thus, ‘mobile’ stands for two definitions which is ‘transport’ and ‘technology’. Overall, this would entail that the Mobile Food Bank is a Food Delivery Service supported by an application for efficient communication and delivery.
✔ Apply a direct profit-generating system through deliveries. The team has decided not to limit their profits from government funds and minor profit-generating side activities by exploring the delivery service sector with an affordable and reasonable cost for the service rendered to their potential clients and benefactors.
✔ Apply the Empathy Map as a guide in creating their new survey questions. It was advised by their subject adviser to create a set of questions that would expound the viewpoint and perceptions of the clients. Therefore, the team modified the close-ended questions into open-ended questions to allow the respondents of the survey to elaborate their thoughts without interruption or limitation.
🙌 Every task was both mentally and physically challenging, considering the amount of dedication and brainstorming included to explore various features in application creation and food delivery. Therefore, the past few weeks have been consisting of project modifications, trial and errors, endless brainstorming, and meticulous surveying for the development of the Mobile Food Bank application and delivery service.
🙋🏻 LESSONS:
This past few weeks has reminded the entrepreneurial team to always come up with a solid back-up plan. This led to the realization that the starting ideas are not always permanent and it is important to always consider modifications early in the stage of development of the project proposal.
In addition, this phase of developing the project proposal has indulged the team members to research new products and services with delegation and creative thinking. This knowledge-seeking phase was necessary not just because it was required for the project but because it also brought the team closer as they continuously learn together and adapt through challenges.
Furthermore, performing the second survey with the guide of the empathy map, has allowed the team to explore the thought processes of their respondents and prospect customers. Hence, the gathered information has motivated the entrepreneurial team to harness this information into combating similar patterns of concerns and doubts among their benefactors with the intention to render their proposed Mobile Food Bank as an effective product and service.

Disruptor Project Proposal: Mobile Food Bank Survey

MOBILE FOOD BANK SURVEY RESULTS
PRESUMED PROBLEM:
Prevalence of Undernutrition in the Filipino Community of Mindanao.
HYPOTHESIS:
Alternative Hypothesis: The Mobile Food Bank project is supported as an alternative solution to mitigate undernutrition in the Filipino community in Mindanao.
Null Hypothesis: The Mobile Food Bank project is not supported as an alternative solution to mitigate undernutrition in Mindanao's Filipino community.
STATISTICAL HYPOTHESIS TESTING:
Statistical Instrument: Online Survey Questionnaire Method (via Google Forms)
Sampling Method: Online Random Sampling
Population Parameter (p):
Female-64.3%
Male-35.7%
Age range: 19-20 years old
RESULTS OF THE HYPOTHESIS TESTING: The individual results and summary of the responses from the preliminary research survey for the Mobile Food Bank is attached in this post. Kindly refer to the infographics for an interactive learning experience!
CONCLUSION:
The entrepreneurial team has decided to reject the null hypothesis based from the sufficient quota of responses from the first phase of the preliminary survey.
TEAM DECISION:
Rejecting the null hypothesis confirms that the group will proceed to improvise a strategic plan based on the recent gathered statistical data. The survey will be open to the available public in the remaining weeks until it reaches the target population of 100 respondents.
The recommendations and feedbacks of these respondents will be thoroughly condensed into an effective plan to improve the network and total impression of the Mobile Food Bank project proposal.
TEAM OPTIONS: In the past few weeks of the planning phase for this project, the team was challenged with a critical decision while brainstorming the scope of our disruptor proposal. The following are the options for considerations mentioned in this phase of the project proposal:
a) Change the project proposal into a profit-centered project.
In general, the entrepreneurial team was considering shifting to a food delivery service, which was a plausible idea. This idea was the biggest test in our dedication and sole purpose as nurses. Since money will not always be a motivating factor for all people, because eventually, the importance of money will be reduced after a certain time and becomes less fulfilling. Moreover, changing our prospect and idea on our project proposal would only hold us back in taking the necessary risks in cultivating our skill to be flexible level-headed nurses. Certainly, this challenge was something we cannot afford to miss!
Therefore, the team decided to proceed with option b.
b) Proceed with the original proposal.
The traditional definition of food banks roots from the work of the charity of people; this definition is far-fetched from the definition of profit. However, the team decided to recall the sole reason why they chose this project, and that is to highlight the selfless act of nurses towards public and community health in the Philippines; because being underpaid is not a justifiable reason to monetize selfless acts of love towards a nurse’s sole purpose to serve. In addition, the team already included counteractive measures on how to earn profit through this project during the preliminary proposal stage (Undergraduate seminars for Food Bank immersion, prospect government funding from DSWD or DOH, Food Bank as a Nutrition and Diet immersion education in the clinical setting, and etc. (kindly refer to Blog 2 (part I)).
Therefore, the team concluded to continue the recent proposal and improvise; the team incorporated their ideas to make the Mobile Food Bank a profitable project fit for the nursing role in Diet and Nutrition Assessment in the Community. This effort will be seen once the quota of the 100 respondents are condensed into the project proposal.
LESSONS:
Throughout this phase of the project proposal, the entrepreneurial team learned that it is meticulous to create a profitable project out of the selfless act of charity into an economic endeavor. The mobile food bank was inspired by the nursing quality to empathize with the underprivileged and care for their well-being without expecting something abundant in return. However, by using an entrepreneurial mindset to provide for the target audience, the group could stay on track and prevail with the original plan. Furthermore, the group recollected their ideas and focused on the satisfaction of non-financial rewards that are fit to develop empathetically competent nurses that they aspire to be in the future.
Lastly, I realized that it has been a continuous shift of phases in creating this project proposal. As a group, we finally began to notice that this project proposal is a nonlinear process fueled by our innovation and grit. Therefore, as aspiring nurses with an entrepreneurial mindset, we must nurture our predisposition to respond positively towards a certain idea, object, or stimuli to overcome these challenges that will mold us into better nurses and entrepreneurs.
THAT IS ALL FOR MY SECOND ENTRY.

Disruptor Project Proposal: Mobile Food Bank

BSN-2A || Nursing Role in Nutrition and Dietetics ||
Blog Entry No. 2 (Part I)
What is a disruptor?
According to The Economist, the idea of disruptive innovation is the most influential business idea of the 21st century. Coined in 1995 by American academic and business consultant Clayton M Christensen, the idea of disruptive innovation has been applied to a diverse set of industries both in modern society and historically.
To be a disrupter is to create a product, service, or way of doing things which displaces the existing market leaders and eventually replaces them at the helm of the sector. Disruptors are generally entrepreneurs, outsiders, and idealists rather than industry insiders or market specialists. Disruptors are often linked to the fast moving technology industry but can be found in almost any area of business
Entrepreneurship in Nursing?
Author: Ma. Carla C. Cachuela || BSN2A || Blog Entry No. 1: Reflection
There is a saying that ‘the world changes when we change our perspective.’ At the beginning of my 2nd year of being a nursing student, I was reluctant to contemplate the necessity of retaking the subject of Entrepreneurship because I could not identify its importance and role in my course. Hence, I saw it as a hindrance that could divide my focus and energy in balancing my academics and personal time. However, recent activities and discussions, such as topics and proposals about disruptors, had guided me to realize that developing an entrepreneurial mindset is crucial to becoming an efficient nurse. Nurses that possess an entrepreneurial mindset have what it takes to be successful in their endeavors because they are smart, they think on their feet, are good listeners, have excellent communication skills, and are versatile and adaptable. These nurses are also known to be hard-working, ethical, and customer-service oriented or patient-centered in their approach to healthcare. Nurses also make good salespeople every time they have to convince a patient to adhere to a regimen or follow up on some medical tests.
Therefore, nurses equipped with an entrepreneurial mindset and a significant body of knowledge of experience are marketable, valuable, and in demand. Prior to this self-realization, my broad dictionary definition of an entrepreneur would be “a person who organizes, manages, and assumes the risks of a business or enterprise, and is willing to risk a loss to make money.” This definition would apply to my previous experience in my Senior High School, wherein we had to take plenty of risks in our starting capital to earn profits. Now, I view entrepreneurship as a way of thinking, reasoning, and acting that is opportunity obsessed, holistic in approach, and leadership balanced. Therefore, entrepreneurship results in the creation, enhancement, realization, and renewal of value, not just for the owners, but for all participants and stakeholders such as myself.
That is my reflection!
I hope everybody enjoyed reading.
