This “reading” thing is fascinating…listening to other people’s perspectives deepens the human experience and could inform my benevolent rule!

No, no, wait a minute. I think he might have a point here.

You're right! A phonemic alphabetic syllabary based on the actual pronunciation of the words in the language used is certainly a much more conducive way of encouraging literacy among the greater population, allowing the common folk to express (in writing) concepts and terms which the written ideograms of the great Middle Kingdom are not well-suited for (given the great differences in our languages)!
Such increased literacy would allow even the common folk of our kingdom to read the great works of the Confucianists, thus promoting loyalty, filial piety, and virtuous behavior!
I'll have my scholars get to work on it right away!
LOL it seems we have met the anti-qin shi huang
I was going to cherrypick some highlights out of king sejong’s wikipedia to make him look good, but it turns out its basically all highlights
created think tanks and research grants for doctors and scholars
created an alphabet for the korean people that is easier to write AND better suited to the language.
disseminated ideas by establishing schools, cultural institutions, innovations the the printing press, and the preservation of rare books, leading to a flourishing of art, culture, and intellectual thought
elevated marginalised classes
created policies for the humane treatment of prisoners
forbade imprisonment of people over 70 or under 15
maternity AND paternity leave
also did i mention he was taking steps to ease his son into politics and ensure a smooth transition of power, while he was still alive to do so?
FAKE NEWS FAKE NEWS FAKE NEWS

whoever choreographed this had the stroke of genius
i have to believe he's never coming back
Day 2: Consort Jing
She doesn't even have a name but she's so awesome I love her.
Bonus: I accidentally skipped pages of my sketchbook before starting this yesterday so I did a couple teeny tiny sketches.
Teeny nerd Jingyu with xiao-Shu and Yanyan running after him + teeny sad Jingyan, because I'm still thinking about him finding out Mei Changsu identity in the book and falling off his horse and sitting in the middle of the street for half an hour
there was a poll going around asking how many languages you can say “hello” in, but I feel like a better indicator of the number of languages you’ve dabbled in is in how many you can say “but.” like the conjunction, cus usually you’d have to get to the level of analyzing or trying to form (very simple) sentences to learn it as a separate word.

for @circumference-pie ( but also for me. Why do I have the attention span of a goldfish and why do I keep forgetting how much I love Taiwanese music scene?)
It's pride month , so of course I'm going have to start the post this MV first from Taiwanese pop queen:
1.Jolin Tsai
2.Hello Nico
3.Waa Wei
4.Accusefive
5.Lücy
6.Wendy Wander
7.Mayday
8.Chih Siou
9.Shi Shi
10.Tizzybac
words I’m scared of using because the concepts they represent seem fuzzy to me: diction, cinematography
I feel like taiwanese writing is different from modern mainland writing and I’m going crazy trying to articulate it
like yeah there’s the differences in vocab preferences but also the structures of sentences? it sounds more elegant to me somehow haha
Website idea: Writers of all nationalities give each other advice on how to name OCs from their native culture/language.
For example, a native English speaker can tell you that "Henry Edward" is kinda weird and evokes Tudor kings, and a native Chinese speaker can tell you that, I don't know, 咪咪 sounds cute but means titties.
No one has ever did Trinidad. But if I wasn't Trinidadian, I would've been confused too🤣🤣. We have names from all types of demographics as we're multiracial and multi religious.
Soooo consider these factors:
Trinidadians are heavy on Religious names.
1)Christians would name their child Josiah, Jonathan, Ezekiel, Joshua, Kriston, David, Edward. Alicia (Not pronounced as Ali-sha but Ali-see-yeah) Chelsea, Christine, Morrisa, George. Heavily religious names are kind of dying out so they would just use English names instead, like Samantha or Sean (without a Religious meaning)
Older Ocs may have Geredette, Sybil, Victoria, Josephine, Henrietta, Elizabeth etc. (Any popular name of person from 1900s London is their name)
Last names are a mixture of Spanish, French, Portuguese, English and Scottish.
Eg~ De Gannes, Augustin, Romero, McDonald, Antoine, Murray, Forde, Paul, Beckles, Clark, Defretas, Garcia.
Normal English sounding names.
2)Hindus would have~ Radha, Kishan, Ravi, Devi, Kamla, Reshma, Mala, Sumintra, Sumitra, Meera. But it gets interesting! If the Oc is an older person, the names would be like: Leelawati, Sahdeo, DeoLal,Ramlal Chadrawati, Samundree, Deodath
They would have Hindi sounding last names. Like Mahadeo, Ramdeo, Persad and Singh.
Honorable name mention, Nisha which is unreligeous and can work.
3)Muslims~ Fatima, Fareeda, Fareed, Hamza, Aliyah (But Aliyah is multi-religious), Halima, Nizam, Sayed.
Old Muslim names~ They tend to put doon or 'un at the end of their names *Shahid becomes Shahidoon*
One name would have different spelling like Lakshmi (Lakshmi, Lakshmie, Laxmi)
(Shawn, Sean, Shaun)
(Fareed, Farid, Fahreed)
4) Trinidadians invented ship names! People name their children with ship names.
If your mom is Keisha and the dad is Mark, this you're Markeisha.
Dad's name is Charles, then you names is Charlene (or Charlotte if the Oc is older)
If Navin, the names would be Naveesha, Naresh or start with another N name.
Jalina (Maybe a mix of Jalani and Lina)
Tyrell and Nisha (Taneesha)
5)Nicknames (my fav)
Sadly it's dying down, but Trinidadians have nicknames that derives from the person's features, their position in the family, their attitude, how they dress (sometimes).
Son and Sunny ~ if the Oc is a first born.
Baby~ most likely the youngest or the tiniest.
Tally~ if the tall person is tall.
Shorts~ if they're short.
Nose~ if they have a prominent nose.
Maggas, Skinny~ A thin person.
Darling ~ maybe stuck with childhood.
Reds ~ a high coloured person with Hispanic ancestry.
You can have up to 3 nicknames. Because your family would give you two, and friends or society would give you another.
That's why we say "Why are you calling me by my Government name?" (The Government name is your correct name you have on your ID. The one you use for work and school)
~~
