3. Heaven Lyrics Analysis

This is where stuff gets too "coincidental" to be a coincidence any more. I'll start from the beginning.

"Heaven", on Exo's EX'ACT album, is a b-side song written by Chanyeol.

As you probably guessed from the title, "Heaven", is a sweet song about a person who the singer feels like is an angel who came from heaven. In the song, the singer describes the angel as a beautiful person who is like a ray of light for them.

The keywords in the song are heaven, angel, sky, light, etc.

Hello, angel

You're like a painting, when I look at the sky, I can only see you.

As you read in the above image, Chanyeol used "sky" as a way to describe Bakehyun.

And apparently, during this time, Chanyeol also posted pictures of the sky on his Instagram.

Now, posting pictures of the sky is really common, especially among idols, but it's still pretty suspicious how he used it to describe Baekhyun too.

By chance, Baekhyun's superpower given by SM for their Kwangya plot line is light. This is a very small detail and is probably a coincidence, but we should take it in account to not miss anything.

Years ago, Bakehyun showed everyone the "angel wings" on his back. He has prominent shoulder blades, and I think he's mentioned before that he is insecure of them.

Here, he bent down to show them to everyone and by coincidence, Chanyeol was the one who revealed them. He knew exactly where to press.

Baekhyun then gets up, and I believe he says "I'm an angel" or something along similar lines.

Bakehyun has some traditionally female traits, so in turn, many Exo members and Exo-Ls describe him as "pretty". While fans do it to praise Baekhyun's visuals, Exo members do it jokingly like an inside joke.

Saying that a girl is pretty jokingly seems really weird. In a world where people assume that they are a couple when a boy and a girl hang out, it seems like you wouldn't want to tell a girl that she's pretty in fear that she might find out about your feelings. However, if you have already confessed and are in a relationship with her, then why would the girl assume you are joking when you call her pretty? That is supposed to be a compliment.

Chanyeol is a celebrity who would face major backlash for using "he" in a song, especially in a country like South Korea. In order to protect his reputation, mentioning anything other than a "she" would be dangerous. Just because Chanyeol mentioned "she" does not confirm that he is straight or was referring to Baekhyun.

Thus, this line could easily mean Baekhyun telling Chanyeol to not jokingly call him pretty.

I just felt like appreciating him...so enjoy!!!

He's just sooooo cute!!! He could literally breathe, and I would still go 'awwww'. You can't blame me, though. Have you ever seen him? He's adorable, bright, cheerful, smart, talented, spectacular, show-stopping...well, you get the idea.

His voice is so...full? That's the best way I can describe it. It just sounds so colourful and stable. I just saw this pre-debut video of him where he covered some GG songs and a few other songs like Boy with Luv by BTS, and he's so versatile! He can pull off any style.

He's a ray of sunshine. His eye-smile is so contagious. He stays pretty quiet when Enhypen do interviewes and stuff as a group, but when it's an individual or unit live, he always keeps the mood up. No matter how many haters or hate comments he gets now and in the future, I hope that he never loses these personality traits because of them. He's such a mood too. He tries to school his expressions and hide his sassy side, but it shows anyway. His eye-rolls are everything, lol. He never fails to provide us with funny and iconic moments.

Not to mention how beautiful he is. He has those fox eyes. They are a really light brown and whenever he's not smiling (which is pretty rare) they shine a lot. It gives him this ethereal look that I really hope he embraces with styling and such in the future. His chubby cheeks are so cute. They are really prominent. He's just so pretty!

A GUIDE TO PURPLE KISS

Here are three of their most amazing songs that summarize their sound and vibe.

Zombie: It's their most popular song for a reason. One of those songs that everyone falls in love with after first listen. I learned the choreography and it's so fun!

The song is such a bop and just makes you want to dance. The concept is cute, funny and quirky. I also like the lyrics. They show that you can be adorable and feminine without "falling into a guy's arms".

Can We Talk Again: God damn does this hit hard. The song is slow and beautiful, but so, so sad. They put so much emotion in their voices. If you close your eyes and listen to every word they draw out, I swear you'll be dead, in a good way. It feels like a knife being excruciatingly twisted in your stomach, but it's addicting.

I have never seen rap be slipped in so smoothly in a Vocal song before. And the instrumental is like descending to heaven. Their most recent Title Track, Sweet Juice, has a similar vibe.

Oh, and it's a pre-debut song.

(Btw, don't be put off by subtitles, lol. Most of their content has subtitles.)

MemeM: A lot of people hate this song. Let me rephrase. Most people hate this song. This song is very experimental. The repetitive lyrics may seem senseless and be a turn-off, but this song hits hard, especially that last chorus.

It may come off as too girl crush to some, but it really shows Purple Kiss's versatility. The Vocals, Rap, Choreography, Visuals are all top-tier.

Most people don't like this song, but I don't want to hide any side of Purple Kiss. In case you don't like it (which is completely fine. You don't need to like every song of a group to stan them), it's their only experimental song, and here is a b-side on the same album that rocks.

Purple Kiss is a self-producing 6-member girl group that debuted in 2021 under RBW Entertainment, Mamamoo's company.

They originally had 7 members, but Jieun left the group in November of 2022 due to health reasons.

Goeun (leader, center) and Swan (maknae) are the group's main vocalists. If you heard MemeM, you could guess from that high note and belting that they are quite talented. One listen and it speaks for itself.

Yuki is the main rapper and the second most credited 4th Gen Female Rapper, after Soyeon of G-IDLE. Unlike many kpop songs where the rap is just thrown in for the sake of it, her raps are delivered very smoothly). Her voice is recognizable and...swaggy? It's suitable for a rapper.

Ireh and Dosie are the main dancers. Ireh has a fun little cover of Maniac

Despite not knowing the choreography or practicing it properly, she matches the vibe of the song and her movement is well-delivered and sharp.

Dosie is a great dancer, you can tell from watching her in Ponzona. Maybe it's because the song requires it, but I'm in love with her footwork in Sweet Juice era.

She does it a little bit, but most of the time she doesn't "stutter" much in getting to her position. It's detailed and comes to her naturally. She has the best expressions. During, before and after the performance. Seriously, you should check out her ending fairy in their Ponzona Debut Stage and her little smile in the beginning of the fan cam I gave.

Chaein is sort of an all-rounder. She holds the lead vocal, dance and rap positions in the group, and I believe she lives up to it. I can't link all of it here, but once you see her with all her skills in action, you'll be convinced too.

That had happened to me before. My friends made "harmless" comments about my weight often, and that got to me. However, that doesn't mean they were bullying me. From their perspective, it was just fun and jokes.

I'm not friends with them anymore. (That wasn't the only reason, though. They were honestly kinda dumb and lacked basic human empathy. They knew that I was insecure of my weight and still made those comments, and that seemed straight up stupid and insensitive to me. I have much better friends now.)

Enhypen was going through the same situation. The things the members said were wrong, and I understand why everyone was so fired up about it. But that doesn't mean that Enhypen were bullying Sunoo. I've watched a lot of Enha's interaction with Sunoo, and they are pretty close. The other members just thought they were jokes. They didn't understand that they were wrong.

Regardless of whether Sunoo felt hurt by those comments or not, it's not right for you to comment about someone's weight like that. They should also have kept in mind that their fans would also be affected by such "jokes". The mentality fans would have here is, "Sunoo isn't even fat. If they think that about him, what will they think about me?"

(Btw, the 'he was laughing too' argument was pretty stupid. I also laughed with my friends when they made those jokes to not seem like I couldn't take a joke. And Sunoo is under even more pressure as being watched by hundreds of people on Vlives and all. What was he supposed to do instead of laughing, break down crying?)

4.The Footsie

This moment has become rather obscure. I only got into Exo and Chanbaek this year. Even after watching dozens of Chanbaek moment compilations and analysis, it took me a while to find out about this.

You can see Baekhyun, um, giving Chanyeol a footsie, basically. And let me just say, this is not fan service.

Don't get me wrong, Chanbaek did and still do fan service. Examples:

(This is a pretty legendary Chanbaek, so maybe I will do a post about this outside of this series, since the rest of the three spots have been reserved.)

Anyway, so, as I was saying, Chanbaek does do fan service. But here's something I use to distinguish between actual moments and fan service: Aside from being so obviously romantic, fan service is always done while laughing, awkwardly or because they do find it hilarious. It's made to be a joke and - as it is meant to be - fun.

Although Baekhyun does have a tiny smile on his face, he nor Chanyeol are giving a single f*ck about the camera. They really seemed to have forgotten about it.

Honestly, when I first found this, I thought it was straight something out of a fan fiction.

Don't you think so? I mean, it very much seemed unreal and fake when I found it, especially since they normally try (and fail) to be subtle in front of cameras.

Fitz is a hopeless romantic. How can he not be when the prospect of loving someone is so vividly beautiful in his mind? 

A smile shimmering dimly in moonlight, plush cheeks against rose petals, eyes sparkling in candlelight. 

He would give them roses for Valentine's, tulips to cheer them up and hundreds of other kinds of flowers on random days to just see them smile. A delicate smile, a toothy grin, deep dimples, a bare twitch, or quiet innocence. He'd imagined them all. He'd make cliché pickup lines, just to see them blush. He'd call them darling, honey, sweetheart, gem, and they would always know it was for them.

Only them.

The idea of someone else loving him unconditionally seemed too far away for Dex. It was too out of this world. It was too far away to reach, stuck in the pages he flipped through and the screen he smiled blindly at. 

He didn't really find anything in himself worth loving. Truthfully, all he saw was baggage. On top of being the son of a bad match, he was quite clingy and sensitive. Why would anyone love him, of all people in this world?

So, he shoved it in the back of his mind. He thought of everything but romance. At first, it was the excuse that he was too young. Then that he needed to pay attention to everything with the Never seen, Black Swan and the Council. And then he needed to establish a career and focus on his technopathy skills.

And then when he was least expecting any of it, he found those glittering aquamarine eyes.

It did not take long for Dex to figure out how hopelessly cliché Fitz was. From the lovesick stares and sighs to the thoughtful presents, it would honestly have been embarrassing for someone to be this sappy. But Dex didn't mind.

Even though he sometimes did cringe at some of them, he never did show his distaste for some of the other boy's pickup lines. He did not have the heart to. Besides, maybe he was enjoying himself too. 

More than embarrassed, he was flustered by Fitz's flirts. His ears would go red, and he would desperately try to hide his face in his hands as the telepath would cackle viciously. 

5. Creep Cover

I don't normally count stuff like glances and eye contact because normally it is total bullshit and nothing out of the ordinary, but this is different.

In this video, we can very obviously see Chanyeol and Baekhyun making lovey-dovey eyes at each other.

Now, that is not it. If it was, then this still would have slipped under my radar. The thing is, that not only Chanyeol, but all the other members are also looking at Baekhyun.

Hmmm, it's almost as if they know that Chanyeol is singing for Baekhyun.

And that isn't it either!

Chanyeol's been pronouncing "you" and "your" very weirdly here. At first, I just thought that maybe he was struggling with the pronunciation. However, this particular moment at 0:26 sealed the deal for me.

If you slow the video down to 0.25, you can clearly hear Chanyeol saying "HIS skin makes me cry" when the lyrics are "Your skin makes me cry".

Isn't that reply a little illogical? Because if everyone followed that, no one would technically initiate a conversation.

It's a little ironic too, because I still achieved my goal - getting a response - and even though the words themselves aren't very detailed, they are still a tell.

It is meant to be a rude retort to unwanted comments, but the asker would still gain a sufficient amount of information. Like your tone, mood, and other factors that can only be known by your voice.
