I’m not discrediting their relationships with the rest of the crew but Zoro and Sanji know things about each other that not even Luffy does. Cough nothing happened cough death pact.

And even though they’re both really good at assessing the situation and navigating difficulties at all times (which is why they’re Luffy’s wings), they still make mistakes. Zoro can be too on edge sometimes and Sanji is too quick to forsake his own life.
