Willing and Able Chapter 2: House Tour

Alex arrives at Meredith and Derek's house and is given a tour of the biggest house he'd ever been inside.

I'd like to start by saying that I'm simply in love with your world-building. And I'm so, so curious to know what the heck you're going to do with Izzie and George. You're definitely the strongest soldier God gave the most intense battles to.

That being said, I need a moment to be a fangirl.

I love Maggie so much. I have a cat named Maggie. So, please understand that the paragraph above was my genuine reaction to reading Maggie being mentioned.

I'm on Team "Compulsory Retirement for Richard" because this man wouldn't cause so much trouble if he were already retired. Nothing against him, but he makes some really crazy decisions and then puts the burden of dealing with the problems he created on others.

Although I don't want either parent as head of the household because neither of them is comfortable with power. Derek gets overwhelmed, Owen becomes a general, Mark turns into the Wolf of Wall Street, Meredith believes rules are suggestions, Amelia doesn't want to be chief, the only one who wanted to was Addison but It would certainly be bad for her, activating the Forbes Montgomery gene of business success and family disaster. So let's just leave Richard alone in his position.

And now let's move on to the star of the show:

Please give me the address of where he was staying. I suspect there's going to be an accidental gas leak that will cause an explosion and destroy the place. The fact that I was passing by there with a pickaxe and a lighter is purely coincidental.

He's behaving so well and nobody gives our one-balled boy the credit he deserves.(He was the one who decided to lie about only having one ball, not me.) Seriously, he's behaving so well considering the situation that he deserves an award. And in his defense, going to Dream House really does give you that feeling of being taken to a second location.

If I were him, I'd be terrified. Night, in the middle of the forest, with nowhere to run, surrounded by strangers, with the history he has...And if something happened, who would they believe? The runway or the rich, successful, and benevolent couple who took in the stray? We know Alex is safe, but there was no way for him to know. So I repeat: he behaved very well and deserved a reward.

That scene in Coraline where her father tells her to count how many doors and windows are in the house, but it's actually Alex trying to map the Dream House. When Meredith mentioned the stairs, I admit I was like, "Who needs more than one pair of stairs?", then I remembered that I live on a hill and my house is basically a collection of stairs leading up to different rooms.

While it's true that Derek would be very worried about anyone getting hurt in his house, it's still funny to think of him staring at Owen's head behind a boo boo. Which leads me to the fact that Alex is already very much resigned, obeying Derek, and seeking support from Meredith. He has his eye on the prize and won't let anyone steal it from him.

Alex has never done anything wrong, not even for a single day, and I will fight anyone who presents real proof to the contrary.

They sent him there with only a juice box, a packet of peanuts, and a note that said "we won't miss you." Poor boy. Urgent shopping for him, he's in such a precarious situation that even the moths in his clothes have holes in them. He doesn't know what it means to live, he only knows how to survive and do what's necessary to do so. Making him even more vulnerable.

I can't wait to see how this unfolds.

Yes! I love Maggie, and like with Lexie still being alive in this verse I wanted Meredith to have her sisters (because I mayyyyy have also kept Ellis alive in this verse....)

Literally I'm like Richard retire, but also I don't want any of the others to do the job as they'd suck at it so I'm like ugh fine Richard you do it. Literally the reasons you listed for why none of the rest of them should do it are so real!

He's truly on his best behaviour, which we all know is impossibly hard for him.... and will not last long, he can't help it he's just a babbbbbby....

Omg yes like Alex definitely maps it like in Coraline! Also I just know he gets scared of that movie, while Jo probably adores it April likes it, and Jackson is also scared of it but mostly is pointing out how he'd have beaten it.

I was like mentally building the house and was like eh let's give them more stairs for Alex to sneak around, but also the only reason I ever think about houses having two staircases is because of the show 8 Simple rules which I loved when I was a kid.

Derek is like I'm checking everyone out for concussions as I refuse to have to be short staffed at work or to have no one to bitch about people to other than Bailey so I'm checking every injury.... but also would be like 'here's a cold beer to hold against your head' to Mark and Owen because Mark and Owen are his brothers fr.

I will simply destroy any evidence of Alex ever doing anything wrong which there is technically a lot of evidence but like not for long y'know.

They're really going to have to enforce a shopping trip, and for it not to be at a thrift store where Alex gets clothes which are sensory nightmares for him and also he mostly stole from them because they're getting too expensive for our boy. Thank god it'll be his birthday fairly soon too.

Today all I can think about is "What if we torture Derek?"

So I bring you this: Derek, Alex, and Meredith are on a road, but their car breaks down. Poor Derek is trying to figure out what's wrong with the car, but Alex won't stop talking in his ear. Meredith is saying, "Well, as long as he doesn't jump in the middle of the road, if talking makes him focus on staying still, that's fine by me."

Omg, like they're already far from home and have been driving for hours, and they called for help but it's going to take a while. Alex is at first protesting about getting out of the car, but Derek points out it's what you're meant to do, which makes Alex excited that maybe it'll blow up - and is obviously very disappointed when they reassure him that it won't.

Meredith is trying to call local garages but it's a sunday so there's even less open while trying to stop Alex from wandering off because 'Cars can still hit you just because we're in another state' and 'no jumping into the middle of the road in hopes a random car will contain a mechanic is not the plan we're going for'.

Derek once did a road trip with his friends in college so has fixed engines a few times, so he decides to take a look under the hood, which immediately gets Alex's interest, and he's initially happy that Alex is distracted and wanting to help, Derek answers his questions about what things do, but the longer he can't figure out what's wrong and the more Alex starts trying to touch the engine which 'is hot Alexander, I am not treating you for burns on a dirt road' and the more Alex starts asking constant questions the more Derek is having to count to ten and as Meredith says it is better than him trying to jump into the road, he's staying still and by Derek's side, and he's not doing anything dumb

Derek having to say no so many times while Alex tries to touch the mechanical parts of the car with his candy-sticking fingers.

The cacophony of the cafeteria was enough to hide Meredith's grumbling from prying ears, but not from Cristina Yang. Seeing her friend practically butchering the salad bowl, she sat down expecting the worst.

"What did Derek do this time? Did he fill the entire bathroom shelf with his hair products? I've told you, never trust a guy who has a more structured hair care routine than you."

Meredith shook her head, stabbing the lettuce.

"No, Derek didn't do anything this time. It's Robbins, she kidnapped my son."

"Doctor Smiles on Wheels kidnapped Alex? I'll need more context to help you plan the rescue."

Cristina was confused but not at all alarmed, knowing that the situation was probably less bad than Meredith tended to make it seem.

"Alex chose to go to Peds. Peds. A copy of general surgery in glitter and plush. Arizona definitely offered him something, coffee, an energy drink, I don't know. But when I find out, I'm going-."

"Wait, are you sulking here because your son, who took a long time and still hasn't fully accepted that he's a Little, decided to work in the area where he'd have the most contact with Littles? Meredith, are you Are you really angry that he chose that area, or are you jealous that Robbins will be spending every day with him and you won't?"

"That's ridiculous, I'm not jealous."

Because, of course, Meredith Grey never got jealous, as we know very well...

Omg yes like Meredith refuses to admit that she gets jealous about anything, but she gets jealous when its someone who’s not Derek who Alex is deciding is the best person alive, like shes fine sharing with Derek thats part of their marriage, but when Alex decides that Robbins is awesome?!?!? Nah thats her baby.

Meredith goes up to whoever the head of gen surgery is and is like “hey so anytime Robbins needs a consult call me”

“What no we just call whoevers available”

“Well im telling you ill always be available”

Then when she does get sent for a consult its just Robbins and no alex and shes like “er…. Wheres Karev?”

“Huh?”

“My son, robbins, where is my son?”

“Oh well its his naptime so i sent him there”

Meredith scoffs, “and he just went?”

“Yeah? Hes a doctor he understands that he needs naps, in fact hes been a really good influence on little patients here, he pointed out that he has to nap too, its great, why?”

“Nothing… he naps easily for derek and i too, he never complains, its fine.”

“Are you sure…?”

“Im fine doctor robbins, wheres your patient?”

And every time alex excitedly talks about robbins and her amazing procedures which are groundbreaking and all the cases he gets to help her on meredith is like trying so hard not to be jealous but also complains yo cristina every time, but its not like she wants to let out to alex because she knows he’ll take it as her not wanting to hear about the cases he works when she really does

They were grumpy and wanted to spend more time with their children, but unfortunately, they have to be healthy parents who give them autonomy and the right to choose.

They also fond out that robbins keeps stickers and lollipops and are like ’this is starting to make sense’

LET'S TALK ABOUT HAPPY THINGS

Yeah Jo finds it very hard to be able to settle into just one, its the first time that she has so many people believing in her too, and like with that she feels like she cant settle on one as she'd be letting down the people she connected with and who believed in her like truly so bittersweet, and like you said she had the kind of childhood which would definitely add to all that
