I have never felt as human as you have made me feel...
I'm gonna write a small thing about how I felt making this.
I grew up very dehumanized by the people around me, whether friends, family or strangers. I don't know if it was because I'm autistic or what, but I was always treated like an animal.
Simon has been an exploration of that feeling, the feeling of being treated like an animal sent to slaughter.
Simon speaks to the dog in me that felt conditional love. There is something so alluring yet terrifying about the feeling of unconditional love. It feels unreal, it feels wrong. But sometimes closing your eyes and putting out a hand is the first step.
Sorry to get so personal but I felt like it was kinda important for the way I write Simon to be.

ok i know it's not Halloween or even close to it rn but a friend started talking about Corpse Bride earlier and it reminded me of a revalation i will never be able to disconnect.
Dolley Madison’s niece’s name was Anna Payne and yes that’s true Buchanan considered marrying her. If you look up pictures of Dolley on google, there’ll be one of her with a young lady behind her, that’s Anna Payne btw.
To be fair, it wasn’t uncommon for older men to marry younger women at the time either. Girls were considered women in their teens and it was the standard female marrying age, sadly. This was during the time when he was Secretary of State, so he was in his 50s, but of course that’s not much better.
It was also conveniently around the time he was running for president. She was interested in him, and he indulged her because he enjoyed the social aspect of it, but never followed through. This also basically sums up nearly every one of Buchanan’s “flirtations.”
(There was also another 18 year old girl, Joanna Rucker, who really was smitten with Buchanan. The man did basically the same thing and quietly let her go. He liked when women liked him, clearly because of how egotistical he was and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a bit of overcompensation on his part, but never had any serious interest)
